Chapter 1 - When the British came in india

In 1600 AD, the British came to India as traders through the East India Company. Their main objective was to earn profit by trading in cotton and silk cloth, Indian spices, indigo and cotton. But gradually, with their military strength and political diplomacy, they began to establish a foothold in India . The British strengthened the foundation of their political rule in India through the war of Plassey in 1757 AD. and the war of Buxar in 1764 AD. These victories paved the way for the establishment of their political power in the country. During British rule in India, many economic changes took place . They introduced modern industries, railways, telegraph, and postel services, but their main aim was to strengthen their administration, military organization, and trade. Due to British agricultural policies, Indian handicrafts and the textile industry were ruined because British machine - made goods, being cheaper and of finer quality, captured the Indian markets.
