EPIC ADVENTURES: The Blade of LightChapter 1: The Boy Who Dreamed of Fire
Kai never believed in destiny.
Not when the villagers whispered that some people were born special. Not when the elders spoke about magic like it was a gift from the gods. And definitely not when he looked at himself—just a boy with no power, no purpose, and no place in a world that seemed to move on without him.
But the dreams…The dreams made it hard not to believe.
It always started the same way.
A burning sky.
Not the warm orange of sunset, but a violent red that swallowed the clouds whole. The air felt heavy, like the world itself was holding its breath.
Kai stood alone.
In front of him—A sword.
It floated slightly above the ground, glowing so brightly it hurt to look at. Light pulsed from it like a heartbeat, slow… powerful… alive.
And then the voice came.
"You are the last hope."
Kai reached out—
Then everything shattered.
He woke up gasping.
Sweat clung to his skin as he sat upright, his chest rising and falling too fast. The early morning light slipped through the cracks of his small wooden window, peaceful… too peaceful compared to what he had just seen.
"Again…" he muttered, running a hand through his messy brown hair.
It had been happening for weeks now.
Same dream. Same voice.
Same feeling… like something was waiting for him.
Kai sighed and swung his legs off the bed. There was no time to think about dreams. Not when real life was already hard enough.
The village of Eldorin was quiet, as always.
Too quiet.
People moved with purpose, but never with excitement. Laughter was rare. Hope… even rarer.
Kai walked through the dirt path, hands in his pockets, watching others train with magic in the distance. Sparks of energy flickered in the air, bright and beautiful.
He stopped.
Watched.
"…Must be nice," he whispered.
"Oi, Kai!"
He turned to see an older boy smirking at him. "Still dreaming about being a hero?" the boy mocked. "You? With no magic? Be serious."
Laughter followed.
Kai forced a smile. "Wasn't planning on it."
But inside…Something stung.
That afternoon, everything changed.
It started with a sound.
A crack.
Then another.
The sky… broke.
Kai looked up just as darkness spread across the clouds like ink in water. The air grew cold. Too cold.
"What is that…?" someone whispered.
Then the creatures came.
They fell from the sky—twisted shadows with glowing eyes and jagged limbs. They hit the ground hard… then rose.
And attacked.
Screams filled the village.
Fire spread. Homes collapsed. People ran, but there was nowhere safe.
Kai's heart pounded as he ran with the others.
"Just run… just run…" he told himself.
But then—
A cry.
He turned.
A child had fallen.
A shadow creature was right behind them.
Kai froze.
His body screamed at him to keep running.
But his feet… wouldn't move.
"…No."
He turned back.
Ran toward the danger.
The creature lunged—
But before it could strike—
A flash of light cut through the air.
The creature vanished instantly.
Kai blinked.
"…What?"
He looked down.
There it was.
The sword.
The same one from his dreams.
Glowing. Waiting.
Calling.
His heart raced. "This… isn't real…"
The village burned around him. People screamed. The world was falling apart.
And yet…
Everything felt quiet.
Like the moment was only his.
The voice returned.
"Take it."
Kai hesitated.
"…Why me?"
No answer.
Another scream echoed.
That was enough.
He reached out—
And grabbed the sword.
Light exploded.
A powerful wave burst from him, blinding, overwhelming, unstoppable. The ground shook. The creatures screamed as they dissolved into nothing.
The sky cleared.
Silence fell.
Kai stood there, frozen, the sword still in his hand… glowing brighter than ever.
The villagers stared.
No one spoke.
No one moved.
"…Kai?" someone whispered.
But Kai couldn't answer.
Because deep down…
He knew.
His life would never be normal again.
