Chapter 1 - Quiet

"Hey carrot muncher"

A tall, blond girl, her haired tied in a ponytail, jeans, top and jacket, bracelet necklace, and a whole lot of makeup on pulls up to a lunch table dropping a bag of carrots in front of a petite, straight black-haired girl, with ears that seem proportionately large because of her small face.

"Aren't bunny's herbivores? Should you be eating a sandwich with meat in it, let me help you out"

The blond girl snatches the sandwich away from the bunny girl and tosses it onto the ground, then she pushes the carrots on the table closer to her.

"Here, this is the perfect meal for a long-eared freak like you"

As she smirks and chuckles while walking away with two other girls laughing with her. Maple sighed, opened the bag and started eating a carrot she pulled out of it.

"Those jerks, why do they keep bothering you"

A girl beside Maple grumbles, her fist clenched, as her jaw tightens from how hard she was biting down. Staring daggers down at the girls walking away.

"And why are you eating the carrots they shoved in your face, they're just going to ridicule you more now"

"Free food, and I just lost my lunch"

Maple replied without a care in her eyes, she's dealt with this kind of treatment throughout her life, so she's use to it, and it never really bothered her, to her these people were just like dogs, begging for attention, and as much as she likes dogs, these ones were ugly in the heart.

Her friend rolls her eyes as she goes up to buy a bag of chips from the vending machine right outside the cafeteria. She sits right bag down beside Maple and hands her the bag of chips.

"Have this instead, who knows what they could've done with the carrots, so quit eating them"

Maple accepts the bag of chips and pops them open.

"Thanks"

"I never understand the reason why they bother you so much Maple, it's not like you've ever done anything to them"

Soona says as she crosses her arm on the table and puts her head down so only her eyes are showing.

"Jealousy"

 Maple replied

"What do you mean"

"Nothing"

Maple didn't really want people knowing about her keen sense of hearing, she's worried she'll hear even worse things than what she already does and doesn't want to deal with all the drama.

When she said jealousy, she knew all about why she was getting this kind of treatment from Beth, the blond girl who was teasing her earlier. It's because she was rejected by the boy she was crushing on. And the reason for that rejection was because that boy, liked, Maple.

"Hey, Mappy!"

And thinking about the boy, here he is, tall, fit, rough textured hair that covers his ear, a deep gray color in his eyes, a face that would make any girl scream out in bliss, besides Maple of course, because to her, this guy just seemed like a bother.

"hey..."

"Quiet as usual today huh"

Van says as he gives an awkward smile trying to lighten up the mood. The reason Maple couldn't care less for this guy was because of the conversation she's heard him talk about. Nothing bad, just nothing that give either of them a real connection, they have nothing in common.

"I saw what those girls were doing to you earlier, I really want to go up to them right now and just-"

"Leave it"

Maple scolds, in a cold low tone, she doesn't want any more attention than the amount she has already accumulated, all she wants to do is eat her lunch, and go back to class.

"Yeah...sorry"

 Van says, a little dejected

 Maple sighs

"It's fine, but I don't need the sympathy"

As Maple gets up and crumples the bag of chips she finished, so does her friend Soona, as they walk out the cafeteria together, leaving Van alone with his thoughts.

"Damn it, I feel like I just made the mood even worse"

Van mumbles to himself while rubbing the back of his neck.

"Sure did"

"What was that Maple"

"Nun, just talking to myself"

The two say goodbye as they go to there designated classes. Maple goes to her seat and lays her head down, waiting for the class to start, but for some reason it never does.

Only after fifteen minutes over the scheduled starting time of the class did the teacher actually show up. Breathing heavy and sweating, he shuts the door behind him, locks it and turns of the light.

"Everybody quiet"

He whispers loudly, his voice harsh and raspy. The room gets tensed, no one knows what's going on, and the teacher's reaction is just freaking everyone out even more.

"What's going on tea-"

"Shhhhh!"

The teacher shushes one of the students to prevent her from talking anymore, everyone just looks around at each other, some start shaking, while others are messing around, no one knows what's going on, no one except Maple.

Maple heard distinct locking of classrooms and shushing of teachers all around the school. Something is definitely going down right now but she can't figure out what was going on.

Then a sudden slam of a metal door can be heard, one of the school exit doors. And right after the noise of the door slamming, was a loud click sound, like a mouse trap snapping, or the sound...of a pistol being clocked back.
