Tittle: A Promise Between Two Hearts

Tag line: They made a promise once...destiny is giving them a second chance.

Story Description / Submission Pitch:

The rain fell softly that evening as Amara stood by the café window, watching strangers pass by.

She never expected to see him again.

But when the door opened and Ethan walked in, her heart stopped for a moment.

The same eyes.

The same quiet smile.

Years had passed, yet the promise they once made still lingered between them.

Chapter One

The Promise That Never Faded

The rain fell gently over the quiet streets, leaving the city wrapped in a soft gray haze.

Inside a small café at the corner of Maple Street, Amara sat by the window, her fingers wrapped around a cup of coffee that had long gone cold. Outside, strangers hurried past with umbrellas and hurried steps, each lost in their own world.

Amara watched them silently.

Rainy evenings had always made her thoughtful. They had a way of pulling old memories from places she tried hard to forget.

She sighed softly and glanced at the clock on the wall.

Six thirty.

She had promised herself she would leave soon.

Just as she reached for her bag, the door of the café opened with a soft chime.

A rush of cool air slipped inside.

Amara barely looked up at first. People came and went all the time. There was nothing unusual about another customer stepping in to escape the rain.

But then something made her pause.

A voice.

Low. Calm. Familiar.

Her heart skipped.

Slowly, she lifted her gaze.

And for a moment, the world around her seemed to fall completely silent.

Standing near the entrance, shaking droplets of rain from his coat, was a man she thought she would never see again.

Ethan.

Years had passed since the last time she had seen him. Yet somehow, he looked almost the same.

The same steady posture.

The same quiet confidence.

Only his eyes had changed.

They carried a depth she didn't remember… as if life had taught him lessons neither of them had been ready for before.

Amara's fingers tightened around the edge of the table.

This can't be real.

Ethan turned slightly, speaking to the barista as he placed his order. His voice was calm, but there was a faint exhaustion beneath it.

For a moment, he didn't notice her.

Part of Amara wanted to stand up and leave before he did.

After all, what reason did they have to meet again?

The past had already written their ending.

Or so she believed.

But fate, it seemed, had other plans.

Perhaps sensing something, Ethan glanced around the café.

His eyes moved across the room casually…

Until they stopped.

On her.

Time froze between them.

Recognition slowly spread across his face, followed by something far more complicated—shock, disbelief… and something that looked dangerously close to emotion.

Amara's breath caught in her throat.

Neither of them spoke.

They simply stared at each other, two people standing on opposite sides of a memory that had never truly faded.

Then Ethan began walking toward her.

Each step felt heavier than the last.

Amara's heart pounded.

She hadn't prepared for this moment. She had spent years convincing herself that their story had ended long ago.

Yet here he was.

Closer.

Closer.

Until he finally stopped beside her table.

For a second, he said nothing.

Then, quietly, almost carefully, he spoke her name.

"Amara."

The sound of it stirred something deep inside her chest.

Memories. Promises. Feelings she thought time had buried.

She forced herself to stay calm.

"Hello, Ethan."

The words felt strange after so many years.

He studied her face as though searching for something he had lost.

"You look… different," he said softly.

Amara gave a small smile. "People change."

"Yes," Ethan replied.

There was a pause between them, filled with unspoken things.

Then his gaze dropped briefly to her hand resting on the table.

And suddenly his expression shifted.

Something unreadable flickered in his eyes.

When he looked back at her, his voice was quieter than before.

"Amara… are you married now?"

The question hung in the air between them like a fragile thread.

Amara opened her mouth to answer.

But before she could speak—

A man's voice called her name from behind.

"Amara? Sorry I'm late."

Ethan slowly turned toward the voice.

And what he saw next made his expression harden.

Standing behind Amara was a man holding an engagement ring box.
