"Boom!" The door to my hostel room slammed. My heart jumped. I dove under the bed, praying the cult members who had been after me wouldn't find me tonight.
Hi, my name is Hope Davidson. This is my story. From the moment I was born, tragedy never left me. I lost my mom during childbirth while my dad after he heard the news. Aunt 'Kathy' took me in after that, but it was clear she resented me. She needed house help and I was it.
"Badluck", she always calls me. Aunt Kathy has two kids (twins), both the same age as me. Being the odd one out in the house, I ended up attending a public school while they went to a private one.
But then luck finally came my way. I was given scholarship to the university, after I came out as the overall best student in my set. For the first time in my life, I felt a glimmer of hope. God's favour was by my side for once. My heart leapt with Joy that I kept on muttering to myself,
"Who said an orphan can't be a degree holder? Who said my story can't be rewritten?"
"Badluck" I heard my aunt screamed from the sitting room. My heart pondered, I could hear my own heartbeat. Knowing fully well what my aunt is capable of, I started shivering. "Ma" I slowly altered while dashing towards her before she call me twice. "Come here you witch" she screamed
"Ohh.. you haven't left yet and you are feeling this pompous already. Mind you, I rejected the offer on your behalf. You can't leave this house before my kids. You are a Badluck for crying out loud, things aren't meant to favour you. Now go to the backyard and wash those clothes I dropped there"
My whole world collapses that minutes. I stood there mute.
