"You smell like Zereph. Why?"
Terra's question cut through the cold mountain air like a blade through butter. She was staring directly at me, her green eyes narrowed with sudden intensity that made my stomach flip.
I opened my mouth, but no sound came out. How exactly was I supposed to answer that?
Orisyl stepped forward and gently placed her hand on my shoulder, pulling me slightly closer to her side. The gesture felt protective, almost maternal, which was weird considering she looked like a teenager right now.
"Terra, I should properly introduce you," Orisyl said, her voice steady and clear. "This is Amara. She is Zereph's daughter and half god, half human."
The silence that followed was so thick you could have cut it with a butter knife and served it on toast.
Terra just stared at me. Her mouth opened slightly, then closed again. She blinked once, twice, three times like she was trying to reset her brain.
