Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 – The Day Love Was Discovered

Winter had arrived early in the small village of Eloria. Snow covered the narrow roads and the wooden rooftops of the houses, making the entire village look calm and peaceful. Smoke slowly rose from chimneys as families gathered inside their homes, warming themselves beside fireplaces.

Outside the village, near a frozen river surrounded by silent trees, a girl sat beneath a tall leafless tree.

Her name was Lira.

Snowflakes gently rested on her hair as she stared at the pale gray sky above. Anyone passing by would think she was simply enjoying the quiet beauty of winter.

But Lira was not there to admire the snow.

She was waiting.

The forest was silent except for the distant sound of wind moving through the branches. After a few minutes, another sound appeared.

Footsteps.

Crunching softly through the snow.

Lira smiled before even turning around.

She already knew who it was.

A familiar voice spoke behind her.

"You always choose the coldest place to meet."

Lira turned slowly and saw the person she had been waiting for.

Asha.

Asha walked toward her confidently. Her clothes looked rougher than those of most villagers, and her hair was tied loosely behind her head. There was a wild strength in the way she moved, like someone who belonged more in a battlefield than in a quiet village.

But whenever she looked at Lira, that strength softened.

"You came," Lira said gently.

Asha sat beside her and brushed some snow from her shoulder.

"Of course I came. When you call me, I always come."

Lira laughed softly. The sound was warm and gentle in the cold air.

For a few moments they sat quietly together, watching the frozen river in front of them. The water beneath the ice moved slowly, almost like time itself was flowing silently beneath the surface.

Asha finally broke the silence.

"You shouldn't keep meeting me like this," she said. "If someone sees us again, the rumors will only get worse."

Lira lowered her eyes slightly.

"They already have."

Asha frowned.

"You mean people already know?"

"I heard them whispering yesterday in the market."

"What were they saying?"

Lira hesitated for a moment before answering.

"They said our relationship is unnatural."

Asha clenched her fists slightly.

The word felt heavy in the cold air.

Unnatural.

To Lira, their love felt gentle and pure. It felt like the warm sunlight after a long winter.

But to the world around them, it was something forbidden.

Asha looked toward the frozen river, her expression darkening.

"We could leave," she said suddenly.

Lira looked surprised.

"Leave the village?"

"Yes. Somewhere far away. Somewhere people don't know us."

Lira watched the snow slowly falling between the trees.

"Do you really think a place like that exists?"

Asha didn't answer.

Deep inside, she wasn't sure.

The world was large, but hatred had a strange way of appearing everywhere.

Lira gently leaned her head against Asha's shoulder.

"Asha… can I ask you something?"

"Anything."

"Do you regret loving me?"

Asha turned toward her immediately.

"What kind of question is that?"

"A serious one."

Asha looked into her eyes for a long moment before answering.

"I regret many things in life," she said quietly. "But loving you is not one of them."

She reached out and held Lira's cold hands between her own.

"If loving you is a sin," Asha continued softly, "then it's the only sin I'm proud of."

Lira's eyes filled with quiet warmth.

Sometimes love begins with excitement and passion.

But sometimes it grows slowly between two hearts until one day they realize they cannot live without each other.

That was how their love had begun.

With small conversations.

Shared smiles.

Silent understanding.

Until eventually their hearts belonged to each other completely.

But the world around them did not see beauty in their love.

It only saw something that broke its rules.

Inside the village hall, several men sat around a large wooden table.

They were members of the religious sect that controlled Eloria.

One of the men slammed his fist against the table.

"The rumors are true."

Another man looked up.

"You're certain?"

"Yes. Several villagers saw them together again near the river."

The room became silent.

At the end of the table sat the leader of the sect, an older man with cold and emotionless eyes.

After a moment he finally spoke.

"This behavior cannot be allowed to continue."

One of the younger members asked quietly, "What should we do?"

The old man's answer came without hesitation.

"Prepare the soldiers."

Back near the frozen river, Lira suddenly felt a strange chill in her chest.

She slowly lifted her head.

"Asha…"

"What is it?"

"I feel like something bad is about to happen."

Asha stood up and looked around the forest.

At first everything seemed normal.

Then she heard something.

Footsteps.

Not one person.

Many.

The sound of armor moving.

Branches breaking.

Torches appeared between the trees in the distance.

Voices echoed through the forest.

"Search the river area!"

"Don't let them escape!"

Lira's hands began trembling.

"They found us."

Asha pulled a small dagger from her belt and stepped in front of Lira.

"Stay behind me."

"There are too many of them," Lira whispered.

"I know."

"Then what will you do?"

Asha turned back toward her and smiled gently.

"I'll buy us enough time to run."

Because sometimes love stories don't end with happy escapes.

Sometimes they end with blood on the snow.

And on that cold winter night, under a silent sky filled with falling snow, the world was about to destroy two people whose only crime was loving each other.
