Episode 19: One Year Later
A year after the counter disappeared, Seo‑ah sat on the balcony of her new apartment—a place with a view of the Han River, a small garden, and enough room for her sister to stay whenever she wanted.
The welfare program she had designed was now company‑wide, with a dedicated team and a budget that actually made a difference. Overtime had decreased by 30%. Employee satisfaction was at an all‑time high. The lawsuits had been settled.
She had been promoted again, to Vice President of Corporate Strategy, a role that let her work alongside Ju‑hyuk without reporting to him. They had learned to navigate the complicated dance of dating a colleague—setting boundaries, keeping work at work, making time for each other.
Seo‑kyung's album had won two Korean Music Awards. She was working on her second, and this time, she was producing it herself.
And Seo‑ah—Yoon Seo‑ah, the woman with 0.4% ratings—was happy.
Not the kind of happiness that came from a checklist or a bucket list. The quiet kind. The kind that came from knowing who she was and what she wanted.
Ju‑hyuk joined her on the balcony, two glasses of wine in hand.
"What are you thinking about?" he asked.
"One year ago, I was standing on a rooftop, telling the universe I was canceling my own show."
"And now?"
She took the wine. "Now I'm just living."
He raised his glass. "To living."
She clinked her glass against his. "To living."
The sun was setting over the river, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. Somewhere out there, celestial beings might be watching—or they might have moved on to another story. It didn't matter.
This was her life. Not a show. Not a performance. Just life.
And she was going to live every second of it.
