Brooke's POV
The moment I burst through the front door, my legs carry me straight to Gloria. She doesn't hesitate before wrapping her arms around me, pulling me against her chest like she's trying to shield me from the world. Through my peripheral vision, I catch Oscar rising from his chair, his expression grim as he heads toward the exit. Relief floods through me knowing Theo won't be facing whatever's out there alone.
Gloria's hands cup my face as she pulls back to examine me, her eyes scanning for injuries. The curse that slips from her lips makes my stomach clench. "Jesus Christ. We need to get you cleaned up, honey." But suddenly everything crashes back into focus. The danger. The need to disappear. The urgency that's been clawing at my chest since this nightmare began.
