'Just explaining it probably wouldn't be clear enough,' she thought. 'He'd just have to come back and ask a few more times.'
Shen Baoying said decisively, "How about this? I'll give it a try too. You can follow along with me."
Kilton nodded eagerly. "Thank you, thank you!"
Shen Baoying took him to the insect room to pick out some of the larger sandworms.
After gutting the sandworms, she scrubbed the casings repeatedly with starch until they turned white. Only then did Shen Baoying say to Kilton, "See? This is what it looks like when they're properly cleaned."
"Oh, I see!"
Shen Baoying then put them in a marinade of white liquor and ginger. "They need to soak for a bit to get rid of the gamey smell," she told Kilton. "While we wait, we can start preparing the filling."
