The monastery was unusually silent that night. The wind howled outside, shaking the old trees as if echoing Michael's inner turmoil.

He lay on his bed, sweating, heart racing. The woman had entered his dreams again. She was no longer just whispering; she was rearranging his memories, bending them to her will.

A street Michael thought he knew transformed into something unfamiliar. Joseph's past life flickered like a distorted film:

Friends' faces melted into strangers' smirks.

The marketplace became a labyrinth.

Every choice he had made seemed rewritten.

— "You see… you never really left Joseph behind," she whispered, floating closer, her form shimmering with a dangerous allure.

— "But soon… even you will forget him."

Michael tried to speak:

— "Stop! I… I know who I am!"

Her laughter filled the room, echoing from the shadows:

— "Do you? Or am I about to show you who you truly are… without Joseph, without Michael… just a shell?"

Salim Enters

A sudden sound made him flinch. A shadow moved behind her, solid and real.

It was Salim. He stepped forward, tall and calm, eyes steady.

— "Enough," he said firmly.

The woman's eyes flickered. She turned to him, amused.

— "Ah… the protector. Came to play the hero, have you?"

Salim didn't move his gaze from her.

— "You can toy with his dreams, distort his memories… but you cannot touch his soul while I am here."

Michael felt a spark of hope.

— "Salim… what are you doing here?"

— "I warned you before," Salim said. "I've walked this path. I know what she does. And I know she has limits."

The woman laughed, but there was a hint of tension now.

— "Limits? Very amusing. He is already mine."

Salim stepped closer to Michael.

— "Not yet. The mind can be manipulated… but the heart? That is something only he can protect."

The Dream Battle

Suddenly, Michael felt himself lifted into the shifting dreamscape. He was standing in the twisted marketplace from his memories, but now Salim was beside him, calm and steady.

The woman's form loomed over the streets like a goddess of shadow, smiling cruelly.

— "You think you can stop me? He will belong to me soon."

Salim placed a hand on Michael's shoulder.

— "Focus. This is your mind. You must claim it. I can guide you, but you have to fight."

Images assaulted Michael: Joseph's memories dissolving, his own choices rewritten, voices of friends accusing him, distorted faces of the past.

But Salim's presence was like an anchor.

— "Remember who you were. Remember who you are now. She feeds on doubt and fear—do not give her either."

Michael took a deep breath. For the first time in weeks, he felt a thread of control.

— "I… am Michael. I… remember Joseph, and I am still me," he shouted, feeling power surge from somewhere deep inside.

The woman screamed, a sound that shook the dreamscape. Her form wavered.

— "No! This… cannot be!"

Salim nodded.

— "Yes. This can. As long as you fight."

A Fragile Victory

The dreamscape began to fade. The twisted streets melted back into shadows, and Michael felt himself lying in his bed again.

The woman's voice was now distant, faint, like a whisper through a keyhole:

— "This is only the beginning…"

Salim knelt beside Michael, placing a steadying hand on his shoulder.

— "You have taken the first step. She cannot break you completely while you still fight."

Michael's chest heaved. For the first time, he believed there was a way to resist.

Salim whispered quietly:

— "Tomorrow, she will return stronger. But you… you are not alone anymore."

And Michael realized: the battle for his memories, his mind, and his identity was no longer his alone—Salim had become his shield, and together they might survive the darkness to come.
