Chapter 1 — The Man Who Refused to Die

Many years later, when Admiral Mo Luo stood alone at the execution platform, he still couldn't help thinking about that noon from his youth—when he starved to death at sea.

Memories flashed through his mind like a spinning lantern.

A sharp headache struck.

Mo Luo suddenly opened his eyes. His thoughts were still stuck in the moment when he had been reading comics.

He had transmigrated.

What made it even more ridiculous was how it happened. While he was reading comics in a shop on the first floor, two people next to him started arguing. In the chaos, they accidentally pushed him out the door. He stepped on a banana peel, slipped—and at that exact moment, a large truck happened to pass by.

Just like that, through a series of absurd coincidences, Mo Luo ended up here.

"Alive!"

"Vice Admiral Garp, this homeless guy isn't dead."

The adjutant behind him spoke with clear surprise.

"Really? Let him eat and then send him off. This old man still needs to patrol the East Blue."

Garp turned around and glanced at the dazed Mo Luo.

Mo Luo swallowed and looked around.

He was clearly inside a ship's cabin. At the same time, fragments of the body's original memories slowly surfaced in his mind.

The previous owner of this body had been wandering for a long time, starving for days. Eventually he drifted to a deserted island. There, he found a strange fruit washed up on the shore.

But before he could even eat it—

He starved to death.

And the moment Mo Luo woke up, the soul inside the body had changed.

Starved to death?

Going to sea was truly dangerous. Koby met Alvida. Luffy started his journey inside a barrel. Ace nearly starved before finding the Flame-Flame Fruit.

And this body?

It starved to death right after finding something edible!

Grrrr~

The loud rumble from his stomach made Mo Luo unable to hold back any longer. He grabbed the strange fruit in his arms and bit into it.

He didn't care what it was—Devil Fruit or some random fruit.

Right now, survival came first.

"Really delicious!"

Mo Luo had been starving for so long that he didn't find the fruit disgusting at all. In fact, it even tasted a little sweet.

"It's the first time I've heard someone say a Devil Fruit tastes good."

The adjutant pushed up his glasses in disbelief. Meanwhile, the marine responsible for meals hurried over with a bowl of seafood fried rice.

By then, Mo Luo had already finished the entire Devil Fruit.

And his stomach was still growling.

The moment he saw the fried rice, he immediately began devouring it.

"Thank you!"

Before anyone could say anything, he finished a large plate of fried rice, a big piece of barbecue, and a large glass of iced lemonade.

Only then did Mo Luo finally feel like he was alive again.

If he ever had another choice in life, he swore he would cherish every grain of rice—and he would definitely pick a safer place when reading comics.

"Hah…"

After the meal, Mo Luo nodded with satisfaction.

More memories from the original Mo Luo slowly appeared in his mind.

It was only the most basic memory inheritance.

His family had once ruled a small and weak kingdom in the East Blue. However, they couldn't afford the Heavenly Tribute demanded by the Celestial Dragons. Without paying it, they lost the protection of the World Government.

Soon after, pirates took advantage of the situation. The kingdom's army collapsed.

And the prince who was meant to inherit the throne—

Ended up wandering the seas alone.

Until he eventually starved to death.

"Kid, that's your boat over there. Now that you're full, get out of here. Don't freeload on my ship!"

Garp stood by the deck railing, picking his nose while speaking lazily.

"Alright, thank you, old man. I, Mo Luo, always repay kindness. One day I'll save your grandson's life!"

Mo Luo thought to himself: now that he had transmigrated—and even eaten what looked like a Devil Fruit—it would be impossible for him to live as an ordinary person.

In this life, he had to make a name for himself!

Maybe even dominate the New World!

"Watch me jump!"

Mo Luo stepped onto the railing and leaped.

Splash!

Glug glug glug!

Only then did he remember that he had barely regained any strength after eating. His legs went weak, and he immediately sank.

Moments later, a trail of bubbles floated elegantly from the bottom of the sea.

When he woke up again—

Mo Luo looked awkwardly at the adjutant beside him.

"Alive!"

"Vice Admiral Garp, this landlubber who can't swim isn't dead!"

The exact same line again.

Mo Luo forced an awkward smile.

He glanced at Garp standing by the door.

Still picking his nose.

"He ate a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit. It's said to have endless vitality. People even call it the phoenix of the Paramecia class."

After saying that, Garp waved his hand.

Two somewhat goofy-looking boys immediately walked into the room.

One had pink hair and wore glasses.

The other had a terrible haircut and looked arrogant.

Mo Luo recognized them instantly.

Koby and Helmeppo.

"Hello! We joined the ship while you were unconscious!"

"My name is Koby, and his name is Helmeppo."

The two stood beside him awkwardly.

Mo Luo hesitated before asking,

"My… original boat?"

"It broke apart and sank."

The adjutant replied helplessly.

"I see."

Mo Luo nodded.

It seemed his pirate career—before it even began—had already ended.

He silently took a deep breath, then grabbed another plate of hot seafood fried rice.

"Mo Luo. A sailor who came back from the dead."

Honestly, not bad.

The key point was having three meals a day and not starving.

What Pirate King?

No.

Admiral—that was the goal!

After eating and drinking his fill, Mo Luo slept for another half day before waking up again.

This time, instead of jumping into the sea like before, he got out of bed and looked at a mirror fixed to the wooden wall.

The reflection showed messy black hair, dark eyes, and a thin, pale face. You could still see traces of what had once been a handsome appearance—but now he looked more like a starving wanderer.

"With a body like this, how am I supposed to become strong?"

"I might be the weakest transmigrator in history."

Mo Luo remembered what Garp had said earlier.

A Paramecia fruit.

Endless vitality.

The strength of a Devil Fruit depended entirely on how well the user developed it.

Endless vitality?

What exactly did that mean?

Mo Luo stared at his reflection.

Then he gritted his teeth, clenched his fist—

And punched himself in the face.

Boom!

It hurt.

But it was definitely real.

However, what followed wasn't weakness.

Instead, a strange energy surged through his body.

He was hurt—but before his face could even turn red, the injury had already healed.

Slowly, color returned to the boy's pale cheeks.

Take damage.

Gain energy in return.

Boom!

Boom!

Mo Luo punched himself two more times.

The vitality on his face grew stronger. Even his weak body seemed to regain some strength.

"Not only do I have endless vitality… I can also absorb the energy from attacks!"

"Anything that kills me will bring me back to life!"

"And anything that doesn't kill me will make me stronger!"

"This makes no sense… but that's the magic of Devil Fruits!"

Laughing excitedly, Mo Luo rushed out of the cabin.

Looking up at the sky, he shouted loudly,

"I'm invincible! I'm invincible!"

BAM!

A fist slammed onto his head.

The pain almost brought tears to his eyes.

But the next moment, the large bump on his head disappeared, transforming into energy within his body.

He even felt lighter while walking.

"Idiot. Don't make so much noise. I'm trying to enjoy my afternoon tea."

Garp glanced at the disappearing bump and complained lazily.

"Old man, if I keep shouting, will you punch me a few more times?"

"What old man? That's Vice Admiral Garp! Show some respect, brat!"

BAM!

Another punch landed.

But Mo Luo only felt his body improving. Even his thin and pale figure looked slightly healthier.

Looking out at the sea again, he felt like he could try everything all over again.

He placed his hands on his hips and took a deep breath of fresh sea air.

"Move aside. You're blocking the old man's sunlight."

Another punch.

Yet Mo Luo felt strangely refreshed while flying through the air.

Nice.

This ship was perfect.

He swore that from now on—
