Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: A New Town and Hero Meeting

Upon returning to Exium, it was clear that we had outgrown our small home. Between our growing group and the increasing complexity of our lives, the once-cozy quarters now felt cramped and inadequate. It was time for a change—something bigger, something better. The idea of relocating came up naturally, and after some thought, our sights turned southward, toward the prosperous Larkingdon Kingdom and its capital city, Lakeway.

"If we're going to upgrade, we might as well go somewhere new," I suggested casually, glancing at the girls to gauge their reactions.

They all nodded, each face lighting up with anticipation.

"Lakeway has everything we could need," Shina added, unrolling a map across the table. "It's the largest city in the kingdom, filled with adventurers, scholars, merchants—you name it."

"Alright, then. Lakeway it is," I confirmed, feeling a spark of excitement in my chest.

We packed up our belongings quickly, securing everything we needed, and boarded Kyoko for the journey south. The wind was brisk, the skies were clear, and the flight took several hours. As we neared our destination, the first sight of Lakeway stole our breath—the city sprawled outward in a grand crescent around a shining lake, crowned by an enormous castle whose towers kissed the clouds.

We landed just outside the city gates, where an enormous crowd had gathered around a luxurious black-and-gold carriage. Curious, I approached a tall, bearded man standing nearby.

"What's going on here?" I asked.

"You must be new," he said with a grin. "That's the hero's arrival. The Suigin."

He explained that forty years ago, a dark magician nearly razed the city to the ground with demonic forces. At the brink of destruction, a lone warrior—Suigin—rose up and battled the magician to a standstill, ultimately sealing him within a void outside space and time. His return was nothing short of legendary.

Just then, the carriage door opened. Three figures stepped out.

First came a dignified man with black and white hair tied back in a loose ponytail—his posture spoke of experience and command. Next was a tall, graceful woman with flowing blue hair, her aura serene yet commanding. Finally, a girl, no older than sixteen, descended from the carriage. She wore a mask covering the lower half of her face, but her long pink hair flowed down her back, and her eyes—pale, almost glowing—met mine across the square.

Her stare lingered. I frowned slightly and motioned for the others to move on. Something about her felt... uncanny. Watchful. Intent.

Lakeway itself was alive with color and movement. Shops lined the streets, peddling everything from enchanted weaponry to magical pastries. Musicians played on street corners, and laughter echoed from cafes and inns. It was a city pulsing with life, ambition, and opportunity.

We wasted no time and found a real estate shop called Larkingdon Estates. The agent, a sharply dressed man with a waxed mustache and a magical clipboard, greeted us warmly.

"Looking for a new home? Adventurers, perhaps?" he asked with a knowing smile.

"We need space. Privacy. And peace," I said.

"I have just the place," he said, flipping through his clipboard. "A manor on the outskirts of the city—secluded, serene, and spacious. Ideal for individuals of your... caliber."

He wasn't wrong.

When we arrived to inspect it, the manor sat nestled among towering trees and gentle hills. A cobblestone path led to a grand entrance flanked by lion-headed sconces, and a garden—half-wild, half-tended—stretched into the distance behind it. The air was quiet, the city's noise just a whisper in the background.

"This is it," I said, my voice low.

The girls agreed instantly. After finalizing the deal with the agent, we moved in by nightfall. Furniture arrived by magic courier, and we began settling in like it had always been ours.

Later that evening, I stood on the manor's balcony, gazing at the stars that now felt unfamiliar, yet somehow reassuring. The wind was cool, brushing through my hair. I let out a breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding.

This wasn't just a change of scenery. It felt like a new arc. A new chapter. The city of Lakeway had its secrets, and we had our share of mysteries to solve, challenges to face, and stories yet to unfold.

From inside, I could hear the girls laughing, already planning tomorrow's city tour. I smiled softly, hand resting on the hilt of my blade.

"We've come a long way," I whispered to myself, the constellations above shimmering in silence. "And we've got so much further to go."

I turned and stepped back into the manor—into our new beginning.
