"Your personal physical mastery still has room to catch up to the sheer ambition of the routine," Jing Yuan pointed out gently. "A few of the acrobatics lacked razor-sharp precision, though you covered those gaps cleverly using Gardevoir's subtle telekinetic support."
"While it was a neat trick to smooth over the seams, a trained eye can always spot the difference."
"Of course, expecting absolute perfection in such demanding movements from someone who isn't a lifelong acrobat is asking a great deal," the General smiled warmly. "What you delivered today was already deeply impressive."
Jing Yuan raised his paddle: 97 points.
Julian picked up his microphone next.
"Outstanding work, Guinaifen. You are the first performer today who didn't let the weight of her narrative overshadow the presence of her Pokémon," Julian noted with genuine approval.
"From Ludicolo switching effortlessly between rhythm-keeping and dance steps, to Blaziken and Gardevoir commanding their respective highlights, every partner found their place and radiated their own charm."
"The second half, in particular, was brilliant. The flames leaping in time with the drums, woven seamlessly with fairy dust and subtle grass embers, released the emotional tension all at once."
"Your warmth, athleticism, poise, and infectious optimism came together in absolute harmony. Truly well done."
Julian held up his score: 97 points.
"Incredible!" Owlbert announced with a flourish of his wings. "With a stellar average of 97.8 points, Miss Guinaifen surges into first place!"
Hearing that she was just 2.2 points shy of a perfect hundred, Guinaifen bowed deeply, her hands trembling as tears pricked at the corners of her eyes.
The five judges smiled warmly in response.
Guinaifen's growth between the qualifiers and the Grand Celebration was plain to see. She had poured countless hours of sweat and tears into this routine, and having that hard work recognized before the entire galaxy was an overwhelming feeling.
Blinking back her tears and dabbing at her flushed cheeks, Guinaifen gave one last polite bow before hurrying off the platform.
"Wahhh! Sushang, I did it!"
The moment Guinaifen stepped into the green room, Sushang rushed over with open arms. Guinaifen lost all composure, crashing into her best friend and sobbing into her shoulder.
Sushang held her tightly, patting her back with a gentle laugh. "I know, I know! You were incredible out there, Guinaifen!"
Having spent the past few weeks training alongside her, Sushang knew better than anyone how much strain Guinaifen had endured to perfect those routines.
After letting out all the built-up tension, Guinaifen slowly wiped her nose, giving a slightly hoarse, sheepish giggle.
"Haha, now that you've let it out, take a breather," Sushang teased gently. "The showcase was just the start. The real battles are right around the corner."
The reminder snapped Guinaifen's focus back into gear.
"Ladies, pray permit me to present these blossoms to Miss Guinaifen in honor of her magnificent display," a melodic, dramatic voice chimed in.
Argenti stepped forward, holding out a radiant bouquet of crimson roses and hibiscus blooms.
Both Sushang and Guinaifen were familiar with the knight. When they first crossed paths, his flowing red hair and delicate features had led them to mistake him for a swordswoman, but once they saw him on the tournament floor, all awkwardness vanished.
His effortless nobility and radiant presence made him an absolute natural on the Contest stage, earning him a reputation as one of the top favorites to take the entire tournament.
Guinaifen, still slightly dazed from her crying fit, instinctively accepted the flowers.
"Forgive my delayed approach," Argenti continued smoothly, his voice rich and sincere. "I believed Miss Guinaifen required a moment to honor her own spirit in private, and it would have been improper of me to intrude upon such raw emotion."
Without pausing for a reply, the knight pressed a hand to his breastplate.
"Your performance was a masterpiece painted with the ink of perseverance and the sweat of devotion. Every movement shone with the brilliant light of unyielding effort."
"It stirs the very depths of my heart! Let us praise the sacred guidance of Idrila, for it is through Her grace that I was permitted to behold such Pure Beauty!"
"I eagerly await our clash in the upcoming matches," Argenti finished, offering an immaculate knightly bow before turning on his heel and walking away.
Guinaifen and Sushang stood frozen, staring at his retreating back with wide eyes.
"He was just complimenting my routine, right?" Guinaifen blinked.
"I think so... but did he just issue a duel challenge at the end?" Sushang scratched her cheek.
"Pretty sure he did," Guinaifen muttered.
"Then you better not lose focus during the bracket matches! You can't let him outshine you!"
"Don't worry, I've got this!"
While the girls gathered their thoughts backstage, the next performance was already underway.
Taking the stage was Pasha, the Dreamweaver from Penacony.
For the Grand Celebration, she doubled down on her signature underworld theme, once again exploring the journey of the soul alongside Misdreavus, Shuppet, and Gengar.
This time, however, all three Ghost-type partners fought on her side, defying a towering guardian deity crafted from dream matter.
Unlike her qualifier story of seeking a lost lover, this piece told the tale of a daughter escorting her mother's departed soul, guiding her toward the sacred river of reincarnation after she had been cast adrift.
The somber staging, eerie lighting, and haunting melody were top-notch. Her three partners used their natural abilities to bend shadows and shape fog, creating an otherworldly, immersive atmosphere.
In the emotional climax, Pasha held her mother's glowing spirit by the hand, climbing a towering set of celestial stairs. The mother and daughter radiated a soft, pure light, while waves of dark phantoms surged from the abyss to consume them.
Working in tight coordination, the three Ghost-type Pokémon unleashed waves of spiritual energy to keep the shadows at bay.
The higher Pasha climbed, the heavier the invisible pressure grew. As a mortal trespassing in the realm of the dead, her very life force began reacting with the ground, causing radiant, ethereal blossoms to bloom with every step she took, leaving a trail of quiet farewells behind her.
Drawing on her partners' support and her own resolve, she reached the summit, safely delivering her mother's spirit into the light of reincarnation.
The performance earned an impressive average of 94.2 points.
Pasha looked momentarily disappointed with the score, but quickly smoothed her expression into a peaceful, satisfied smile. Having watched Asta and Guinaifen earlier, she knew the competition at this level was fiercely contested.
"We have felt the haunting warmth of the underworld," Owlbert's voice echoed through the stadium, "and now it is time to embrace the crystalline wonder of pure ice! Please welcome our next contestant—Miss March 7th!"
