Chapter 8 - Wish

The Soul-Devouring Demon, one of the eight hundred types of demons on Qingyuan Star, is a very common type of spiritual demon.

Its form is ethereal and uncertain, resembling a ghost.

It often appears as a shadow, fond of devouring the souls of mortals.

A voice emanated eerily from the shadow, saying:

"Humble mortal, I am the great Kevin... uh... a first-rank Blood Clan Baron?!"

It hadn't even finished speaking.

Two cyan-blue eyes appeared on the shadow, rolling around as they looked at Meng Yan, clearly having recognized his identity.

In the transcendent world, all transcendent beings can be divided into first to seventh ranks according to their strength level.

For each rank, the names used by different transcendent races vary.

For example, the Blood Clan: Baron, Viscount, Count, Marquis, Duke, Prince, Emperor. These seven titles correspond to ranks one to seven.

Another example is demons: Ordinary, Lesser, Intermediate, Greater, Lord, Demon King, Demon Lord. These also correspond to ranks one to seven, respectively.

Transcendent races like werewolves, Evil Spirits, and so on, all have their own racial rank titles.

This Soul-Devouring Demon named Kevin Dune was an ordinary demon, at the first-rank level.

Seeing that it was a Blood Clan Baron who summoned him,

He said in a very displeased tone, "Blood Clan, why do you summon me?"

A demon of his level could only deceive ordinary mortals, using various tricks to coax them into voluntarily offering their delicious souls.

Facing the Blood Clan, who were also transcendent beings, it wasn't so easy to fool them.

Meng Yan, relying on his powerful Spiritual Power, had already sensed that what he had summoned was indeed a first-rank ordinary Soul-Devouring Demon.

While sighing in relief, he bowed slightly and said with a smile:

"Respected Sir Kevin Dune, I summoned you, naturally, hoping you would fulfill my wish.

The notes on that summoning ritual said you could grant all the summoner's wishes."

The Soul-Devouring Demon Kevin Dune sneered, saying:

"That's just a mortal's delusion. I never made such a promise."

Then, he looked at Meng Yan with a somewhat strange gaze and said:

"However, if you choose to offer your soul.

If I devour your soul, you and I will merge into one.

Then, your wish will be my wish, and I will naturally do my best to help you fulfill it."

Saying things he himself didn't believe, Kevin Dune secretly activated the magic runes, preparing to return.

He already felt something was amiss.

A Blood Clan of the top Baron level suddenly chose to use a mortal's ritual to summon a demon.

How could it genuinely be for the sake of fulfilling a wish?

Meng Yan's gaze sharpened, and he stopped with the pleasantries.

He felt the fluctuation of magic. This Soul-Devouring Demon wanted to escape!

How could he tolerate the duck he had painstakingly cooked flying away after he had summoned the demon?

At the very least, his wish must be granted first.

His wish was very simple.

Absorb this spiritual demon!

His figure flickered, quickly appearing before Kevin Dune, then he suddenly extended his hand forward.

At this moment, Kevin Dune had completely activated the magic runes for returning.

He would be able to return to the Demon Realm in about one second.

The Demon Realm is one of Qingyuan Star's subsidiary minor realms, a gathering place for demons.

Most of the eight hundred types of demons on Qingyuan Star originated from there.

Kevin Dune's shadow body became increasingly ethereal, on the verge of leaving this place.

Just then, Meng Yan's hand finally touched Kevin Dune's body.

Meng Yan's speed was very fast; he had already touched the shadow before Kevin Dune could even react.

Kevin Dune stared blankly at Meng Yan's hand, which had suddenly appeared within his shadow body.

He felt a powerful suction force emanating from the Blood Clan's hand.

Although the magic runes had been activated, the connection between him and the Demon Realm had been forcibly severed by this suction force.

Then, Kevin Dune's consciousness plunged into endless darkness.

The moment Meng Yan touched Kevin Dune, he activated the power of his divinity.

The shadow in front of him instantly vanished.

Only some unknown powder was left on the ground.

Meng Yan closed his eyes, silently experiencing the changes within his divinity.

Having absorbed the soul power of this spiritual demon, the part of the divinity belonging to him was nourished.

His control increased a little more.

His Spiritual Power sensing range expanded to two hundred meters in radius.

A sensing range of one hundred to one thousand meters is the Spiritual Power level of a second-rank Blood Clan Viscount.

His Spiritual Power successfully broke through to the Blood Clan Viscount level.

With his Spiritual Power breaking through the bottleneck, the subsequent increase in physical strength and Blood Core energy level would be relatively easier.

As long as he calmly absorbed the pure energy released by the divinity, he could become a Blood Clan Viscount without any hindrance.

A large amount of memory images flashed rapidly through Meng Yan's mind.

Those were the memories of Kevin Dune's life.

With these memories, he could easily learn the demonic language.

The three parchment manuscripts written in the demonic language would then become useful.

However, there was no rush for that yet, as there were still two spiritual demon summoning rituals unused.

Meng Yan called John and had him bring a few death row inmates to clean the room.

These death row inmates were usually kept in the ancient castle.

John always instructed them to do the dirty and arduous tasks.

After all, it was impossible for John alone to manage such a large ancient castle.

Having these death row inmates was making good use of them.

And in front of John, who possessed one-tenth the strength of an ordinary Blood Clan Baron, these death row inmates dared not resist at all.

If they didn't resist, although they would occasionally be bled and had to do some chores, at least they could survive.

Resistance meant only death.

Especially after witnessing John crush a vicious serial killer with his bare hands, these death row inmates became even more obedient to John's commands.

Meng Yan had no sympathy for these scumbags and let John handle them however he wished.

Even if they all died, he could simply replace them later.

In this world, the one thing least lacking was heinous criminals.

The quiet room was quickly cleaned.

After John and the death row inmates who had been brought in for labor had all left the room,

Meng Yan picked up a parchment manuscript, looked at it, and then walked towards the wooden cabinet on his left.

He was preparing to initiate the ritual to summon the second spiritual demon.

Opening the wooden cabinet, it was still filled with various messy and strange items.

Following the parchment manuscript, he meticulously placed each item in its correct position.

He drew the summoning runes.

He recited the summoning incantation for the spiritual demon.

After a very stylish incantation was finished,

The summoning runes on the ground quickly lit up.

Meng Yan's eyes showed anticipation as he looked at the strange and mysterious lit-up runes.

Suddenly.

Pfft!

The runes on the ground had just lit up when they abruptly extinguished.

The various summoning ritual materials around remained motionless.

Meng Yan's expression darkened.

Such a situation could only mean two possibilities.

One was that there was a problem with the summoning ritual itself, perhaps the summoning runes were drawn incorrectly, or the summoning materials were misplaced, or the summoning incantation was recited wrongly.

The other was that the spiritual demon corresponding to the summoning ritual had died for an unknown reason, and thus naturally could not be summoned.
