Chapter 2 - Chapter 2. The Hidden World

The world outside Lin Xuan's window had grown dark, but his mind burned with a quiet intensity. The mockery at the academy still echoed faintly, but he didn't dwell on it. Tonight, he had something far more important to explore.

He closed his eyes, feeling the pulse within—the Tower awakening. It was subtle at first, a faint tug at the edges of his consciousness, as if something inside him were stretching, testing its limits. Then, almost imperceptibly, a space unfolded before his mind's eye.

A vast void, empty yet alive, appeared. And within it, a small island floated, shimmering with faint light. This was the underground floor—the administrative heart of the Tower. A tiny log house sat at its center, surrounded by a sparse forest, a small pond, and a patch of farmland. It was simple, almost mundane—but the feeling of control was immense.

Lin Xuan's consciousness spread across it. A faint interface appeared, unseen by the outside world: a monitoring grid, showing every corner of the Tower. Floors, zones, potential settlements—everything could be observed, adjusted, or restricted. This was his world, and only he could touch it.

No one else can know… not yet.

The Tower whispered its rules into his mind. To allow someone to live here required a blood pact—a soul-binding agreement that would make their life intertwined with his. Once the pact was sealed:

They could never speak of the Tower's secrets.

They must obey the hidden rules; betrayal, schemes, or attempts at uprising would be punished.

Their presence would feed the Tower, subtly strengthening him.

Lin Xuan frowned slightly. Every life matters… but only if they can be trusted.

He shifted his consciousness upward. The first floor revealed itself like a new world. It was vast—a continent spanning 500 kilometers both in length and width. Rivers meandered like silver ribbons, mountains rose sharply into the sky, and scattered villages and towns dotted the land. Yet, as beautiful as it was, it was empty. No people, no animals, no insects. Only the raw, waiting land.

A sun rose, casting golden light across forests and plains. A faint moon hovered in the sky, slowly turning the night, creating a complete day-night cycle. The wind whispered through the empty trees; rivers sparkled with untouched clarity.

This will be their home… if they earn the right. Lin Xuan thought.

The Tower pulsed, showing him the mechanics. He could measure the power feedback of every living being he placed inside:

1,000 humans = 0.01% increase in his power.

1,000 animals = 0.01% increase.

1 insect colony = 1 human.

1 school of fish = 1 human.

Every life added not just to the Tower, but to him—body, mind, and soul. He could feel it subtly, like a warm current flowing through his senses. Yet this was not a number to flaunt. It was private, unseen, and vital.

He explored the empty villages, noting the potential: houses could be restored, farms rebuilt, rivers dammed for irrigation, mountains could shelter towns, forests could support hunting or livestock. Every structure, every piece of land could be occupied—but only under a blood pact.

No pact… no life. No life… no growth.

He exhaled slowly, letting the vision sink in. The underground floor would remain for his family, safe and hidden. The first floor—immense, empty, and alive—would be for those he chose to trust. And as he imagined the future, he could almost see it: villages bustling, rivers teeming with fish, forests alive with deer and small mammals, towns growing under his careful supervision.

Every life I place here… strengthens me. Every bond I form… builds the Tower.

The thought made his pulse thrum stronger. The Tower was vast. It was empty. It was alive. And soon… it would be his.

The Lin family sat together in the log house on the small floating island. The soft glow of lanterns reflected on the wooden walls, casting long shadows that flickered across their faces. Lin Xuan's heart pounded as he studied each of them—his parents, Lin Hao, Lin Mei, Lin Wei, Lin Hua, and little Lin Jia. The words he was about to speak weighed heavier than any spell or blade he had ever faced.

"This… isn't easy for me to say," Lin Xuan began, voice low but steady, "but I have to be honest with all of you. What I've awakened… it's dangerous. More dangerous than you can imagine."

His father frowned. "Dangerous? You're a student… what could possibly threaten you?"

Lin Xuan shook his head. "Not me… you." He looked each of his siblings in the eye. "You are ordinary. You have no power. This world… it's not kind to people like you. Monsters, rogue dungeons, magic users… and people far stronger than me. And now that I've awakened…" His voice faltered for a moment, then steadied again. "I will grow. My power will grow. And where there is growth, there is danger. Anyone near me… will be a target."

Lin Mei gasped. "Targets? You mean… the monsters? The dungeons?"

"Everything," he said, tone grim. "Sudden dungeon portals, beast tides, enemies I have yet to face… if you stay outside, you will be in danger. I can't protect you if I'm not there, if I'm busy… fighting or leveling up."

A heavy silence filled the room. His father's jaw tightened. His mother reached for his hand, her grip trembling slightly.

"There's a way to keep you safe," Lin Xuan continued, urgency creeping into his voice. "The Tower… it has an underground floor. A place only I can control. You will live there. You will be safe. Everything outside—monsters, enemies, dungeons—will never reach you. But…" He took a deep breath, voice softening. "I need your trust. I need you to stay there. To obey, to follow my guidance. You will not be powerless there… but you must form a blood pact to enter."

Lin Hao blinked. "Blood pact?"

"Yes," Lin Xuan said. "It's a bond. Once you enter, the Tower will recognize you as its resident. You cannot speak of its secrets, and you cannot interfere with what happens outside. You'll live there, safe, and help me manage it when I need it—but you must trust me. I am the only one who can navigate this world. Without that… even ordinary dangers will be fatal to you."

Lin Hua's voice trembled. "But… can we trust this… Tower?"

Lin Xuan's gaze softened. "I'm asking you to trust me. Not the Tower. I am your son, your brother. I can't control the world outside, but I can control this place. Please… let me keep you safe. Please stay with me."

His mother's eyes glistened. "You… want to protect us?"

"I want to protect all of you," he said, voice low but firm. "I can't promise to stop the world from being dangerous. But I can promise that inside this Tower… you will survive. You will live. You will be safe. But you have to trust me. You are my family… and without that trust, I can't grow, and neither can you."

Lin Mei, Lin Wei, and Lin Jia exchanged hesitant glances, slowly nodding. Lin Hao, still tense, clenched his fists. "If this is how we survive… then I trust you, brother."

His mother smiled faintly, though worry etched every line on her face. "We'll stay. We trust you, Xuan. Always."

Relief washed over him, though he kept his expression calm. "Good. The Tower will open to you. You will be the first residents of the underground floor. Safe. Invisible. Protected. I won't tell anyone else about this… it's our secret. Only us."

Lin Xuan's pulse stirred faintly inside, almost imperceptible, like the Tower itself approving his decision. A quiet hum ran through him—the first taste of growth, tied to the lives he swore to protect.

And for the first time in weeks, the mockery at the academy, the laughter of Zhao Kai, the weight of the world outside—it didn't matter. He had his family. Safe, close, and alive.

The Tower waited, infinite and patient, as the Lin family sealed their pact quietly, the shadows of night wrapping around them like a protective cloak.

This is just the beginning.
