Chapter 107 - Episode 107 : Beyond the Veil

The hidden Veil Gate beneath the Hollow Grove remained silent.

No one touched it.

No one attempted to activate it.

Yet the discovery had changed everything.

The Water Guardian was not simply another forgotten presence somewhere beneath Veridian.

It had a connection to another lost civilization.

A civilization beneath the sea.

Thalorin.

The Water Memory

Morning came quietly to the Green Veil.

Mist drifted between the trees while the Veridian tribes slowly returned to their daily lives.

Hunters prepared for the day's journey.

Tree-dwellers moved between their suspended homes.

Drumkeepers tested the great wooden drums beneath the roots.

The forest was alive again.

But beneath the First Root, Lirion had not slept.

He stood before the memory crystal they had recovered from the seven-root chamber.

Its tiny drop of water continued moving inside.

Left.

Right.

Left.

As though searching for somewhere to go.

Sorion entered the chamber.

"You've been watching it all night."

Lirion didn't look away.

"It keeps responding to something."

Sorion approached.

"What?"

"Water."

Sorion smiled.

"We already knew it was connected to the Water Guardian."

"No."

Lirion finally looked at him.

"I'm talking about water outside Veridian."

Sorion's expression changed.

"Thalorin?"

Lirion nodded.

"The crystal is resonating with something beneath the Endless Ocean."

Bardin entered behind them.

"That's interesting."

Dorion followed.

"Interesting usually means dangerous."

Valek smiled.

"Then we're probably going in the right direction."

Kaelira entered last.

"What did you find?"

Lirion activated the crystal.

A faint blue projection appeared.

Two locations emerged.

One beneath the jungle.

One beneath the ocean.

Between them—

a line.

Kaelira stared.

"They're connected."

Lirion nodded.

"Two Veil Gates."

Sorion looked at the image.

"The hidden gate of Veridian…"

He pointed toward the second location.

"…and the Veil Gate of Thalorin."

The Gate That Traveled

Lirion expanded the projection.

The two gates were not simply connected by a physical tunnel.

The connection behaved differently.

The Veil Gates created a shared passage through Technomagik space.

Something could move between them.

Kaelira looked confused.

"Then why did the Water Guardian remain here?"

Lirion studied the energy.

"It didn't."

Everyone looked at him.

"What?"

Lirion pointed toward the water signature.

"The Water Guardian traveled."

Sorion immediately understood.

"Between Veridian and Thalorin."

Lirion nodded.

"It wasn't trapped in one location."

"It was moving through the Veil network."

Bardin leaned toward the projection.

"So the Water Guardian was…"

He searched for the right word.

"A traveler?"

Kaelira shook her head.

"A protector."

The Siren

The young Hunter suddenly stepped forward.

She touched the memory crystal.

Her eyes widened.

"I know this song."

Bardin looked at her.

"Song?"

She nodded.

"It comes from the water."

The crystal began to glow.

A voice emerged.

Soft.

Ancient.

Almost musical.

Not words.

A call.

"Aaaaaah…"

The chamber trembled.

The roots responded.

Water began flowing from cracks in the stone.

Sorion closed his eyes.

He recognized the memory.

A gigantic ocean.

Ancient Thalorian cities beneath the waves.

Veil Gates connecting distant regions.

And through one of those gates—

a luminous figure.

She moved through the water like a living current.

Long flowing hair.

A body formed from water, light, and ancient Technomagik.

Her voice traveled through the ocean.

Everywhere she passed, the water became clear.

Every corrupted current weakened.

Lirion whispered:

"The Siren."

Kaelira looked at him.

"The Water Guardian."

Lirion nodded.

"The Siren of Thalorin."

The Guardian's Journey

The memory continued.

The Siren traveled through the Veil Gate of Thalorin.

Then—

through another gate.

Veridian.

Then another.

Ancient regions were connected by the Veil network.

The Siren carried something between them.

Not water.

Life-memory.

Rain.

Rivers.

Springs.

Oceans.

Seeds carried by floods.

Creatures crossing waterways.

Ancient knowledge preserved in currents.

She was the living circulation of Veridian's water systems.

But then—

Omnission came.

When Omnission Arrived

The memory changed.

The world became dark.

The ancient Thalorians watched their cities lose their memories.

Guardians became monsters.

People forgot their names.

Technomagik Domes shut down.

The Veil Gates began failing.

