Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Mafia Victor, born in the West Blue village of Kori in the year 1495 of the Haiyuan Calendar, came from a small fishing village where the people relied mainly on the sea for their livelihood.

Mafia Victor's father, Mafia Cassio, was a simple fisherman. He was a quiet man who kept to himself and lived an honest life. Ever since his beloved wife died during childbirth while giving birth to Victor, Cassio poured all of his love and attention into raising his son.

Before the age of seven, Victor's life was simple and peaceful.

Influenced by his father's gentle nature, he rarely fought or caused trouble. He was mild-tempered, though somewhat quiet. His only hobbies were accompanying his father out to sea to fish and reading books.

However, Victor had a small secret.

Ever since he could remember, he would occasionally hear strange voices echoing directly inside his mind.

Victor once told his father about it, but after visiting several doctors, none of them could find any explanation. In order to stop his father from worrying further, Victor told the first lie of his life—he claimed the voices had disappeared.

In truth…

He could hear them even more clearly.

In the year 1502 of the Haiyuan Calendar, Victor and his father set out to sea as usual to fish.

But the ocean was as fickle as a jealous lover.

One moment it was calm and peaceful—the next, a storm descended.

The sky darkened as violent lightning streaked through thick black clouds. Their small fishing boat was tossed helplessly between towering waves and roaring winds.

At that moment, Mafia Cassio, the great father, stuffed his son into the only empty wooden barrel on the boat. Gathering the last of his strength, he threw the barrel far into the raging sea.

"My dear Victor… a person only has one destiny in their life."

"My destiny has arrived. Your mother has come to take me."

"But you still have hope."

"You must live on."

Moments later, a massive wave swallowed the lonely fishing boat whole.

When Victor woke up, he found himself lying inside the clinic of Kori Village.

The doctor explained that passing fishermen had discovered him unconscious near the shore, surrounded by scattered fragments of a wooden barrel.

Unfortunately…

Cassio was nowhere to be found.

Victor neither cried nor screamed.

Ignoring the doctor's attempts to stop him, he left the clinic and returned home.

He sat silently on the steps in front of his house.

His heart was filled with grief, yet he couldn't shed a single tear.

Anger boiled within him, but he had nowhere to direct it.

Eventually, exhaustion overtook him, and he curled up on the steps and fell asleep.

That night, Victor had a dream.

A long, strange dream.

In the dream, he was born into a peaceful and prosperous country with parents who loved him deeply. Although there were occasional wars in that world, those troubles were far removed from his daily life.

He had a name—but he could not remember it.

His parents raised him with care and affection, though their faces were blurred and indistinct.

The version of himself in that dream had little ambition. He spent most of his time at home watching anime.

On his fifteenth birthday, after finishing a comic book, he lay down on his bed and closed his eyes.

When he opened them again…

He found himself staring at the familiar yet unfamiliar steps of his home.

He had returned.

It took Victor two full days to organize his thoughts.

He could no longer tell which world had been the dream and which was reality.

But one thing was certain.

A seed called ambition had begun to grow inside his heart.

So I wasn't sick after all.

That voice… it was actually a rare power known as Observation Haki.

And this world… this is the world of One Piece!

If I know the story of this world, then I too have the qualifications to stand at its very peak.

However, Victor soon discovered subtle differences between this world and the manga he remembered.

For example—

Two months later, Victor discovered a small pink-haired girl drifting near the shore. Her parents had died in a shipwreck, and she had survived by clinging to a piece of floating wood.

The girl's name was Perona.

Victor scratched his head in confusion.

According to the original story he remembered, Perona should have been adopted by the famous pirate Gecko Moria when she was young.

But looking at the crying little girl before him, Victor couldn't bring himself to abandon her.

Was he supposed to gamble on when—or even if—Moria might pass by this island?

At that moment, Victor seemed to hear his father's final words again.

A person only has one destiny.

"…Alright."

Victor crouched down in front of the crying girl.

"Perona… would you like to live with me?"

"From now on, I'll be your family."

The pink-haired girl, her face covered with tears, looked at the gentle young boy kneeling before her.

For some reason, she suddenly felt less afraid.

"…Okay… p-please take care of me, big brother."

The thin boy held the little girl's hand and led her toward the village clinic.

Several hours later, a black pirate ship with a skull-shaped figurehead appeared near the coast.

"Boss Moria! What's wrong?" one of the sailors shouted toward a tall man leaning against the railing.

