Chapter 6 - cunning little Emily

Doctor Bennett put down the notebook and turned slightly.

"Would you like me to test it for you?"

"Huh? Test what?" Emily asked, confused.

"Your scheduled phase."

Emily's face burned again.

"I don't need it for now. I just finished the day before yesterday."

"Alright then. But it's better to test again after a week. After all, the chances are higher."

"Okay… okay," Emily replied awkwardly.

Studying medicine was really amazing.

Talking about this kind of thing was as casual as asking what someone had eaten today.

"Dr. Bennett… does Kellan have a cleanliness obsession? He seems like the aloof and difficult type, right?" Emily asked again.

The moment she asked, she regretted it.

He's a vegetative patient.

Why should she care about his personality?

"Yes. Sometimes he can be quite inhuman," Bennett replied calmly.

Emily fell silent.

Inhuman… what exactly did that mean?

"Young Madam, I hear your voice is a little hoarse. Do you have a cold?" Bennett asked.

"A little," Emily nodded.

"I'll check it for you later and prescribe some medicine."

"Thank you!" Emily immediately said gratefully.

After prescribing the medicine, Emily recorded her facial recognition with the nurse.

She saw the housekeeper who had returned with them walk into another room.

Emily immediately walked toward that direction.

She was planning to leave and wanted to say goodbye to Mrs. Scott before going.

She knocked on the door.

The housekeeper opened it immediately.

When he saw Emily, he respectfully welcomed her inside.

The atmosphere in the room felt slightly oppressive.

Mrs. Scott was having a video conference.

Dressed in a sharp business suit, she looked even more imposing.

The housekeeper gestured for Emily to wait quietly.

"He's just a project leader. Just because his surname is Scott, he thinks he can act superior? Is he the one who makes the final decisions for the Scott Group?"

"Next time, you don't need to cooperate with him!"

Mrs. Scott cut off the video conference decisively.

When she saw Emily, the cold expression on her face softened slightly.

"Emily, I'm returning to the capital this afternoon. I'll leave Kellan in your care."

The solemn tone made Emily's heart ripple slightly.

"Okay, Mom," Emily nodded.

"Mom, I'll go out later. I have something to take care of."

"Wherever you want to go is your freedom," Mrs. Scott replied. "I won't interfere. From now on, you can live here and just come back early in the evening."

"Okay."

Emily felt a small warmth in her chest.

Although Mrs. Scott was domineering and strict, she seemed to be a responsible mother.

"Butler Harris," Mrs. Scott called.

"Yes, Madam."

"Take Emily to meet everyone here. Roland will be responsible for her transportation from now on."

"Yes, Madam."

Butler Harris stepped forward.

"Young Madam, please follow me. I'll introduce you to everyone."

"Okay."

Emily immediately followed him out.

After meeting everyone, Emily was stunned again.

There were not only medical staff here, but also housekeepers sent by the Scott family, three nannies, and several security guards.

So many people…

All serving a vegetative patient.

"Young Madam, I'm Roland. I'll be responsible for your transportation in the future," the tall man said politely.

"Brother Roland, I'll trouble you in the future," Emily said softly.

The word "brother" made Roland slightly embarrassed.

The burly man, nearly 6'3", scratched his head awkwardly.

Everyone in the Scott household treated Emily with respect.

No one dared to slight her.

For the first time in a long while, Emily felt something unfamiliar.

Respect.

"Brother Roland, I want to go to Bayview Garden Community. Could you take me there?" Emily asked gently.

"Of course," Roland nodded immediately.

An hour later, the car drove into Bayview Garden Community.

It was still the same low-key Volkswagen.

From the outside, it looked ordinary.

But once Emily sat inside, she felt like she had gotten into the wrong car.

The interior was unbelievably luxurious and comfortable.

Except for the car logo, nothing about it resembled the ordinary Volkswagen she knew.

The car stopped in front of the Carter villa.

"Young Madam, do you need me to go inside with you?" Roland asked.

"No, wait here for me. I'll be out soon," Emily said as she stepped out of the car.

The Carter villa gate was closed.

She rang the doorbell.

The maid opened the door.

The moment she saw Emily, a look of contempt appeared on her face.

"I'm looking for Victoria," Emily said coldly.

"There are distinguished guests here today," the maid replied arrogantly. "It's inconvenient to receive you. Wait outside!"

She tried to close the door.

But Emily pushed it open forcefully.

Today, she hadn't come to beg.

Why should she endure a maid's attitude?

The maid was unprepared.

The door slammed into her nose and she screamed in pain.

Inside the villa, two families were chatting happily.

The sudden scream shattered the peaceful atmosphere.

"Mr. Carter, Mr. Song, excuse me. I'll go see what happened," Victoria said politely before stepping outside.

Inside the living room, the conversation continued.

"Richard, I didn't expect that in just over ten years you would become the richest man in New York."

"Mr. Song, you flatter me," Richard laughed. "You've built a powerful biotechnology company overseas. I heard your nephew Song Yan is one of the top researchers in the world. Compared to you, I'm just an upstart."

"You're too modest."

Outside the villa, Victoria stepped out.

When she saw Emily, her face darkened.

Emily came so quickly?

Did she already get the marriage certificate?

The Scott family must be afraid the opportunity would slip away.

Victoria sneered inwardly.

Did they think marrying Emily would connect the Scott family to the Carter family?

What wishful thinking.

"There are guests here today," Victoria said impatiently. "It's inconvenient to deal with your matter. Come back another day."

"You want to deny it?" Emily asked coldly.

"Deny it?" Victoria sneered.

"The money is mine. If I want to give it, I will. If I don't, I won't."

"What can you do? Come here and snatch it?"

"Emily, you should thank me for finding you such a good marriage!"

Emily stepped forward suddenly.

She grabbed Victoria's hair.

The speed was so fast that Victoria had no time to react.

Victoria lost her balance and fell to the ground.

The pull almost tore her scalp off.

Emily dragged her straight into the living room.

Everyone sitting inside was shocked.

"Emily! What are you doing? Stop!" Richard shouted angrily.

Dragging Victoria with one hand, Emily took out her phone with the other.

She pressed play.

Yesterday's recording filled the room.

"However, Aunt Victoria has a way to get you five hundred thousand dollars."

"What way?"

"Your grandfather had a good friend…"

"You just need to get the marriage certificate with that man. Then you won't even need to ask your father for the five hundred thousand dollars. I'll give it to you myself. But before I see the marriage certificate, don't even think about getting a single cent!"

As the recording played, Victoria's face turned extremely ugly.