The Siren sensed the corruption spreading through the network.

She understood something terrifying.

If Omnission reached the Veil Gates—

it could travel between worlds.

So she made a choice.

She entered the Veil Gate.

BOOOOM!

The gate erupted with water.

She forced the connection open.

Then redirected the corrupted energy away from the Thalorin cities.

Lirion watched in disbelief.

"She used herself as a filter."

Sorion nodded.

"She protected them."

Kaelira whispered:

"Thalorin wasn't the only place she protected."

The memory showed Veridian.

The Siren emerged through the hidden Veil Gate beneath the Hollow Grove.

She entered Veridian's rivers.

Then the corruption followed.

The Siren immediately understood.

If she allowed the corruption to pass through—

the entire living network could be infected.

So she severed the connection.

The Price of Separation

Sorion suddenly understood.

"She separated Veridian from Thalorin."

Lirion nodded slowly.

"And herself from both."

Bardin looked at him.

"But she kept the gates alive."

"Yes."

Lirion pointed toward the projection.

"She didn't destroy the connection."

"She locked it."

Kaelira looked toward the First Root.

"That explains the withering."

The chamber became quiet.

Sorion looked at her.

"Explain."

Kaelira answered:

"When the Siren sealed the connection, Veridian lost part of its natural water circulation."

Lirion added:

"And some regions slowly became isolated."

Sorion looked toward the memory crystal.

"So the forest wasn't simply corrupted."

"No," said Kaelira.

"It was disconnected."

The Guardian Returns

The memory crystal suddenly cracked.

CRACK!

Water exploded from it.

Dorion immediately raised his shield.

BOOM!

A wave struck the chamber.

"Everyone back!"

Valek grabbed Bardin and pulled him away.

Lirion shouted:

"Don't attack!"

The water formed into a gigantic serpent.

Its eyes glowed blue.

It roared.

SHAAAAA!

Dorion stepped forward.

"Lirion!"

"I said don't attack!"

The serpent lunged.

Dorion raised his shield.

CLANG!

The impact threw him across the chamber.

Valek rushed forward.

The creature struck again.

Valek rolled beneath the attack.

Bardin began playing.

A slow melody.

The same melody he had used in Thalorin.

The serpent stopped.

Its body began changing.

Water became light.

Light became a woman-like figure.

The Siren stood before them.

Not fully physical.

Not fully spirit.

A living memory of the ancient guardian.

She looked toward Sorion.

And spoke.

"Thalorin remembers."

Sorion stepped forward.

"Do you remember us?"

The Siren smiled.

"I remember everyone."

The Puzzle of the Two Gates

The Siren turned toward the floor.

Water spread across the stone.

Two circles appeared.

One represented Veridian.

The other represented Thalorin.

Between them were seven symbols.

Lirion studied them.

"It's another gate sequence."

Kaelira asked:

"What must we do?"

The Siren answered:

"Remember the order."

Seven symbols appeared.

Water.

Memory.

Connection.

Growth.

Seed.

Migration.

Rhythm.

Lirion frowned.

"That isn't the order from the First Root."

Sorion understood.

"Because this isn't about the ecosystem."

He pointed toward the gates.

"It's about travel."

Lirion nodded.

"Water carries memory."

"Memory identifies the destination."

"Connection opens the path."

"Then growth, seed, migration and rhythm maintain the living exchange."

Bardin looked at him.

"So the gate doesn't simply need power."

"It needs purpose."

Sorion placed his hand on the Veridian symbol.

Lirion placed his hand on Thalorin.

Bardin began playing.

The Siren raised her hand.

Water flowed between the two circles.

One by one, the symbols illuminated.

Water.

Memory.

Connection.

Then—

THOOM.

The hidden Veil Gate activated.

The Battle at the Gate

The activation awakened something else.

Black tendrils erupted from beneath the roots.

Kaelira immediately drew her weapon.

"Corruption!"

The tendrils attacked the gate.

Dorion intercepted them.

BOOM!

His shield shattered one.

Valek cut another.

Bardin's music disrupted a third.

Lirion deployed a Technomagik barrier.

But more emerged.

Sorion suddenly realized what was happening.

"Stop destroying them!"

Dorion looked at him.

"They're attacking the gate!"

"They're trying to reach the connection!"

Lirion scanned the tendrils.

"They're remnants of Omnission's corruption."

The Siren raised both hands.

Water erupted through the chamber.

