"I saw something," I said quietly.
Tamika didn't move.
"What did you see?" she asked.
Her voice was calm.
Too calm.
"I don't know," I admitted. "It was just… flashes."
"Of what?"
"You," I said.
That made her freeze.
"In the rain," I continued slowly. "Laughing. Standing right there like you've done it before."
Her eyes filled with something I couldn't name.
Hope.
Fear.
Maybe both.
"That's not possible," I added quickly. "I don't remember that happening."
She stepped closer.
Carefully.
Like I might disappear.
"You said something," I continued, frowning. "Or maybe I did… I can't tell."
"What was it?" she whispered.
I hesitated.
Then—
"Some moments are worth getting soaked for."
Silence.
Heavy.
Real.
And then—
A tear slipped down her cheek.
"You remember," she said.
I shook my head. "No, I don't. I just—said it."
"You said that to me," she whispered. "Before."
Before.
That word again.
Always before.
"What happened?" I asked. "Why don't I remember you?"
She looked at me.
Really looked at me.
And for the first time—
She didn't smile.
"Because," she said softly, "you weren't supposed to forget."
My chest tightened.
"Then why did I?"
She didn't answer.
And somehow—
That silence told me everything was about to get worse.
