Chapter 1 - The Night of fate

The moon was full.

It hung high in the sky like a glowing silver coin, lighting the sacred clearing of the Silver Moon Pack. The forest seemed alive tonight. Wolves gathered in groups, their excited voices filling the cool night air.

Tonight was the Mating Ceremony.

Every unmated wolf over the age of twenty-one stood around the clearing, waiting for the moment when fate would reveal their destined partner.

Lena Rivers stood quietly near the back of the crowd.

Her hands were trembling.

"Relax," her best friend Maya whispered beside her. "You look like you're about to faint."

Lena forced a nervous smile. "Easy for you to say. What if my mate doesn't like me?"

Maya rolled her eyes. "It's a mate bond, Lena. He doesn't get a choice."

But Lena wasn't so sure.

She had always been different from the other wolves in the pack. While most were strong fighters, Lena was quiet and gentle. She preferred helping the healers and reading ancient pack books instead of training in combat.

Many wolves considered her weak.

And tonight she feared fate might agree.

The Alpha's voice suddenly echoed across the clearing.

"Step forward when you feel the mate bond."

The crowd grew silent.

One by one, wolves began to react as their mates appeared. Laughter and joyful cries filled the air as couples embraced.

But Lena felt nothing.

Her heart slowly sank.

Maybe she didn't have a mate after all.

Just as she turned to leave—

A powerful scent filled her senses.

Her wolf stirred inside her mind.

Mate.

Lena froze.

Her eyes slowly lifted across the clearing.

And then she saw him.

Alpha Damon Blackwood.

The most powerful wolf in the entire region stood near the center of the clearing. His dark hair fell across his forehead, and his golden eyes glowed faintly under the moonlight.

He was tall, intimidating, and feared by most of the pack.

But right now…

He was staring directly at her.

Her heart slammed against her chest.

The bond snapped into place like lightning striking her soul.

"Mate…" she whispered.

Gasps erupted around the clearing.

The Alpha's mate was a quiet girl no one expected.

Damon walked slowly toward her, his expression unreadable.

Every step made Lena's heart beat faster.

This was it.

Her destiny.

But when he stopped in front of her, his face hardened.

His voice was cold.

"I reject you."

The world seemed to stop.

Broken Bonds

Silence fell across the clearing.

The words echoed in Lena's ears like a cruel joke.

"I reject you."

For a moment, she thought she had misheard him.

Her wolf howled in pain inside her chest.

"Why?" Lena whispered, her voice barely audible.

Damon crossed his arms.

"Because I need a strong Luna," he said bluntly. "Someone who can lead beside me."

His eyes swept over her like she was something disappointing.

"You are not that wolf."

Murmurs spread through the crowd.

Some wolves looked shocked.

Others looked… unsurprised.

Lena felt the weight of their judgment pressing down on her.

Her throat tightened.

"So… that's it?" she asked quietly.

Damon didn't hesitate.

"Yes."

Her wolf whimpered.

The mate bond felt like a fragile thread pulling at her heart.

If he rejected her fully, it would break forever.

She had two choices.

Beg.

Or accept it.

Lena straightened her shoulders.

Tears burned in her eyes, but she refused to let them fall.

"If you truly don't want me…" she said slowly, "then I accept your rejection."

Pain exploded through her chest.

The invisible bond between them snapped.

Lena gasped as the force of it nearly knocked her to her knees.

Damon flinched slightly, feeling the echo of the broken bond.

But he said nothing.

The ceremony continued.

As if Lena's heart had not just shattered in front of everyone.

Maya rushed to her side.

"Lena, I'm so sorry."

But Lena barely heard her.

She could only think of one thing.

She could not stay here.

Leaving Everything Behind

The pack house was quiet that night.

Most wolves were still celebrating the mating ceremony.

But Lena sat alone in her small room, staring at the bag lying open on her bed.

Inside were only a few things.

Some clothes.

A small photo of her parents.

And a silver necklace her mother had given her years ago.

She held the necklace tightly.

"Mom… what should I do?"

But of course, there was no answer.

Her parents had died when she was sixteen.

Since then, the pack had been her only family.

Now it felt like she had none.

A knock came at the door.

Maya stepped inside.

"You're really leaving, aren't you?" she asked softly.

Lena nodded.

"I can't stay here."

"Because of Damon?"

"Not just him."

She looked around the room sadly.

"This pack has always seen me as weak. Maybe they're right."

Maya grabbed her shoulders.

"No, they're not! Lena, you're one of the strongest people I know."

Lena gave a small, tired smile.

"Then maybe it's time I prove that somewhere else."

They hugged tightly.

"Be careful," Maya whispered.

"I will."

A few minutes later Lena walked out of the pack house.

The night air was cold.

The forest stretched endlessly before her.

She had no destination.

No plan.

Only the determination to leave her broken past behind.

As she stepped past the territory border, her wolf stirred quietly.

For the first time in years…

Lena felt free.

But deep in the shadows of the forest, something dangerous was watching her.

And her real story was only just beginning.

The Lonely Road

The forest was darker than Lena remembered.

Without the familiar scent of pack members around her, every rustling leaf made her heart jump. The Silver Moon territory had always been heavily guarded, but beyond its borders the world was unpredictable.

Lena walked for hours.

The moonlight filtered through the tall trees, casting long shadows on the forest floor. Her legs ached, but she refused to stop.