SHHHHHH!

The corruption recoiled.

But it did not disappear.

Instead, it tried to follow the water toward the activated gate.

Sorion shouted:

"Close the path!"

The Siren looked at him.

"If I close it completely, Thalorin remains isolated."

Sorion understood.

"And if you leave it open…"

"Omnission can follow."

Silence.

Lirion suddenly pointed toward the seven symbols.

"We don't need to close it."

Everyone looked at him.

"We need to filter it."

The New Veil

Lirion connected the reserve Veil Gate Battery Crystal from Thalorin to the Veridian gate.

The crystal began glowing.

The Siren's water surrounded it.

Sorion released memory resonance.

Bardin maintained the rhythm.

Kaelira and the Verdant Warriors held the roots around the gate.

Dorion and Valek protected the chamber.

The gate began separating the energies.

Blue water passed through.

Black corruption stopped.

WHOOOOOM!

The entire chamber shook.

Then—

silence.

The corrupted tendrils collapsed.

The gate remained open.

But only clean water-memory could pass.

Lirion stared at the readings.

"It worked."

Sorion smiled.

"The Siren wasn't protecting Thalorin by hiding from Omnission."

He looked toward the gate.

"She was protecting it by controlling what could cross."

The Siren nodded.

Tears of the Siren

A single luminous tear appeared on the Siren's face.

It fell.

Plink.

The droplet landed in the crystal vessel.

Lirion stared.

"The Tears of the Siren."

Sorion nodded.

The Siren looked toward Veridian.

"They were never meant to heal the forest alone."

Kaelira stepped forward.

"Then what are they?"

The Siren answered:

"Memory of water."

She touched the ground.

"Water remembers where life can return."

The droplet glowed.

Roots around the chamber began recovering.

Not completely.

Not instantly.

But they began moving.

A tiny green shoot emerged from the soil.

Kaelira stared.

"The restoration can begin."

The Siren shook her head.

"Not yet."

Everyone looked at her.

"You have found the path."

She pointed toward the seven symbols.

"But the guardians must be understood before the network is restored."

Sorion nodded.

"Water first."

The Siren smiled.

"Water remembers."

The Secret of the Veil Gate

Before the Siren disappeared, Sorion asked one final question.

"Why was the Veridian gate hidden?"

The Siren's expression became serious.

"To protect both worlds."

"From Omnission?"

"Yes."

"But there was another reason."

The Siren looked toward the western forest.

"The gate was also hiding a memory."

Lirion stepped forward.

"What memory?"

The Siren looked directly at Sorion.

"Of the one who closed it."

The chamber became cold.

Sorion remembered the strange signal.

Fear.

The unknown presence.

The warning:

Do not open the gate.

Sorion whispered:

"Elyndra."

The Siren did not answer.

She simply looked toward the darkened gate.

Then said:

"Some doors were closed to keep corruption out."

She paused.

"Others were closed to keep memory in."

The Siren dissolved into water.

Before disappearing completely, her voice echoed through the chamber:

"When the Veil opens again, remember why it was closed."

The gate went dark.

The Journey Ahead

The questors stood silently before the ancient gate.

They had discovered the truth.

The Water Guardian was not lost.

She was the Siren of Thalorin, an ancient guardian who traveled through the Veil Gate network between Thalorin Depths and Veridian Enclave.

When Omnission threatened both regions, she protected them by controlling the Veil connection.

But the price was enormous.

Veridian's natural water-memory became partially isolated.

The separation helped prevent Omnission from spreading.

Yet it also contributed to the long decline of parts of Veridian.

Now the questors had the means to begin reconnecting the two regions.

But they could not simply open the gate.

They had to understand the ancient safeguards first.

Lirion looked at the seven symbols.

"We have Water."

Sorion looked toward the First Root.

"And Connection."

Bardin added:

"Memory."

Kaelira looked toward the jungle.

"But five guardians remain."

Dorion smiled.

"Then we find them."

Valek shook his head.

"We listen for them."

Sorion looked toward the hidden Veil Gate.

"And somewhere behind this gate…"

He remembered the voice.

Do not open the gate.

"…someone still remembers why it was sealed."

The forest breathed around them.

Far beneath the roots, the ancient Veil Gate gave one final pulse.

THUM.

And deep beneath the Endless Ocean—

another Veil Gate answered.

THUM.

Two worlds had remembered each other.

But between them—

something was still waiting.
