Chapter 1: The System Died, But Not Quite
Star Dou Forest Outskirts, Douluo Continent
Night. Rain.
Huo Yuhao huddled in the hollow of an ancient tree root, soaked to the bone, his lips purple with cold.
He was six years old, thin as a twig, his clothes caked with mud and torn in a dozen places—torn when he scrambled over the walls of the White Tiger Duke's estate three days ago.
He should have been a duke's son. But his mother had only been a maidservant.
On the third day after his mother's death, the Duchess sent servants to clear out their small room. "A servant's belongings don't deserve to take up space in the main household." Six-year-old Huo Yuhao was shoved out the door with nothing but an old silver hairpin his mother had left behind.
He ran.
Ran along the official road for two full days without food or water, until his legs gave out and he collapsed into the tall grass at the edge of the Star Dou Forest.
Now, curled in the root hollow, listening to the rain hammer against the leaves above, he thought he probably wouldn't see the sunrise.
Then he heard a voice.
—Ding.
Very faint. Like something shattering.
Huo Yuhao's head snapped up. The rain kept falling. The forest was empty. But the sound had definitely come from inside his skull.
—"Host detected… vital signs critical… initiating emergency protocol…"
—"System core… damage at 99.7%… unable to operate normally…"
—"Scanning remaining functions… complete. Available: template storage (×4)… basic data retrieval… that's all."
Huo Yuhao blinked rainwater out of his eyes.
"System?" he tried, thinking the words as clearly as he could.
—"…Here."
The voice sounded exhausted. Like it was about to die any second.
"What kind of system are you?"
—"Universal Heritage System… originally… bound for a place called the Supreme Martial Realm… hit a spatial rift mid-transit… crashed into you… binding error… core shattered…"
Huo Yuhao was silent for a moment.
"So what can you still do?"
—"…Storage. Four templates. Nothing else."
"Templates?"
—"Four heritages from four supreme martial worlds… sealed in your Sea of Consciousness… you can't access them now. Too weak. Opening them would kill you."
Huo Yuhao looked down at his hands. Stick-thin. Blue-veined. Six years old. Zero soul power. He didn't even know where his next meal was coming from.
"When can I open them?"
—"…Unknown. System core is shutting down… one last diagnostic…"
A pause. Then:
—"Diagnostic complete. Current world: Douluo Continent. Anomaly detected: multiple temporal-void signatures… minimum seven confirmed. Warning: original protagonist's destiny offset probability… 73%… increasing."
—"System entering hibernation… final suggestion…"
—"Don't die."
And then the voice was gone.
Huo Yuhao sat in the rain for a long time.
Don't die. He repeated the words silently. Easy for you to say.
But he stood up anyway. Gripping the tree root, one hand pressed against his hollow stomach, he took a step deeper into the forest.
What he didn't know—what he couldn't see—was that far beneath the surface of his consciousness, a single green lotus floated in eternal stillness. At its heart, four sealed spheres of light pulsed with dormant power: one fierce as a dragon's roar, one sharp as a sword's edge, one vast as an entire world, and one ancient as the dawn of time.
And in the deepest core of the Star Dou Forest, a pair of golden vertical pupils slowly opened.
"Strange…" The voice was low, like the rumble of distant thunder. "The child who was supposed to appear in these days… his aura has changed."
A pause.
"…Someone's been rewriting the script."
---
The rain stopped sometime before dawn.
Huo Yuhao found a small stream and drank until his stomach cramped. The water was cold and clean, and after two days of nothing, it was almost enough to make him forget how hungry he was.
Almost.
He sat on a moss-covered rock, watching the first light filter through the canopy. Birds were starting to stir. Somewhere in the distance, a beast let out a low, rumbling call that vibrated through the ground.
He was in the Star Dou Forest. The most dangerous place on the continent. And he was six years old, zero soul power, no weapons, no food, and no clue which direction led back to civilization.
"Don't die," he muttered. "Right. I'll just… not die. Simple."
He pulled his knees to his chest and closed his eyes.
It had been three days since his mother died. He hadn't had time to grieve. The servants had come the day after the funeral. The Duchess's people. They'd taken everything—the worn blankets, the chipped bowls, even the tiny herb garden his mother had tended outside their window.
"You're not really a duke's son, are you? Your mother was a servant. You're nobody."
Huo Yuhao had stood in the doorway of the room he'd lived in his entire life, watching strangers carry out the only possessions he'd ever known. And he'd felt something cold settle in his chest. Not sadness. Not anger.
Something worse.
Emptiness.
So he'd run. He'd climbed the garden wall, dropped into the muddy ditch on the other side, and started walking. He didn't know where he was going. He just knew he couldn't stay in a place where his mother's memory would be erased like she'd never existed.