If she stopped, she might start thinking.

And thinking would bring back the painful memory of Damon's voice.

I reject you.

Her wolf whimpered again.

"Stop," Lena whispered softly to herself. "He made his choice."

Still, the pain lingered deep in her chest.

Eventually exhaustion forced her to rest. She found a fallen log beside a quiet stream and sat down, letting the sound of running water calm her thoughts.

For the first time since leaving the pack, she allowed herself to cry.

Not loudly.

Just silent tears slipping down her cheeks.

"I'll be fine," she whispered into the night. "I have to be."

But somewhere deep in the forest, glowing eyes watched her carefully.

Danger in the Shadows

The smell reached Lena before the sound did.

Rogues.

Her body instantly tensed.

Rogue wolves were outcasts who lived without pack laws. Many were violent and unpredictable.

Slow footsteps approached from the darkness.

"Well, well…" a rough voice said. "What do we have here?"

Three large men stepped out from between the trees.

Their eyes gleamed with dangerous amusement.

"A lone she-wolf," another one said. "And she smells scared."

Lena slowly stood up.

Her heart pounded, but she refused to show fear.

"I'm just passing through," she said firmly.

One of the rogues laughed.

"No one just passes through our forest."

Their wolves pushed close to the surface, their eyes glowing brighter.

Lena knew she couldn't outrun three rogues.

Which meant she had only one choice.

She shifted.

Her bones cracked and reshaped as her wolf form emerged—a sleek silver-gray wolf. She growled, lowering herself into a defensive stance.

The rogues grinned.

"Feisty."

One of them lunged.

Lena dodged quickly, but the other two circled her.

Her heart raced.

She was outnumbered.

Just as one rogue prepared to strike—

A deep, thunderous growl echoed through the forest.

Every wolf froze.

From the shadows stepped a massive black wolf.

His fur gleamed under the moonlight, and his golden eyes burned with deadly authority.

The rogues immediately backed away.

Even Lena felt the overwhelming power radiating from him.

The black wolf bared his teeth.

The message was clear.

Leave.

The rogues didn't argue.

Within seconds they vanished into the trees.

The black wolf slowly turned toward Lena.

Then, in a flash of movement, he shifted.

Standing before her was a tall man with dark hair and piercing eyes.

"Are you trying to get yourself killed?" he asked calmly.

The Mysterious Savior

Lena shifted back into her human form, quickly pulling her jacket tighter around herself.

"I had it under control," she muttered.

The man raised an eyebrow.

"Three rogues against one inexperienced wolf?"

She sighed.

"Okay… maybe not completely under control."

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

The man studied her carefully, as if trying to understand why she was here.

"You don't smell like a rogue," he finally said.

"I'm not."

"Then why are you alone in rogue territory?"

Lena hesitated.

But something about his calm presence made it easier to speak.

"I was rejected by my mate."

The man's expression darkened slightly.

"Rejected?"

She nodded.

"He's an Alpha. Apparently he needs a stronger Luna."

The stranger was silent for a moment.

Then he said quietly, "Then he's a fool."

Lena blinked in surprise.

"Maybe."

He crossed his arms.

"Or maybe he's blind."

For the first time since her rejection, Lena felt a tiny spark of warmth in her chest.

"Thank you," she said softly.

The man nodded once.

"My name is Kael."

She hesitated before answering.

"Lena."

Kael looked toward the dark forest surrounding them.

"You shouldn't stay out here tonight. More rogues will come."

Lena glanced around uncertainly.

"Do you know somewhere safe?"

He studied her for a moment.

"Yes."

But Lena didn't know that following him would change her life forever.

The Rogue Territory

The place Kael brought her to was nothing like Lena expected.

When she imagined rogue wolves, she pictured chaos and violence.

But this place was organized.

Hidden between thick mountain cliffs was a small settlement. Wooden cabins stood neatly arranged, and guards patrolled the area carefully.

Dozens of wolves moved through the camp, but none of them looked like the savage monsters pack elders always warned about.

Instead, they looked… normal.

One of the guards approached Kael.

"Everything secure tonight?"

Kael nodded.

"Yes."

The guard noticed Lena.

"Who's she?"

"A guest."

The guard didn't question it.

He simply stepped aside respectfully.

Lena noticed something strange.

Everyone seemed to respect Kael.

Deeply.

"Is this your pack?" she asked quietly.

Kael shook his head.

"We're not a pack."

"Then what are you?"

He looked back at her with a faint smile.

"Survivors."

For the first time since leaving Silver Moon Pack, Lena felt something unexpected.

Maybe this place could become a new beginning.

New Strength

The next morning Lena woke to the sound of wolves training.

Curious, she stepped outside.

Several wolves were sparring in a large open clearing.

Their movements were fast and precise.

Kael stood nearby, watching them.

When he noticed Lena, he walked over.

"You should join them."

Lena blinked.

"Me?"

"You want to survive outside a pack, don't you?"

She nodded slowly.

"Then you need to become stronger."

Lena hesitated.

She had never been a strong fighter.

But something inside her stirred.

Maybe Damon had been wrong about her.

Maybe she just needed a chance to grow.

"Alright," she said.

Kael handed her a wooden training blade.

"Show me what you can do."

Lena gripped the blade nervously.

Then she stepped into the training circle.

And for the first time in her life…

She started learning how to fight.
