While everyone else was busy repairing houses, Jiang Si and Shen Baoying were testing the nearby land, experimenting with tree branches and soil, hoping they might get lucky and grow some edible plants.
Shen Baoying and Jiang Si had already tried many times, but they had mostly gotten nothing but inedible weeds.
The only tree they had managed to revive was the same type of willow from yesterday—the one that attracted bugs.
Shen Baoying was starting to feel drained. She panted, "The willow is actually fine. We can weave baskets with it and strip the bark to make paper. It's a pretty useful plant, all things considered."
Jiang Si nodded. "It's definitely the most useful plant we have right now."
But everyone was hoping for an edible staple crop.
If they couldn't grow crops and could only eat fish, it wasn't that they couldn't survive. It just felt like something was missing.
