A Shooting Star, a Wish, and Reality Splitting Open

The night sky above the city was quiet — too quiet. Just the hum of streetlights and the occasional distant honk.

Marvin sat on a park bench, shoulders stooped, eyes half‑closed. Another day. Another empty to‑do list. Another reminder that he hadn't saved the world… or even his own life.

He stared into the vast darkness above, as if the stars held answers he didn't have.

A soft breeze passed.

And then—

A streak of light cut across the sky, brighter than any shooting star Marvin had ever seen.

He blinked.

Was it falling toward him?

Next thing he knew, it exploded overhead with a flash so bright he thought his eyeballs would melt.

When the light dimmed, Marvin was no longer in the park.

He was standing on a cobblestone floor, surrounded by flickering lanterns that cast long, wavering shadows. In front of him was a building that looked older than dirt — a travel‑worn house with a glowing sign above that read:

"The Legendary Guest House — Edge of Reality"

"…Uh…" Marvin stared at the sign like it was insulting his grandmama.

Nothing about this looked like Earth.

Before he could react, a chime sounded — like a tiny bell just popped into his head.

DING!

A floating window appeared in front of him, translucent and humming with light:

System Activated. Welcome, Guestmaster Designation Assigned:

"Host at Edge."

Marvin coughed.

"What do you mean host? I'm not even hosting a party!" he muttered.

The text blinked into a new line:

First Objective: Accept your first guest.

Reward: Guest Points (GP) + System Access.

Marvin blinked again.

"…System?"

As if on cue, the heavy Guest House doors creaked open, and a figure stepped out.

Not human. Not animal. Something… glowing.

It had the slender figure of a person, but its skin shimmered like starlight, and its eyes were too big, too bright for anything normal.

"Are — are you my first guest?" Marvin squeaked.

The stranger blinked, then smiled as if this was the most normal thing on Earth.

"If you're the host," the stranger said in a calm voice, "then yes. I've arrived."

Marvin swallowed.

"Well… uh… Welcome?"

He wasn't sure whether to shake its hand or run back to his old park bench.

A new line appeared in his system window:

Guest Registered: Star‑Kind Traveler

Guest Tier: Rare

XP Reward Pending

Marvin gaped at the words.

"Um… what does Rare mean?" he asked no one in particular.

Before the system could answer, a second guest appeared behind the first — in a swirl of mist and green flames. It looked like a beast but walked upright like a person.

Another chime sounded.

DING!

Guest Registered: Flameborne Wanderer

Guest Tier: Uncommon

New Quest: Host the first guests properly.

Marvin pinched himself.

"Ow."

He didn't think it would hurt.

But yes — this was real.

…and definitely not ordinary.

He took a shaky breath.

"Alright," he said, voice quivering. "Let's… start hosting?"

The Legendary Guest House doors closed behind him with a slow thud — and the adventure had truly begun.
