She was quiet for a moment. "I heard the gap contact," she said. "From the clinic access position. The impacts and the axe work and then the panel reseating." She paused. "I knew what it meant when the panel reseated."
"Yes," he said.
She looked at the pan. "I'm glad the panel reseated," she said, which was the most understated version of what she meant and she said it the way she said things she meant fully, without decoration.
He looked at her in the kitchen doing what she did and thought about thirty five days ago when she had come through the gate running with a wound in her side and a pipe in her hand and had made food the next morning because she didn't like taking up space.
She had filled exactly the right amount of space.
"Yuna," he said.
She looked at him.
"Thank you," he said. "For being in position."
She looked at him for a moment and then looked back at the pan. "Thank you for building a position worth being in," she said.
