Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 : A Sister's Gift, A Friend's Betrayal, and the Setup

Amit, Priya, and Sai returned home, weary but content from their shopping spree. Amit and Sai retired to Amit's room, while Naina headed to hers. As she freshened up, her mother arrived with a steaming mug of coffee. "Thanks, Mom!" Priya said happily, taking a sip. Just then, a knock startled them. Sai appeared at Priya's doorway, requesting permission to enter, which confused both Naina and her mother.

"What's wrong, dear?" Priya's mother asked Sai, sensing his unusual demeanor. "Do you need something?"

"No, Aunty," Sai replied, then pulled out a royal blue box. Priya and her mother exchanged puzzled glances. "What's this?" Priya asked. Sai simply smiled and opened the box, revealing a beautiful necklace with a swan pendant and a delicate red diamond. "This is the same chain," Priya observed, "but the pendant is different. And why are you giving this to me here?"

"This is for you," Sai clarified. Priya, still confused, looked at her mother. Sai then explained, "I'm an only child, and I don't have any sisters, not even among my cousins. When I first saw you, I felt like you could be my sister. And when I saw how much you liked the necklace in the shop, I decided to give you something, like a brother would." He added, "I know I'm not blood-related, but would you accept me as your brother?"

Priya was touched, a wave of happiness washing over her, but she hesitated. Her mother gently touched her shoulder, nodding her head in encouragement. "Yes, take it," her mother mouthed. Priya accepted the necklace, making Sai beam. He gave her a warm side hug, and Priya, smiling, clasped the necklace around her own neck. Sai, feeling a newfound joy, then left the room.

Priya's mother told her to rest and promised to call her for dinner. Priya ate dinner and retired to her room, unaware of the sinister plan Manik was weaving for her.

The next morning, Sunday, was a cheerful family day. Everyone cherished the time together, especially with Amit and Sai, who were leaving tomorrow morning. Priya was in her room, studying, when her mother came to give her a glass of juice. Just as her mother was about to leave, Priya's phone rang. It was Jaya. Naina answered, and her mother, still nearby, overheard Jaya's urgent tone. "Meet me at the Greece Hotel," Jaya said, "something important and urgent. I've called Anjali and Kavita too."

"No, I can't meet now," Priya responded, reluctance heavy in her voice.

"I'll come and pick you up and drop you off, don't worry!" Jaya pleaded. Priya again refused. "Please!" Jaya begged. Priya's mother, sensing the urgency, chimed in, "It must be important, dear. You should go." With a sigh, Priya finally conceded. "Okay, we'll meet." Jaya, ecstatic, immediately called Manik: "Priya said yes! I'm going to pick her up now."

Priya waited in front of her house for Jaya. In a few minutes, Jaya arrived in her car, and Priya got in, settling into the back seat. "Jaya, what's so important?" Priya pressed. But Jaya simply replied that she would explain everything once they reached the hotel, in front of Anjali and Kavita.

Soon, they arrived at the hotel. Jaya went to the reception to get a room key card, then pretended to call Anjali. "Wait, I'll come outside to get you?" Jaya said into the phone, then turned to Priya, handing her the key card. Priya was confused, wanting to question Jaya, but Jaya kept talking into her phone, making it seem like she was deeply engrossed in the call. Sensing Priya's confusion, Jaya quickly explained, "Anjali's on the phone, she's lost her way. Please go up to the room, we'll be right there." Priya hesitated for a moment, then, seeing no other option, headed for the elevator.

The moment Priya was out of sight, Jaya smiled, then called Anjali, gleefully announcing, "Our plan worked!" She then called Manik, assuring him she was coming to the room. Jaya and Anjali continued their conversation, already referring to Priya as their future sister-in-law. Jaya then left the hotel.

Moments later, Priya reached the hotel room, a lavish suite. She checked the elevator, hoping to see Jaya, but no one was there. With a sigh, she inserted the key card, and the lights inside the suite flickered on. As Priya stepped inside, she froze. Manik was there, sitting on a sofa, casually sipping wine. What the hell was he doing here?
