Chapter 1 - The Billionaire’s One-Year Marriage

In the busy streets of Kolkata, where small tea stalls and shops stood beside tall buildings, lived a simple shopkeeper named Maya. She owned a tiny grocery shop inherited from her father. Life wasn't easy, but Maya was kind, hardworking, and respected by everyone in the neighborhood.

One rainy evening, a black luxury car stopped near her shop. Out stepped Arjun Mehra, one of the richest businessmen in India. His company, Mehra Global, was worth billions. Yet behind his success was a complicated personal life.

Arjun needed a wife.

Not for love—but for a contract.

His grandfather had left a condition in the family inheritance: Arjun must be married for at least one year to fully control the company. If he didn't marry, the board would take control of his empire.

But Arjun didn't believe in love. Every relationship he had seen was full of betrayal and greed.

So he decided to find someone simple, honest, and far from the world of wealth.

That's how he met Maya.

Arjun visited Maya's shop several times, pretending to be a normal customer. He noticed her honesty—she returned extra money customers accidentally gave her and helped poor people even when she barely had enough herself.

One day he told her the truth.

"I want to marry you," Arjun said calmly.

Maya almost dropped the tea glass in her hand.

"Excuse me?" she said.

"It will only be for one year," he explained. "A contract marriage. After one year, we divorce. In return, I'll give you enough money to secure your future."

Maya refused immediately.

But later she discovered her shop was in danger. A developer wanted to demolish the area, and she had no money to fight the legal battle.

Reluctantly… she agreed.

They signed the contract.

365 days.

Then divorce.

Maya moved into Arjun's huge mansion. Everything there felt unreal—servants, luxury cars, marble floors, and giant chandeliers.

But Maya remained the same simple girl.

She cooked for the staff, talked kindly with everyone, and treated Arjun not like a billionaire—but like a normal person.

At first, Arjun found it annoying.

Then… refreshing.

Slowly, their relationship changed.

They started having dinner together.

They laughed at small jokes.

Maya even scolded Arjun when he worked too much.

For the first time in years, Arjun felt peace.

The Problem

Months passed quickly.

One night Maya found the contract again.

Only 20 days left.

Her heart felt heavy.

She realized something dangerous…

She had fallen in love with her fake husband.

But a contract is a contract.

And Arjun had never believed in love.

Exactly one year later, the divorce papers were ready.

They sat in silence in Arjun's office.

Maya forced a smile.

"Well… one year is over."

Arjun looked at the papers but didn't sign.

Instead, he quietly tore them in half.

Maya stared at him in shock.

"I made that contract because I didn't believe in love," Arjun said softly. "But you proved me wrong."

He held her hand.

"So… will you marry me again?"

"This time… without a contract."

Tears filled Maya's eyes as she smiled.

"Yes."

And the marriage that started as a business deal became something far more valuable—

A real love story.