The man had brown onion-shaped hair and a tall, muscular body. Two horns protruded from the sides of his head, and cross-shaped stitches marked his forehead. He wore an elaborate gothic-style shirt.

After glancing once more at the empty beach, he burst into laughter.

"Foshfoshfosh! What beautiful weather! I feel like steering the ship today! Let me take the helm!"

"N-No, Captain!! Absalom, stop the captain! If he steers the ship again we'll have to repair it all over again!"

"When the captain gets stubborn no one can stop him! Hey! Idiot captain, turn the wheel—we're going to crash!"

"Foshfoshfosh! Don't worry! Leave it to me!"

The noisy black pirate ship gradually sailed away.

Strangely enough, fate had quietly taken a different turn at that moment.

Several years passed.

The villagers gradually became familiar with the newest member of Victor's household—the cheerful little girl Perona.

She had rather unusual interests.

She loved dark decorations and gothic-style music.

In the second year after adopting Perona, Victor discovered that she was a Devil Fruit user.

Her ability was the Ghost-Ghost Fruit.

Victor had to spend a great deal of effort comforting her before she finally stopped crying. It turned out she had always believed herself to be strange and feared Victor would reject her if he discovered her ghost abilities.

Victor patiently explained what Devil Fruits were.

At the same time, this reminded him that it was time for him to begin searching for a Devil Fruit suitable for himself.

Over the years, Victor's once unstable Observation Haki gradually became more reliable.

At the same time, this innate ability began revealing its terrifying potential.

Victor's Observation Haki possessed both wide range and extreme precision.

But more importantly, it had a special effect:

Apocalypse.

This heaven-given Observation Haki allowed Victor to concentrate on a specific object.

When he did, information about that object would naturally appear in his mind—like a revelation from the heavens.

Although it consumed a great deal of stamina, for Victor—who had never seen a Devil Fruit encyclopedia—it was an extraordinary gift.

In 1506, Victor learned about the Chain-Chain Fruit through a newspaper while training in seclusion on the island.

Everyone else mocked the fruit as useless.

But Victor was stunned.

Yes… he had definitely seen this ability before.

After thinking carefully, Victor realized the power was extremely similar to the Stand ability Sticky Fingers used by Bruno Bucciarati in the manga JoJo's Bizarre Adventure that he had seen in his dream.

Victor rarely experienced such excitement.

If he obtained this fruit, he could definitely make it shine.

Unfortunately, the fruit disappeared after the Marine officer who had eaten it died.

Still—

Victor felt certain that his destiny was tied to that fruit.

A person only has one destiny in life.

Four years later, Victor secretly entered the largest underground black market auction in the West Blue to see whether any Devil Fruits were being sold.

Coincidentally, Talma Pippin, the leader of the Coral organization, had just obtained a Devil Fruit and placed it up for auction.

The moment Victor saw it from the audience, his special Observation Haki immediately confirmed it.

It was the very fruit he had been searching for—

The Chain-Chain Fruit.

After learning about the fruit's awkward situation in Pippin's possession, Victor made a decision.

He and Perona would join the Coral organization.

It was a carefully calculated plan.

In the short term, Victor had two goals.

The Chain-Chain Fruit.

And the position of leader of Coral.

Stealing or robbing the fruit would have been beneath him.

There was only one path.

Join Coral.

Earn enough achievements to obtain the fruit as a reward.

Then defeat Pippin in a fair one-on-one battle and claim leadership of the organization without breaking any rules.

At the same time, Victor could use his wide-range Observation Haki to monitor Pippin's treasury and ensure that no one else consumed the fruit first.

Victor's decision proved correct.

After joining the gang, constant combat caused his strength to grow rapidly.

He also discovered that his physical strength and endurance were far beyond normal humans.

Although his body looked ordinary, it contained astonishing power.

Finally—

Two years later—

Victor had obtained both the Chain-Chain Fruit and the position of leader of Coral.

And the appearance of the two rival gang leaders on the battlefield had also been part of his plan.

He intended to use this opportunity to eliminate the other two major underworld leaders of the West Blue.

With their defeat—

The entire underground world of the West Blue would belong to him.

"Hehehehe… Big Brother Victor, if we defeat those two old men, will that complete the first stage of our plan?"

The playful pink-haired girl slowly descended beside Victor, spinning her parasol casually as if the two powerful gang leaders standing opposite them were nothing more than insects.

"That's right."

Victor's gaze was calm.

"A person only has one destiny, Perona."

"And our destiny…"

"…is to stand at the very top of the world."

"Kill them."
