Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 – A Plan That’s Way Too Loud

The next day began like any other… which, for Yuuto Hoshino, meant walking silently through the same hallway filled with voices, laughter, and hurried footsteps. But something felt different.

He could feel it.

It wasn't visible. Nor audible. But it was there — a strange anticipation in the air, as if something was about to happen.

— Today is going to be troublesome… — he murmured to himself, barely moving his lips.

— Right on the mark! — an energetic voice burst beside him.

Yuuto didn't even need to turn his head.

— Sakura…

— Good morning, Mr. Silence! — Sakura Aoyama appeared practically out of nowhere, walking beside him with exaggerated steps. — Did you sleep well? Dream about me? Think about me? Write about me? Huh? Huh??

Yuuto blinked slowly.

— Good morning — he replied, completely ignoring the barrage of questions.

— HEY! Don't ignore the important questions! — she complained, puffing her cheeks. — That's emotionally rude!

— Emotionally rude…? — Yuuto repeated, as if analyzing the phrase.

— Yes! It's like… when you consider the feelings of a curious and extremely interesting girl who is clearly interested in you!

Yuuto stopped walking for a second.

— Interested…?

— In your mystery! — Sakura corrected quickly, pointing a finger at him. — Don't get the wrong idea!

Yuuto resumed walking.

— I wasn't.

Sakura made a face.

— You're impossible.

— I'd say the same.

She smiled brightly.

— Great! We already have something in common!

---

In the classroom, the atmosphere was more chaotic than usual. Haru was standing on top of a chair (literally), making some kind of completely unnecessary announcement.

— ATTENTION, EVERYONE! — he shouted. — Today I officially declare the beginning of "Operation: Make Yuuto Speak More Than 10 Words in a Row"!

— Get down before the teacher arrives — said Ren Ishikawa, resting his chin on his hand. — Or better yet, keep going… this is entertaining.

— I support this! — Sakura raised her hand immediately. — Actually, I'm the leader of this operation!

— Leader? — Haru jumped off the chair. — I came up with the idea!

— But I have emotional motivation! — Sakura shot back.

— That's not a good sign… — Yuuto murmured, sitting down calmly.

Haru approached him with a conspiratorial grin.

— Yuuto… my silent friend… you cannot escape character development!

— I didn't ask for it.

— No one does! It just happens!

Ren laughed.

— This sounds like the beginning of a disaster.

— Sounds like? — Yuuto replied.

— Fair enough.

---

Class started, but clearly no one — especially Sakura — was interested.

Five minutes later…

A note landed on Yuuto's desk.

He glanced to the side.

Sakura was smiling like she was about to cause global collapse.

He opened the note.

"Plan number 1: Make you talk a lot today."

Yuuto picked up his pen and replied.

"Unlikely."

She read the response… and smiled even wider.

"Challenge accepted."

He sighed.

---

During break, Sakura wasted no time.

She dragged Yuuto to the courtyard with an energy that completely ignored the concept of physical consent.

— Today we're going to talk A LOT — she declared, hands on her hips. — Starting now!

— I don't see the need.

— I do!

Haru showed up right after, out of breath.

— I brought reinforcements!

— Reinforcements? — Yuuto repeated.

— Me! — said Ren, appearing behind them. — I came to watch.

— That doesn't help — Yuuto commented.

— It helps the entertainment.

Sakura clapped her hands.

— Alright! Question number 1!

Yuuto closed his eyes for a second.

— Go ahead.

— What's your favorite food?

— Curry rice.

— Question number 2! — she completely ignored the fact that he had answered. — Have you ever liked someone?

Silence.

Haru's eyes widened.

Ren leaned forward.

— That was direct — he said.

Yuuto looked at Sakura.

— Why does that matter?

— Because… — she paused for a moment, as if genuinely thinking for the first time — …I want to understand how you work.

— I'm not a system to be analyzed.

— But you seem like one! — she smiled. — And I like difficult challenges.

Yuuto remained silent for a few seconds.

— I have — he finally answered.

Haru almost screamed.

— HE ANSWERED!!

— Shut up! — Sakura smacked him. — Who was it?!

Yuuto turned his face away.

— That's another question.

— So you admit that was an incomplete answer?! — she leaned in, invading his space.

— I admit it.

— AAAARGH! — Sakura grabbed her own hair. — You're frustrating!

Ren laughed out loud.

— I'm starting to root for him.

---

As the chaos continued, a calm voice appeared behind them.

— Are you always this loud?

Everyone turned.

Misaki Fujimoto stood there, holding a book, her usual analytical gaze in place.

— Misaki! — Sakura crossed her arms. — Came to compete too?

— Compete? — she tilted her head. — No. Just observing.

— That's Yuuto's territory! — Sakura said, pointing at him.

— Interesting… — Misaki looked at Yuuto. — So you observe… and she makes noise.

— Accurate summary — Ren said.

— Thank you! — Sakura replied as if it were a compliment.

Misaki ignored her.

— Yuuto, right? — she said. — You write about people.

He nodded.

— Then… what did you write about me?

Sakura froze.

— HEY! That question is MY territory!

Yuuto thought for a moment.

— You prefer to understand before acting — he said calmly. — But sometimes, you hesitate too much because of that.

Silence.

Haru blinked.

Ren raised his eyebrows.

Sakura looked at Misaki… then at Yuuto.

Misaki slowly closed her book.

— …impressive.

— HEY! — Sakura stepped in front of him. — Don't praise him that much! He's already too quiet, he'll get full of himself!

— He doesn't seem like the type to get full of himself easily — Misaki replied.

— And you don't seem like the type to show up for no reason! — Sakura shot back.

— Maybe I've found a reason now.

The atmosphere grew strange.

Yuuto noticed.

Sakura did too.

But neither of them knew exactly why.

---

Later, in the empty classroom after school, Yuuto was alone, as always.

Notebook open.

Pen moving.

"She's loud… but not shallow.

She intrudes… but doesn't hurt.

She asks… but also observes, even if she doesn't realize it."

He paused for a second.

"…and that's dangerous."

— Dangerous? — a voice came from behind him.

Yuuto turned his head.

Sakura.

— You always show up without making noise? — he asked.

— Learned from the best — she smiled, sitting on the desk beside him. — So… what's dangerous?

Yuuto closed the notebook.

— Nothing important.

— Liar.

— Maybe.

She stared at him for a few seconds.

But this time, there was no teasing.

— Yuuto… — she said, calmer than usual — …your silence… isn't empty.

He didn't respond.

— It's just… hard to understand.

He looked at her.

— And you… — he said — …are hard to ignore.

Sakura blinked.

Once.

Twice.

— Was that… a compliment?

— It was an observation.

She smiled.

— Then I'll take it as a compliment.

Yuuto looked away.

But for the first time…

a small smile appeared.

Almost invisible.

But definitely there.

And Sakura saw it.

— Ah… — she murmured, surprised — …so you can smile.

Yuuto closed his eyes.

— Rarely.

— Then I'll make it happen more often.

— Good luck.

— I don't need luck — she said, standing up. — I have determination!

She ran out of the classroom.

Yuuto was alone again.

But something was different.

The silence…

was no longer the same.
