Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 The Calm Before the Hunt

Morning at Aurelion Elite University arrived quietly.

Sunlight slid across the ancient stone towers, illuminating the campus like a kingdom awakening after centuries of sleep.

Students filled the pathways again.

But the atmosphere had changed.

Something invisible had shifted.

Predators had sensed a new presence.

And predators were always curious.

Inside Room 307, Selene Valkrith opened her eyes.

She had already been awake for two hours.

Watching.

Listening.

Learning.

Her silver gaze remained calm as she sat by the balcony door, a book open in her lap.

To anyone watching, she looked like a quiet student studying before class.

But Selene wasn't reading.

She was memorizing the heartbeats across the dormitory building.

Thirty-two humans.

Six witches.

Nine vampires.

Four wolves.

One hybrid.

And one… anomaly.

Her eyes flickered slightly.

The anomaly was sleeping on the other bed.

Raven.

Raven suddenly spoke without opening her eyes.

"You've been staring at the wall for thirty minutes."

Selene calmly turned a page of the book.

"I'm reading."

Raven snorted.

"You haven't blinked."

Silence.

Then Raven finally sat up, stretching lazily like a cat.

Her golden eyes studied Selene.

"You're weird."

Selene closed the book.

"So are you."

Raven grinned.

"Fair point."

She stood up and grabbed her jacket.

"So… quiet witch girl."

Selene looked at her.

"What?"

Raven tilted her head.

"You don't smell scared."

Selene remained silent.

Raven continued.

"Most first-year students spend their first day terrified. Especially scholarship witches."

She leaned closer slightly.

"But you walked through campus yesterday like you owned the place."

Selene simply said,

"I don't scare easily."

Raven stared at her for a long moment.

Then she smiled again.

"Good."

She grabbed her dagger.

"Because this school eats the weak."

The hallway outside the dorm was already crowded.

Students moved toward the main building for orientation.

Selene walked beside Raven calmly.

But eyes followed them.

Supernatural instincts were sharp.

And many of the heirs here had already noticed something unusual about Selene Valkrith.

She walked like someone who had survived battlefields.

Not classrooms.

Whispers spread quietly.

"Who's that?"

"The silver-eyed girl."

"A witch?"

"She doesn't smell like one."

Selene ignored them.

Years of training had taught her something important.

Attention could be a weapon.

Or a weakness.

And she refused to become either.

The orientation hall was enormous.

A cathedral-sized chamber with towering windows and ancient chandeliers.

Rows of seats filled the room.

At the front stood a raised platform with several professors.

Raven nudged Selene.

"Look."

Selene's gaze lifted.

Standing at the center of the stage was the university's headmaster.

An old man with snow-white hair and golden eyes.

But Selene felt the truth immediately.

Vampire.

Very old.

Very powerful.

Raven whispered,

"Headmaster Lucien."

Selene watched quietly.

Lucien began speaking.

"Welcome to Aurelion Elite University."

His voice echoed through the hall.

"You are the heirs of supernatural dynasties."

"Future leaders."

"Future kings."

"Future queens."

Selene remained expressionless.

Kings and queens were just titles.

Power decided everything.

Lucien continued.

"This university does not protect weakness."

The room became silent.

"Here you will fight."

"Compete."

"Bleed."

"Those who survive will shape the future of our world."

A few students smiled confidently.

Others looked uneasy.

Lucien's golden eyes slowly scanned the crowd.

Then they paused.

Directly on Selene.

For a brief second…

Time felt like it stopped.

Selene calmly met his gaze.

Lucien's smile deepened slightly.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

Then he continued speaking.

After the speech, students began moving toward different departments.

Combat Magic.

Supernatural Strategy.

Ancient Bloodline Studies.

Raven stretched again.

"First class is Combat Magic."

Selene nodded.

They walked toward the training arena.

But halfway there—

A tall figure stepped in front of them.

The hallway suddenly grew quiet.

Students nearby immediately stepped back.

Selene looked up calmly.

The man standing before them was tall, broad-shouldered, and radiated raw power.

Silver hair.

Crimson eyes.

Wolf aura.

Strong.

Very strong.

Raven muttered quietly.

"Great."

Selene tilted her head slightly.

"Problem?"

Raven sighed.

"That's Alpha heir Kael Draven."

Selene observed him silently.

Future Ruthless Alpha King.

The scent of dominance rolled off him like a storm.

Kael looked directly at Selene.

Not Raven.

Selene.

His sharp eyes studied her.

"You."

His voice was deep.

"You're the new girl."

Selene answered calmly.

"Yes."

Kael stepped closer.

Close enough that many students expected Selene to step back.

But she didn't move.

Not even slightly.

Kael noticed.

His lips curved faintly.

"You don't bow."

Selene blinked once.

"Should I?"

Several students gasped quietly.

Raven almost laughed.

Kael stared at Selene for a moment.

Then he suddenly smiled.

Not kindly.

Like a predator discovering a puzzle.

"Interesting."

He leaned slightly closer.

"You smell strange."

Selene held his gaze.

"So do you."

Silence filled the hallway.

For a moment, it looked like the future Alpha King might explode with anger.

Instead…

Kael laughed.

A deep, dangerous laugh.

Then he stepped aside.

"Be careful at this school, witch."

His crimson eyes glowed faintly.

"Some monsters here enjoy breaking pretty things."

Selene walked past him without hesitation.

Her calm voice drifted back.

"I'm not something that breaks."

Raven burst out laughing as they walked away.

"Oh, I like you."

Selene didn't reply.

But behind them—

Kael Draven watched her disappear down the hallway.

His instincts screamed something impossible.

That quiet girl…

Was not prey.

She was something far worse.

Far away in the ancient underground throne room…

The Ancient Immortal Warrior felt it too.

Selene Valkrith's presence was growing stronger.

His golden eyes burned with curiosity.

"So the game begins…"

And inside the training arena…

The first test of survival at Aurelion Elite University was about to begin.

A test where students would fight for dominance.

But no one in that arena knew one terrifying truth.

The quiet witch standing among them…

Was the most dangerous creature in the entire university.

But when Selene Valkrith finally steps into the arena and the sealed power inside her begins to stir, will the supernatural heirs realize they are not fighting a student—but a future queen?
