Chapter 1 - chapter 1

Li Ming lay in his crib, his tiny body pale and frail, barely moving under the soft, golden blanket. Even at five years old, he looked more like a delicate doll than a living child, as if the slightest touch could break him. His parents hovered anxiously over him, their hearts heavy with years of worry.

"Li Ming… wake up, my baby," Zhang Mei whispered, her voice trembling as she brushed a lock of black hair from his forehead.

Li Wei's hands clenched into fists. "He's breathing… right? Tell me he's breathing," he said, his voice thick with desperation. Every sound, every movement from his youngest son felt like a victory, but also a reminder of how fragile life could be.

Zhang Mei's eyes filled with tears. "Remember when I was pregnant with him?" she said softly. "The doctors said… they said it was impossible. That he might not survive. That every day he lived would be a miracle."Li Wei swallowed hard. "And even now… he's only five, and still so weak. Always sick. Always needing care. I can't… I can't let him go."

Li Jun, the older brother, sat quietly in the corner, watching his family's distress. At twelve, he understood enough to feel the weight of it all. "Big brother… little brother… please… stay strong," he murmured.

The room was filled with the soft sounds of the mansion—the faint tick of the grandfather clock, the distant hum of the servants' work—but all felt muffled, as if the fragile boy in the crib absorbed every sound, every heartbeat. Li Ming coughed softly, and a shiver ran through his small frame.

Zhang Mei's lips quivered as she spoke again. "We've spent everything, Wei… every doctor in the world… every hospital… and yet… nothing has worked."

Li Wei's jaw tightened. "I've brought the best doctors from Europe… Japan… even America. None of them could help him. None!" His voice fell to a whisper. "And yet… he's still here. Alive… but so fragile."A tear slid down Zhang Mei's cheek as she knelt beside the crib, her hand trembling over her son's. "Every night, I pray he survives another day… every morning, I wake up hoping he's still with us."

Li Ming's small hand twitched slightly against the blanket, almost imperceptibly, and both parents leaned closer, their hearts tightening with both fear and hope.

Li Wei's voice softened, filled with determination. "We will find a way… somehow… no matter what it takes. I will not lose you, my son. Not now. Not ever."

For a moment, silence filled the room, heavy and fragile, broken only by the quiet breaths of a boy who had already survived miracles, yet remained so perilously close to the edge of life.
