Chapter 7 - Chapter 7:Whispers That Ache

{ Don't die... please don't do this again }

"Who are you? Are you a relative of hers?"

"Step back a little, let us work!"

"If the bleeding continues like this, we won't have time!"

"She's losing consciousness!"

"Bring the injection, quickly!"

"Stay with me… can you hear me? Stay awake!"

"Get her inside, quickly!"

"Hurry, hurry!"

"Sir, please wait here."

I sat with Miyar on one of the waiting chairs.

She kept crying and asking me if her sister would be okay.

"She will be fine. Don't worry… your sister is strong."

One hour later

Between the voices of people and the hurried footsteps of nurses, I felt nothing.

I couldn't see anything… except that moment repeating itself before my eyes.

[Run away... Kenjin...]

When my father stabbed my mother in the stomach with a broken bottle. I was still a child back then. She had tried to stop him from taking the rent money to buy more alcohol. But he was drunk.

The look in his eyes…

The coldness of my mother's hand…

The pool of blood…

[Perhaps that was the moment I was born again… as a demon who knows nothing about humanity.]

I remember running away from the house into the streets with no destination.

I spent that night sleeping outside, too afraid to return home.

In the morning, I gathered my courage and went back.

The police were inside the house… along with my uncle.

After countless interrogations, they took me to psychological therapy sessions.

What I witnessed that night was something a child under ten should never see.

But what was the point…?

It was already too late.

Not long after everything ended, I heard that my father had been found dead in a forest outside the city.

Apparently… he couldn't bear what he had done.

But… who cares?

{ Don't die... please don't do this again }

"Are you one of her relatives?"

The question suddenly interrupted my thoughts.

"Yes… is she okay?"

"Her condition is stable now, but she needs rest."

"Can I see her?"

"You may, but please don't talk too much with her."

"Alright… thank you."

I carried Miyar and we entered Rina's hospital room.

They told me her condition was stable, but the pain and exhaustion were clear on her face.

Miyar ran toward her sister and started talking to her excitedly.

But Rina looked too tired… she didn't seem to have the strength to speak yet.

"Don't bother your sister, Miyar. She needs to rest now."

I sat there quietly, looking at her.

What a miserable world…

Does everyone have to suffer like this?

And how many families have been destroyed because of my greed?

["The kind judge… the servant of money."]

It seems there is no hope left for my life.

I wanted to change…

But maybe I simply can't.

It's as if the world refuses to accept me as anything other than what I already am.

...Damn it.

"Come on, Miyar. Let's let your sister rest. We'll visit her again tomorrow."

She hesitated to leave, but I eventually convinced her.

I held her in my arms and opened the door.

At that moment, a weak voice filled the room.

"Thank you… for everything. You saved my life."

"It's nothing. Just rest."

We left the hospital and returned home.

The maid welcomed Miyar warmly. She cleaned her up, dressed her in the clothes I bought, fed her, and played with her until she eventually fell asleep.

Even in her sleep, she kept whispering one name.

"Rina…"

I picked up my phone.

There was something that needed to be settled.

I called a police commander I had dealt with before.

I told him I wanted a certain criminal in prison to be eliminated.

He refused.

He said it could cause problems if the news spread, and that he couldn't do something like that.

"...He raped little children, Commander. Where was that humanity you're preaching to me when those children were crying and begging you not to release him?"

"The documents I obtained after the case are still with me. I don't care if I expose them… and drag you down with me."

"In the end, I'll be executed anyway."

"I don't care if I die."

"But you'll be going to hell with me."

"Just do what I told you. Spare me the empty humanity."

"...Fine. You'll have it your way."

About two hours later, he sent me a picture to confirm the man's identity based on the description I gave him.

I don't think even half an hour passed before he sent another message.

The man was dead.

This is the least I could do… to avenge Rina.

...

Honestly… the fact that no one has tried to kill me yet after everything I've done is terrifying.

It seems I lived like a demon who never feared death… without even realizing it.

Tomorrow I'm supposed to return to work.

But I'll ask for two more days off after what happened.

I need to fix things first.

Otherwise…

my last chance to change…

will disappear.
