Synopsis
Twenty-five years ago, the Great Change rewrote the world. Now, power decides everything—and those born with it are called Neos. At fifteen, Alex is supposed to be just another Middle District Neo trying to earn his place at Dawn Academy. Except… he isn’t. Where others fit into the world’s rules, Alex doesn’t. Not just his power—him. Something about his existence sits outside what this world understands. Like he shouldn’t be here at all. And in a world built on strict limits, something like that doesn’t go unnoticed. Because there are things that don’t care what he can do...they care that he exists. The kind that hunts. The kind that erases. The kind that was waiting for him long before he ever stepped into the light.

Chapter 1 - PROLOGUE

PROLOGUE

The Yora Atunda - roughly translated as The Great Change.

It happened twenty-five years ago. That's when the world stopped making sense. The world history took a remarkable turn. In short it marked the beginning of the end.

"Back in my day, we didn't even know supernatural beings existed," my mum would say. "Your neighbor could be a horned freak and you'd think he just had a skin condition."

She's not exaggerating.

Before the Yora Atunda, there was something called the Mist. It was invisible, but absolute. A boundary between two worlds: the Mortal Plane, where science ruled and monsters were just bedtime stories—and the Duat, where those stories were real.

The Mist kept the Duat out, separating the two parallel worlds.

Until it didn't.

No one knows what caused it, and till date it is still one of the hottest topics on the planet. Some say it was a war. Others says the Duat was dying. Some would say it was caused by the failed experiment of some rogue scientists. But my Mum says it was "their plan"—whoever they are.

All I know is, one morning the Mist vanished. And the Duat came crashing in. The two worlds collapsing into one.

"I woke up and my cat was a monster hound," Mum once said. "Ugly thing. Still miss her, though."

In two days, millions went mad. People saw things they weren't meant to. Some became things they weren't meant to be. Cities collapsed. New ones appeared. The world map? Gone. Replaced by chaos.

That chaos led to Civil War III—the bloodiest war in history. Not just humans. Everyone fought. Monsters, hybrids, mythological freaks and even divine beings. It was survival of the nastiest.

Now, the world is a patchwork of factions. Every city has its own rules. Every village has its own army. Some places are ruled by mayors. Others by kings, dukes, or warlords. It's a mess.

And in that mess, something new was born.

Neo-Humans. Or Neos, as we're mostly called.

We're not gods. We're not monsters. We're not even sure what we are.

We're the ones who awakened after the Yora Atunda.

Some say it's mutation. Others say it's evolution.

All I know is, we're different.

Some Neos can bend metal with their minds.

Some can walk through fire.

Some can erase a city block with a snap of their fingers.

Me? I'm still figuring mine out.

My name is Alexander Cruise. I'm fifteen. And if you think being a Neo is cool, I envy you. Because that probably means you aren't one, or at least haven't activated yet.
