Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 – A Marriage Proposal

Rain poured heavily over the city, turning the streets into rivers of grey water and blurred lights. Cars rushed past while people ran under umbrellas, trying to escape the storm.

But Aria Sen didn't care about the rain.

Her clothes were already soaked, and strands of her dark hair stuck to her face as she stood outside a quiet café on the corner of the street.

Her hands trembled slightly.

Tonight was the night everything would change.

If this plan failed… her life would be over.

Aria looked through the glass window of the café.

Inside, a man sat alone at a table near the back.

Even from a distance he looked different from everyone else.

Tall. Calm. Dangerous.

His black coat rested over the chair while he slowly stirred his coffee, his sharp grey eyes scanning a document in front of him.

That man was Ronan Blake.

People whispered many things about him.

Some said he was a businessman.

Some said he worked for the government.

Others believed he was something far more dangerous.

But one thing was certain.

No one dared to mess with Ronan Blake.

And tonight…

Aria was about to ask him to marry her.

Her heart pounded loudly as she pushed open the café door.

A small bell rang.

Warm air filled with the smell of coffee surrounded her.

Ronan didn't look up.

But Aria knew he had already noticed her.

She slowly walked toward his table.

Every step felt heavier than the last.

Finally she stopped in front of him.

"Mr. Blake," she said softly.

Ronan lifted his eyes.

The moment their gazes met, Aria felt a strange pressure in the air.

His eyes were cold and calculating, like he could see through every lie.

"Yes?" he said calmly.

His voice was deep and quiet, but it carried authority.

Aria sat down across from him.

For a moment she couldn't speak.

Ronan studied her silently.

"You followed me for twenty minutes," he said.

Aria froze.

"You… noticed?"

"Of course."

His expression didn't change.

"So," he continued, leaning back slightly, "why is the daughter of the Sen family secretly meeting me in the middle of the night?"

Aria swallowed.

Of course he knew who she was.

Ronan Blake knew everything.

She took a deep breath and placed a small folder on the table.

"I need your help," she said.

Ronan glanced at the folder but didn't touch it.

"And what kind of help do you think I offer?"

Aria pushed the folder closer to him.

"A marriage."

For the first time, Ronan paused.

His fingers stopped moving.

Silence filled the space between them.

Then slowly he opened the folder.

Inside were legal documents.

Marriage papers.

A contract.

Ronan flipped through the pages, his expression unreadable.

"A contract marriage," he said.

"Yes."

"And why would you want to marry me?"

Aria clenched her hands under the table.

"My family is forcing me to marry someone."

Ronan raised an eyebrow.

"That sounds like a normal problem for wealthy families."

"This man is not normal."

Her voice became tight.

"His name is Victor Kane."

For the first time Ronan's eyes sharpened.

Victor Kane was not just a businessman.

He was one of the most powerful and dangerous men in the city.

Criminal networks.

Illegal weapons.

Political influence.

Victor Kane controlled everything.

"Interesting," Ronan murmured.

Aria continued.

"My father has already agreed to the marriage. The wedding will happen in two months."

"And you want to escape."

"Yes."

Ronan closed the folder.

"So you want me to become your fake husband."

"Only for one year."

Aria looked directly into his eyes.

"If I'm married to you, Victor Kane cannot touch me."

Ronan was silent for a moment.

Then he asked one question.

"Why me?"

Aria hesitated.

Because she knew the truth.

Because Ronan Blake was the only man powerful enough to stand against Victor Kane.

But that wasn't the only reason.

She had discovered something else.

Something dangerous.

"You're not just a businessman," she said quietly.

Ronan's eyes became colder.

"Be careful with your words."

Aria leaned forward slightly.

"You're a spy."

The temperature in the room seemed to drop instantly.

Ronan's gaze locked onto her.

Danger flashed across his expression.

For several seconds neither of them spoke.

Then Ronan slowly smiled.

But it was not a friendly smile.

It was the smile of someone who had just found something… interesting.

"You know," he said softly, "most people who discover that secret don't live very long."

Aria's heart skipped.

But she didn't look away.

"I'm not afraid."

Ronan studied her carefully.

Rain tapped softly against the windows.

Finally he asked,

"What makes you think I won't kill you right now?"

Aria took a deep breath.

"Because you need me too."

Ronan tilted his head slightly.

"Explain."

"Victor Kane," she said. "You've been investigating him for years."

Ronan didn't react.

But Aria knew she was right.

"My marriage to him will give you access to his world," she continued.

"But if I marry you instead…"

She slid the contract toward him again.

"I can help you from the inside."

Ronan looked down at the contract.

Then back at her.

"You're offering yourself as bait."

"Yes."

"You realize people may try to kill you."

"I know."

"You might die."

Aria didn't hesitate.

"I'd rather die than marry Victor Kane."

The café became silent again.

Ronan watched her for a long time.

Something about this woman was different.

Most people were terrified of him.

But Aria Sen sat in front of him like she had already accepted whatever fate awaited her.

Finally Ronan stood up.

Aria's heart dropped.

Was he leaving?

But instead he picked up a pen.

He signed the contract.

Then placed the pen on the table.

"One year," he said.

Aria blinked.

"You… agree?"

"Yes."

Relief flooded through her chest.

But Ronan leaned down slightly and whispered near her ear.

"Just remember something, Aria."

His voice became darker.

"Once you marry a spy…"

"Your life will never be normal again."

Aria looked at the signature on the contract.

And for the first time she wondered if she had just made the most dangerous decision of her life.

Outside, the rain continued to fall.

And somewhere in the city…

A man named Victor Kane had no idea that his future bride had just married someone else.

But when he found out…

War would begin.