"Hah…"
The laugh that escaped his throat was thin and bitter. He was six years old and he was already talking to himself. That couldn't be a good sign.
He was about to force himself to his feet again—he had to keep moving, had to find food, had to survive—when something shifted inside his head.
A warmth. Very faint. Like the first ray of sunlight after a storm.
Huo Yuhao froze.
"—System… alert…"
"You're still alive?" He almost laughed with relief.
"—Barely. But… I can do one thing. Opening that diagnostic woke up… a fragment. A tiny sliver of one template. It's locked, but I can… show you what it is."
A flicker of light appeared in his mind's eye. He saw it: a page from an ancient book, its edges burned and cracked, its text written in characters that seemed to shift as he looked at them.
[Martial Peak · Yang Kai — Template Fragment]
—True Yang Scripture: Introduction
"Harness the yang energy of heaven and earth, condense it into liquid form, store it within your core. The first drop is the hardest. After that, the path becomes clear."
Huo Yuhao stared at the words. They were burning themselves into his memory, seeping into his bones.
"What does this mean? I can do this? Here?"
"—Theoretically. The world's energy is… different from the Supreme Martial Realm. But the principle is similar. If you can sense the yang energy in the air…"
"I can't sense anything. I have zero soul power. I'm six years old. I've never done any kind of cultivation—"
"—You're also the only native Huo Yuhao in this timeline."
The voice was fainter now, each word a struggle. "I have no idea what that means. The diagnostic said 'anomaly.' It said 'time-line offset.' But I am… too damaged… to understand…"
"Wait—you can't just drop that and—"
"—Find sunlight. Try to sense it. That's all I can… help with…"
And then the presence in his head went silent again.
Huo Yuhao sat on the mossy rock, trying to process what he'd just heard.
The only native Huo Yuhao in this timeline.
What the hell did that mean?
---
The sunlight came slowly.
Huo Yuhao followed the stream until he found a clearing where the trees opened up and a patch of golden light fell through. He sat in the center of it, cross-legged, and closed his eyes.
He didn't know any meditation techniques. He'd never had a teacher. But he remembered the system's words: Try to sense it.
So he tried.
He emptied his mind. The hunger faded. The cold faded. The fear faded. There was only the warmth of the sun on his face, the sound of the stream, the pulse of blood through his veins.
And then—
A spark.
Tiny, almost imperceptible. A warmth that wasn't the sun's. A thread of gold deep inside his chest, where his dantian should be.
Huo Yuhao opened his eyes.
"What was that?"
"—You sensed it." The system's voice was a whisper. "You actually sensed it. That's… impossible. Even a genius in the Supreme Martial Realm would take days to sense external yang energy for the first time."
"I don't know what I sensed. It could have been a stomach cramp."
"—It wasn't."
Huo Yuhao was quiet for a moment. Then he smiled.
It was a small smile, thin and uncertain. But it was the first time he'd smiled since his mother died.
"Alright," he said, to no one in particular. "Alright. If I can sense it, I can learn to use it. How long until I can open one of those templates?"
"—At your current rate of growth? At least a hundred days. Probably longer."
"A hundred days. I have to survive a hundred days in the Star Dou Forest. At six years old. With no soul power."
"—That is correct."
Huo Yuhao stood up. His legs were shaking. His stomach was empty. But there was something new in his chest now—a tiny, warm ember that hadn't been there before.
"One hundred days," he said. "I can do that."
He took a step toward the treeline. Then another.
Behind him, far beyond the canopy of the Star Dou Forest, something was stirring.
Seven figures, scattered across the continent, each one suddenly aware of a subtle shift in the world's fabric.
In a small village in the Heavenly Soul Empire, a boy named Xu Tianyao looked up from his dinner, his pupils contracting. "What… was that? Something just changed. Something important."
In a hidden training ground at Shrek Academy, a girl in boy's clothing paused mid-spar, her eyes widening. "The timeline… it felt like it just breathed."
In the Frozen Wastes of the Far North, a girl with ice-white hair smiled as she watched her status panel flash a new notification. [WARNING: Temporal Anchor Detected. Reality Stability: 71%.]
And in the deepest shadow of the Star Dou Forest, those golden eyes closed again.
"Interesting. Very interesting. The child is not the child he was supposed to be."
A pause. Then:
"Let's see what you become."

Author's Note:
This story follows the original timeline of Douluo Continent II (The Unrivaled Tang Sect) while integrating the four heritage templates from the collapsed "Supreme Martial Realm" system. All key events from the original work will remain intact—but with seven self-aware outsiders attempting to rewrite them, the "native" Huo Yuhao will have to carve his own path through a world that was never meant to be his.
