Riley's POV
The morning sun filters through my bedroom window as I prepare to leave for school. Zoey had stayed until nearly ten the previous evening, and we spent hours dissecting every possible scenario and motive behind what might be happening. While most of our conclusions were built on assumptions and educated guesses, I felt more prepared for whatever might come next.
I step outside and lock my front door, adjusting my backpack on my shoulder. When I turn around, Mason is there waiting by his car, casually leaning against the passenger door with that confident smile of his. My stomach tightens with wariness, and I deliberately avoid making eye contact as I head straight for my bicycle.
His footsteps follow behind me quickly. "Riles, wait up. How about I drive you to school today?" His voice carries that same pleading tone from yesterday.
I glance back at him with barely concealed disbelief. "Thanks, but I prefer my bike."
