Morning arrived with a clear sky.
Golden sunlight poured over the mountains of the Azure Cloud Sect, illuminating the white stone halls and winding stairways that connected the many terraces of the sect.
Disciples moved busily across the paths.
Some hurried toward training grounds.
Others carried wooden practice weapons or bundles of herbs.
Another ordinary day had begun.
At the far edge of the sect grounds, however, the Outer Sect Library remained as quiet as ever.
Inside the Archive Hall, Lin Mo carefully wiped dust from a wooden shelf.
He moved slowly and methodically, just as he had done every day since being assigned this position.
To anyone watching, he looked exactly the same as always.
A quiet, unremarkable library caretaker.
But inside his body, something had changed.
The faint pathway within his chest—the First Path—had grown slightly clearer after another night of quiet cultivation.
It was still weak.
Still fragile.
Yet the subtle warmth no longer faded as quickly as before.
Lin Mo finished cleaning the shelf and stepped down from the ladder.
He placed the cloth into a small bucket and glanced around the hall.
Rows of ancient books stretched endlessly into the shadows.
The Archive Hall remained empty.
Just as usual.
Or so he thought.
A moment later—
The wooden door creaked open.
Lin Mo turned his head.
A young figure stepped inside.
The sudden movement startled a few dust particles into the air.
It was a girl.
She looked about seventeen years old and wore the simple grey robes of an outer sect disciple. Her long black hair was tied behind her back, and a small jade pendant hung from her neck.
Her eyes moved curiously across the shelves.
It was clear she had never visited this place before.
Lin Mo watched quietly.
Very few disciples came to the Archive Hall. Most preferred the Cultivation Pavilion where they could search for martial manuals.
The girl walked slowly between the shelves, examining the books.
After a moment, she noticed Lin Mo standing near the ladder.
"Oh… someone is here," she said softly.
Lin Mo nodded politely.
"Yes."
The girl stepped closer.
"Are you the caretaker?"
Lin Mo gave a small nod.
"I am."
She looked slightly relieved.
"I've been to the Cultivation Pavilion before, but I didn't know there was another hall here."
"That happens often," Lin Mo replied calmly.
Most disciples never bothered with the Archive Hall.
The girl glanced around again, clearly curious.
"There are so many books here…"
Lin Mo followed her gaze.
"Most of them are historical records, travel journals, or philosophical writings."
"Not cultivation techniques?" she asked.
"Very few."
The girl seemed slightly disappointed.
She walked to one of the shelves and pulled out a thin book.
Dust puffed into the air when she opened it.
Lin Mo quietly returned to his work, giving her space.
A few minutes passed in silence.
Then the girl suddenly spoke again.
"Do people really read these?"
Lin Mo paused for a moment before answering.
"Some do."
She flipped through several pages before closing the book.
"My name is Su Yan," she said casually.
Lin Mo turned slightly.
"Lin Mo."
Su Yan studied him for a moment.
"You're an outer disciple too, right?"
"Yes."
"Then why are you working here instead of training?"
Lin Mo had expected that question.
"My cultivation talent is poor," he answered simply. "The elders thought this task suited me better."
Su Yan looked slightly surprised.
She glanced around the empty hall again.
"I guess it must be quiet here."
"It is."
"Doesn't it get boring?"
Lin Mo thought about that question briefly.
Before coming to this world, he might have answered differently.
But now…
"No," he said calmly.
Su Yan tilted her head slightly.
"That's strange."
Lin Mo did not respond.
After a few seconds, she laughed lightly.
"Well, I suppose someone has to take care of all these books."
She returned the volume to the shelf and dusted off her hands.
"I should probably go back to training before the instructor notices I'm missing."
Lin Mo nodded.
Su Yan walked toward the door but paused before leaving.
She turned back briefly.
"If I ever need information about something… can I come here?"
"Yes," Lin Mo replied.
"That's what the library is for."
She smiled.
"Good. I might visit again."
With that, she stepped outside and gently closed the door behind her.
The Archive Hall returned to silence.
Lin Mo stood quietly for a moment.
The first visitor.
Not unusual.
Yet something about the encounter lingered in his thoughts.
Perhaps it was simply because the Archive Hall had been empty for so long.
Or perhaps it was because Su Yan had looked at the books with genuine curiosity.
Either way, it made little difference.
Lin Mo returned to cleaning the shelves.
Outside, the sounds of training echoed faintly across the mountains once again.
And inside the quiet library…
The caretaker continued his work.
While hidden deep within his chest, the faint warmth of the First Path continued to grow—slowly, patiently, and completely unnoticed.
