Chapter 6 - CHAPTER 6: “They Noticed Me”

The system didn't recover.

It tried.

But I could feel it struggling—like something was forcing it beyond its limits.

Every flicker.

Every delay.

Every hesitation.

"…It's still unstable," Mai said quietly.

"…Not just unstable," I replied.

"…It's breaking."

The interface flickered in front of me again, barely holding its shape.

[System Authority: Compromised]

[Control Level: Partial]

[Unknown Entity Detected]

"…Unknown," I murmured.

That was me now.

Not an anomaly.

Not an error.

Something else.

Something it couldn't even define.

"…Good."

Huy looked at me like I had lost my mind.

"Why do you keep saying that?!"

"…Because it means I'm no longer part of it."

The air shifted.

Subtly.

But enough.

I took a step forward.

The floor beneath me cracked instantly.

Not violently.

Not randomly.

But precisely.

Controlled.

Like reality itself couldn't maintain its structure around me.

Huy stepped back immediately.

"…You're doing that."

"…Not intentionally."

That was the problem.

This wasn't control.

Not yet.

It was reaction.

The world reacting to me.

Mai watched carefully.

"…The system isn't rejecting you anymore."

"…Then what is it doing?"

"…Adjusting."

That word lingered.

Adjusting.

Adapting.

Learning.

The walls trembled.

The ceiling warped slightly, like a reflection in broken glass.

[Warning: Structural Integrity Decreasing]

[Cause: Unknown Entity]

I smiled faintly.

"…Still trying to understand me."

The system flickered violently.

[Containment Protocol Initiated]

The air tightened instantly.

Space bent inward.

Invisible walls forming around me.

Closing in.

"…It's trying to trap you!" Huy shouted.

"…Yeah."

I didn't move.

I wanted to feel it.

Understand it.

The pressure increased.

The space twisted harder.

Trying to isolate me.

"…It can't delete you anymore," Mai said.

"…So it's trying to limit you."

"…Smart."

But not enough.

I stepped forward.

The pressure cracked.

Like glass under strain.

[Containment Integrity: 79%… 61%… ERROR]

"…Too weak."

I moved again.

Faster.

Sharper.

The containment shattered completely.

The air snapped back violently.

Huy stumbled.

"…It failed…"

"…Of course it did."

The system glitched harder.

[Reattempting Containment…]

[Failure]

"…You're running out of options," I said quietly.

For a moment—

Nothing happened.

Then—

The floor ahead vanished.

Not collapsed.

Not broken.

Gone.

Erased.

Huy froze.

"…What… what was that?"

I stared at the void.

"…That wasn't the system."

Mai nodded slowly.

"…No."

"…That felt different."

The cracks in the sky widened slightly.

Just enough.

And for a moment—

I felt it.

Clearly.

That presence.

Watching.

Focused.

Interested.

"…So you're still there," I whispered.

Huy stepped back.

"…Stop talking like that…"

"…Like what?"

"…Like something is actually listening."

I smiled faintly.

"…Because it is."

The system flickered again.

Weaker now.

[System Authority: Declining]

[External Influence: Increasing]

"…Even you can feel it," I said.

"…Can't you?"

No response.

Because it couldn't respond anymore.

I clenched my fist.

Energy surged.

Different.

Not given.

Not controlled.

Mine.

The air around me distorted again.

But this time—

It didn't resist.

It adjusted.

"…Do you feel that?" Mai asked.

"…Yeah."

"…It's reacting to me."

Not rejecting.

Not attacking.

Reacting.

That was new.

That was important.

"…So this is the next step," I said quietly.

Huy frowned.

"…Next step of what?"

I looked at my hand.

The energy moved with me.

Followed my intent.

Not perfectly.

But enough.

"…I'm not just surviving anymore."

I raised my head.

Looking at the cracked sky.

"…I'm changing it."

Silence.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

Then—

The system flickered again.

Barely visible.

[System Status: Unstable]

[Authority: Fragmented]

[External Control: Pending]

"…External control," I murmured.

Huy swallowed.

"…Something else is taking over?"

"…Not taking over."

I looked up.

"…Watching."

The cracks widened further.

Light poured through.

Cold.

Sharp.

Unnatural.

It focused.

On me.

"…It's looking at you again," Mai said.

"…I know."

This time—

I didn't look away.

I stared back.

Directly.

Silence.

Then—

Something moved behind the cracks.

Massive.

Unclear.

But aware.

Huy grabbed my arm.

"…Stop looking!"

"…No."

"…That's how it notices you!"

"…It already has."

The system reacted violently.

[Warning: Higher Authority Engaged]

[System Override Initiated]

The air tightened again.

But deeper this time.

Like the rules themselves were being rewritten.

"…It's not the system anymore," Mai whispered.

"…No."

"…It's something above it."

The light pulsed.

Once.

Twice.

Then—

Locked onto me.

My body went still.

Not from fear.

From instinct.

This was dangerous.

More than anything before.

"…So this is what's above you," I whispered.

For the first time—

I felt something answer.

Not words.

Not sound.

Presence.

Cold.

Ancient.

Absolute.

[Target Confirmed]

My pupils shrank.

"…It locked onto me."

Huy stepped back.

"…WHAT does that mean?!"

"…It means…"

I clenched my fists.

"…I'm no longer just an error."

The world trembled.

But didn't break.

It aligned.

Adjusted.

Rewritten.

[System Authority: Overridden]

"…It lost," I said quietly.

Mai didn't look surprised.

"…Then what happens now?"

I looked up.

"…Now it decides."

The pressure hit.

Not crushing.

Not violent.

Absolute.

Like a law.

"…It's defining you," Mai said.

"…No."

I shook my head.

"…It's declaring me."

The system flickered weakly.

[Designation: Variable]

"…Variable," I repeated.

That was new.

Before—

Anomaly.

Then—

Unknown.

Now—

Something else.

Something higher.

I smiled faintly.

"…So that's what I am now."

The world shifted again.

Stronger this time.

Not breaking.

Transforming.

The hallway stretched.

Distorted.

Rewritten.

"…Where are we?" Huy asked.

"…Not where we were."

The system flickered one last time.

[Phase 4 Initiated]

Then—

Silence.

Gone.

Mai exhaled slowly.

"…The system is gone."

"…No."

I looked up.

"…It's just not in control anymore."

The sky fully fractured.

And something beyond—

Watched me directly.

Not through the system.

Not through the world.

Directly.

I smiled.

Slow.

Certain.

"…They finally noticed me."

The world shook violently.

Light exploded through the cracks.

And everything—

Changed.
