It was their final year of school—Grade 12. Between the mounting pressure of the upcoming board exams and constant worries about the future, the classroom atmosphere had grown unusually heavy lately. It was a typical Wednesday. The familiar school hustle hummed in the air, while a light breeze drifted through the classroom windows, making the last period feel slow and dreamy.
In the classroom, the seating rows for boys and girls were separate. Aryan sat at the very corner of the last bench in the boys' row. Parallel to him, on the very last bench of the girls' row, sat Megha. They weren't just classmates; they were childhood friends. Having grown up in the same neighborhood, they had walked to school together every single day. Even when the teacher was busy lecturing, a single glance between them could convey a thousand unspoken words. Today was no different; they were lost in each other's eyes, perhaps drowning in some deep, shared thought.
Just a few minutes before the final bell, the Biology teacher entered the room. The classroom chatter died down instantly. He walked straight to the blackboard and made an announcement:
"Listen up, everyone! For your Biology practicals, we have organized an 'Outdoor Trip' this coming Monday. We will be visiting the famous Botanical Garden outside the city. Make sure to get permission from your parents and arrive at school early Monday morning in your uniforms."
He further clarified, "Everyone must bring their personal diaries, practical boxes, pens, and necessary notebooks. We have arranged for an overnight stay. After a full day of fieldwork, we will return by bus the following morning. Food and all other arrangements will be taken care of there."
With those words, the teacher left the room. In an instant, a wave of joy swept through the classroom! For the Grade 12 students, who were buried under mountains of notes and study pressure, this trip felt like a sudden splash of rain on a parched soul. Aryan and Megha were beaming with excitement. For these two, who had been nothing but busy with studies lately, the chance to travel together felt like a precious gift. They looked at each other and shared a soft, secret smile.
As the final bell rang, everyone rushed out of the classroom with cheers and laughter. Aryan and Megha packed their bags and started their walk back home, their hearts already dreaming of the romantic adventure that awaited them next Monday.
