Later that evening, the Larento mansion was wrapped in a peaceful silence.
Soft golden lights illuminated the gardens, making the entire estate glow beautifully beneath the night sky.
A sleek black sedan slowly drove through the grand front gates.
The security guards immediately recognized the vehicle.
"Good evening, Mr. Adrian," one of them greeted respectfully as the gates opened.
Adrian smiled politely.
"Good evening."
This wasn't Adrian's first visit to the Larento mansion.
In fact, he'd been coming there since he was a little boy.
The friendship between the Larento family and Adrian's family stretched back more than one generation. It had begun with their grandparents long before Adrian or Stephanie were ever born, and over the years, the bond between the two families had only grown stronger.
There had even been a time when everyone believed that friendship would become something more.
Adrian's mother, Colette Moreau, and Louis Larento had grown up together.
Their families were so close that relatives often joked—and sometimes seriously hoped—that the two would one day get married.
As children, they attended family gatherings together.
As teenagers, they were inseparable friends.
Many believed their friendship would eventually blossom into love.
But as they grew older…
Colette began noticing a side of Louis that others rarely saw.
Behind his charming smile hid a frightening temper.
She saw flashes of anger that made her uncomfortable.
Arguments that escalated far too quickly.
A possessiveness she couldn't ignore.
She realized she could never spend her life with a man like that.
So despite their families' hopes…
She quietly walked away.
Not long afterward…
Louis met Evelyn.
A young woman from a humble background who believed she had finally found the man who would love her forever.
She thought she'd found her happily ever after.
Instead…
She walked into years of pain.
As a child, Adrian had only overheard bits and pieces of that story whenever the older generation reminisced.
Back then, he never truly understood why his mother would grow quiet whenever Louis' name was mentioned.
Now…
After everything Stephanie had learned…
Those old family stories suddenly made heartbreaking sense.
Tonight, however…
His visit to the mansion felt different.
He wasn't here as the grandson of old family friends.
He was here because of Stephanie.
The car came to a gentle stop in front of the grand entrance.
Before Adrian could even reach the front door, it swung open.
Madeleine stepped outside with a bright smile.
"Adrian!"
She walked toward him with open arms.
"It's so good to see you."
Adrian smiled warmly.
"Good evening, Mrs. Larento."
Madeleine laughed softly.
"Must you still call me that?"
Adrian smiled sheepishly.
"I guess old habits are hard to break."
She gently patted his arm.
"You've grown into such a wonderful young man."
Before Adrian could reply, Henri stepped outside.
"There he is!"
Henri smiled broadly as he approached.
"My boy."
Adrian reached out to shake his hand.
"It's good to see you again, sir."
Instead, Henri pulled him into a warm embrace.
"No need to be so formal."
Adrian laughed.
"I'll try."
Madeleine looked at him with grateful eyes.
"There's something we've wanted to tell you."
Adrian frowned slightly.
"What is it?"
She gently squeezed his arm.
"Thank you."
He blinked.
"For what?"
Henri smiled warmly.
"For bringing our granddaughter back into our lives."
Adrian immediately shook his head.
"I didn't do anything."
"You did," Henri replied.
"If life hadn't brought you and Stephanie together…"
"We might never have found her."
"We'll always be grateful for that."
Adrian smiled modestly.
"I'm just glad she finally found the family she deserves."
Madeleine's eyes became misty.
"And we're glad she found someone like you."
The sincerity in her voice caught Adrian by surprise.
Before he could respond, Madeleine smiled knowingly.
"She's upstairs."
"And yes…"
"We've noticed she keeps glancing toward the staircase every few minutes."
A smile spread across Adrian's face.
"I'll go see her."
Henri nodded.
"Go ahead."
"She's been through a lot today."
"I know."
A housekeeper escorted Adrian upstairs.
When they reached Stephanie's room, the housekeeper lifted a hand to knock.
But before she could…
The door opened.
Stephanie stood there.
For a brief moment…
Neither of them spoke.
Their eyes met.
Then Stephanie smiled.
"You came."
Adrian smiled back.
"I told you I would."
Something about hearing those words made Stephanie's heart feel lighter.
Behind her, Maya suddenly appeared.
She looked from Stephanie…
To Adrian…
Then folded her arms dramatically.
"Well…"
"If it isn't Prince Charming."
Adrian chuckled.
"Good evening, Maya."
She grinned mischievously.
"I'll leave you two alone."
"But if I come back and hear wedding plans…"
Stephanie threw a pillow at her.
"Maya!"
She laughed as she caught it.
"What?"
"I like planning ahead."
Still laughing, Maya walked out and quietly closed the door behind her.
The room became peaceful once more.
Adrian glanced around.
"So…"
"How's life in a mansion treating you?"
Stephanie laughed softly.
"It's still hard to believe."
"I keep expecting someone to tell me there's been a mistake."
His eyes drifted toward the mountain of shopping bags arranged neatly near the wardrobe.
"I see Grandpa has already started spoiling you."
Stephanie smiled.
"He really has."
"And Grandma insisted I accept everything."
She laughed.
"Maya nearly cried in the boutique."
"I did not!" Maya shouted from somewhere down the hallway.
The two burst into laughter.
When the laughter faded, Stephanie's expression slowly became serious.
"There was something I wanted to tell you."
Adrian immediately gave her his full attention.
"What is it?"
She took a slow breath.
"Grandpa and Grandma are going to Los Angeles."
"To see my mom."
Adrian nodded.
"I thought they might."
Stephanie looked down at her hands.
"I'm going with them."
Without hesitation, Adrian answered.
"So am I."
Stephanie looked up.
"…What?"
"I'm coming with you."
She stared at him.
"Adrian…"
He gently took one of her hands.
"You've spent your whole life facing difficult things on your own."
"You won't do that this time."
"You'll have your grandparents."
He smiled warmly.
"And you'll have me."
Stephanie felt tears sting her eyes.
"You'd really come all that way… just for me?"
Adrian looked at her as though the answer were obvious.
"I'd go anywhere if it meant making sure you're okay."
Stephanie couldn't stop the smile that spread across her face.
"Thank you."
He squeezed her hand gently.
"You never have to thank me for choosing you."
A soft knock interrupted them.
The door slowly opened.
Henri and Madeleine stood there.
"We hope we're not interrupting," Madeleine said with an apologetic smile.
Stephanie quickly stood.
"Not at all."
Henri looked toward Adrian.
"We couldn't help overhearing."
"You want to travel with us?"
"Yes, sir."
Henri smiled.
"I was hoping you'd say that."
Stephanie looked at him in surprise.
"You were?"
Madeleine nodded warmly.
"We've known Adrian almost his entire life."
"We trust him."
Henri walked over and rested a hand on Adrian's shoulder.
"And after seeing the way he looks at our granddaughter…"
He smiled knowingly.
"We know she'll be safe with him."
Adrian nodded sincerely.
"I'll do everything in my power to protect her."
"I know you will," Henri replied.
Madeleine walked over and gently held Stephanie's hands.
"My dear…"
"You spent so many years believing you were alone."
She smiled lovingly.
"But you're not anymore."
"You have a family now."
Stephanie looked around the room.
At her grandparents.
At Adrian.
At the place that was already beginning to feel like home.
Her eyes filled with tears.
For the first time in her life…
She truly understood what it meant…
To belong.
And when the day finally came to face her mother in Los Angeles…
She wouldn't be walking into the past alone.
She would be surrounded by the people who loved her…
Every step of the way.
