Chapter 39 - Max’s First Earning

Max was utterly surprised. His impression of Rhayne decreased a lot after knowing her main intention.

He immediately replied, "I'm sorry, the archer in my team has already been chosen, picked by Sir Sylwen himself."

However, Rhayne instantly replied, "10,000 US Dollars."

Max was dumbfounded. His impression of her decreased even more.

You think you can buy me with money, huh?

He responded, "Deal."

Max grinned.

Of course, he could be bought with money. There was no way he'd let go of 10,000 US Dollars free money from someone who simply just wanted to join his party.

It was only Rhayne, anyway. There was only one person he had to be consciously wary against and it wasn't that difficult for Max.

If there would be conflict that occurs during the quest, well, he could deal with it immediately. Even if Rhayne was a ranker in the past with a legacy class, Max was confident he could defeat her in his new life.

It was simply too difficult to let go of 10,000 US Dollars.

He closed the inbox while Rhayne was spamming him with messages.

After thinking about it, he sighed.

Someone knows how to control me now, huh? Well, she's not affiliated with the Lewis Guild as far as I remember and her guild was often in conflict with them, so I can let this slide.

The money is just too tempting, damn it!

Frustrated, Max returned his focus to the Controlled Mana Circle Room to increase his active skills' proficiency.

However, only then, he recalled that he had a transaction to settle with Rhayne and the other player Max could barely remember.

He opened his inbox again and, as expected, Rhayne kept telling him about the transaction, saying she wanted to buy Common ranks equipment immediately.

Max chuckled and immediately requested a trade with her. He then gave 40 silver coins and completed the trade.

Afterwards, Max confirmed the add friend of Lewis Irving, initiated and completed a trade, and ignored his further message as well as unfriending him.

Max didn't like the idea that his first name carried the last name of the person he deeply hated.

As much as how polite Lewis appeared and seemed to be a genuine person, the name has already been engraved as someone he loathed deeply.

Hence, Max was not apologetic at all that he had instantly cut off connections with him.

Once Max was finished, he was waiting for the confirmation of Aethernova until he finally received a message from them.

[We have received a confirmation from the buyer. We have already sent the money straight to your account. As promised, we have deducted a 5% commission fee. It's a pleasure to do business with you, Max. We anticipate more of your items to be auctioned.]

Ma grinned. He wasn't aware of the final sales of his auction, but it should already be at 70,000 US Dollars.

As for the tax… he had to consult a profession later on, to prevent going to jail.

Max would happily comply.

Max glanced at the wall of the Mana Controlled Circle Room and felt like not grinding his proficiency level on his active skills at all.

It was quite difficult, after all.

After knowing he finally earned a huge sum of cash, would he be able to sit still and not think about how to spend it?

Max sighed and finally logged out of the game.

It was still 12 noon and Sarah was probably still eating lunch.

Max opened his phone and saw a message notification where he received the money.

It was already converted into CAD.

His eyes widened.

A hundred thousand? Holy shit!

Max's total debt to the loan shark was 177,000 CAD. Due to the monthly loan increase, he would have to pay for it in total to clear the debt, or continue to pay monthly until he died.

That was how loan sharks exploited the needy.

Of course, I won't pay for it. I'll save more money first until we can leave this hellish place out of their sight.

Before Max decided to buy the NovaPro Immersion Pod, he researched first about what to do after earning such a huge sum of money.

He didn't want to be penalized after hiding his income from the Canada Revenue Agency.

However, he discovered that the process was somewhat complex.

Right. Auntie Sarah is more knowledgeable about this. She pays taxes, as well. I must tell her about this.

Max didn't plan on hiding what he earned from his little brother and Auntie Sarah. He wouldn't even mind revealing to them that he was the most famous person on the internet at the moment.

After all, Auntie Sarah and Enzo barely had time on social media. Auntie Sarah was not only busy in her business in the apartment, she also managed a store a few blocks away.

Enzo, on the other hand, was a study maniac. Max wasn't even surprised that he didn't have a friend.

Max chuckled after recalling the introvert Enzo as he left the apartment room and went to Auntie Sara's room.

Auntie Sarah was dumbfounded when Max showed her what he earned from the game.

It was twice what she earned from her apartment and stores combined monthly.

She gazed at Max, not knowing what to say.

Her mind couldn't really process what happened.

In the first place, how could she process a sudden revelation from Max, saying, "Auntie, I've finally earned money from the game," and then show her a hundred thousand CAD casually?

She thought it would just be less than a thousand CAD.

However, a hundred times at that?

She couldn't possibly just reply casually, like, "Oh, that's good. A hundred thousand, huh? That's not bad," right?

Max, on the other hand, only chuckled from her response.

He said, "This is true, Auntie Sarah. If you don't believe me, you can search it up on the internet. I've suddenly become famous, you know."

Auntie Sarah was still frozen.

In the end, she sighed. "So, why are you showing me this? You want to report this to CRA, right?"

Max nodded. "I don't want to get penalized, so… Please help me, Auntie Sarah."

Sarah nodded.

However, it took her a while to respond as she was still in a state of shock.
