Chapter 182 - Chapter 184: Stabilizing the Front

Guilliman's Omegon Legion was indeed ferocious.

Not only had it firmly seized the initiative in the void war, it was also striking everywhere at once, beating the other Legions until they were miserable.

But soon, the Primarchs reacted.

Ferrus in particular, as one of the strongest contenders for the position of Imperial Warmaster, quickly combined summaries and intelligence reports to analyze the enemy's weakness.

It was still that damned distance!

Ferrus discovered that Guilliman and the Omegon Legion could not move too far away from the Macragge's Honour. Otherwise, like a communications signal, they would suddenly disconnect.

Combined with the information Bruce had provided regarding the Warp and Chaos daemons, Ferrus could basically determine where the true problem lay.

"Heh! Nothing but a fox borrowing the tiger's might. I thought the Five Hundred Worlds of Ultramar had truly come attacking."

Ferrus looked at the battle line on the star map gradually coming under control and gave a disdainful smile.

After his integration and redeployment, the various war zones across Isstvan V had gradually stabilized. There were even faint signs of a counterattack.

If the command chain was broken, then rebuild it!

If the communication network had problems, then use the most primitive messengers!

If the enemy's offensive was ferocious, then strike back!

In short, Ferrus had no intention of indulging Guilliman at all. Battles that needed to be fought would be fought, damn it.

As for that extremely bizarre Macragge's Honour, they would avoid touching it as much as possible.

Because Mortarion had already invested nearly one-fifth of his warship strength against it and reached a conclusion—

It could not be fought.

Although they had no way to deal with it, likewise, it had no way to deal with them. In other words, if the situation turned into an attrition war, they were currently not panicking.

"Even so, we won't be able to hold for too long, right? Is there really any need to waste precious troops and resources in this damned place?"

Bruce gave his opinion.

As a firm believer in "strategic retreat," Bruce genuinely did not want to confront this Guilliman head-on. The gains simply were not worth the losses.

He had come over by drawing Warp energy and borrowing the blessings of the Four Gods. Why should they fight a guy using cheats?

Avoiding battle was the optimal choice.

They would be better off preserving their strength and splitting into two forces. One route would go to Holy Terra and form a defensive line. No matter how terrifying Guilliman was, there was no way he could punch through the entire defense line alone and meet the Emperor.

The other route would go to Ultramar, both to investigate the situation and to prepare the real Guilliman.

Then, with both sides attacking at once, would they still fail to take down a mere Guilliman?

"So long as we know that they are hollow inside, that is enough."

Ferrus said dismissively:

"This is the first time I have ever seen an opponent like this."

"If we retreat this time and fail to gather enough experience, then what happens if we encounter such an opponent again during the Great Crusade?"

"Do we retreat again?"

"Our lives may be preserved, but the Imperium's territory will be gone!"

Faced with Ferrus's questions, Bruce thought about it carefully, then immediately lost his temper and could only nod in agreement.

Putting aside his god's-eye view, Ferrus's actions and thoughts were not wrong. In fact, they deserved support.

After all, practice was the source of truth.

Furthermore, Ferrus had indeed stabilized the battle line and reassembled the various Legions' warriors from their chaotic state. From this perspective, Guilliman and the Omegon Legion were actually not that overwhelming.

If they had not taken the initiative with a surprise attack, plus the unknown advantage granted by Chaos power, then in a proper blade-to-blade fight, who would win and who would lose was not necessarily certain.

"Besides..."

Ferrus frowned tightly and said:

"When the Word Bearers Legion faced the assault of this strange power, they relied on maintaining loyalty and faith toward Father. As a result, they were affected the least. This is worth promoting."

As a pragmatist, Ferrus had to consider having everyone begin imitating the Word Bearers.

Although this violated the Imperial Truth, it truly worked!

From Ferrus's point of view, shouting "For the Emperor!" a few times and then steadily suppressing inner demons seemed rather fantastical.

But it was undeniable that this was currently the fastest way to restore morale.

Question the Word Bearers.

Understand the Word Bearers.

Comprehend the Word Bearers.

Imitate the Word Bearers.

This was Ferrus's current mental journey.

"But... is there really a need? Do we truly need to fight the enemy in this place that is obviously a cesspit?"

After thinking it over from left to right, Bruce still decided to try persuading Ferrus again.

"Since we already know that Guilliman and his soldiers cannot move too far away from the Macragge's Honour, then naturally, avoiding battle as soon as possible and letting him consume himself should be the correct course of action, right?"

"This is Isstvan V, the place we chose to strangle the rebels. Since he, Guilliman, dares come here, then we kill him as well!"

Ferrus said, filled with fighting spirit:

"I have no reason to retreat!"

"If you think there is no need, you may leave first. I will have no complaints. And..."

At this point, Ferrus glanced from the corner of his eye at Fulgrim, who was still unconscious, and clenched his fist.

"I need you to confirm something. Something about Guilliman. Whether he has truly fallen, or whether some clown is impersonating him—someone has to investigate."

In Ferrus's view, this division of labor was completely reasonable. He would be responsible for holding back or attempting to annihilate Guilliman, while Bruce would go to Ultramar to confirm the situation.

If the issue was merely Chaos, then things would become simple all at once. Gather every Legion and beat the bastard to death!

But if Guilliman and Ultramar had truly fallen, then it would be a nightmare. The Imperium of Man would inevitably move toward an unknown decline.

"Fine..."

Seeing that this Primarch was so insistent, Bruce could not really continue persuading him.

Besides, under Ferrus's command, Guilliman's offensive had indeed slowed considerably. Everyone had gone from panic to adaptation, and now they were even beginning to counterattack.

Everything was developing in a good direction.

This also proved one thing from the side: even though this apocryphal Guilliman had seemingly eaten the blessings of the Four Gods and had the Warp helping him cheat, in the material universe of the 30th millennium, he was still subject to many restrictions.

Otherwise, he would not now be pinned down by the reorganized allied forces, his advancing battle line becoming nearly immobile.

"Hm?"

During their conversation, Ferrus suddenly heard footsteps. A jump-pack-equipped Iron Hands Astartes came running over.

Because the communication network had completely collapsed, every order now had to be transmitted by messengers. Although this caused a certain delay, that was not much of a problem for the Astartes.

Even without orders from above, these war machines knew what they should do, and how to organize a battle line or an attack.

"Father! We have established contact with Lord Corax and Lord Vulkan! They are gathering toward us! They are expected to complete regrouping within half a Terran day!"

"Excellent!"

Upon hearing this good news, a smile finally appeared on Ferrus's stern face.

The fact that they were gathering toward him represented two pieces of news.

First, they had excellently completed the mission of clearing out traitors.

Second, even if Guilliman became furious and launched a decapitation strike next, they would have the strength to fight.

No matter how powerful that fellow was, could he fight one against three?

Moreover, the Night Lords Primarch Curze and the World Eaters Primarch Angron could also rush over at any time.

After all, their leverage was in my hands.

Would you dare not come?

"Sergeant, did you give them the things I asked you to deliver?"

Bruce immediately asked.

According to the command sequence, Bruce held second priority. Therefore, the gathered officers from the various Legions nearby showed no reaction to Bruce's "intrusion."

The Primarch himself had said nothing, after all!

"The items you entrusted to me have already been given to them. It is just... the lords do not know what they are used for."

"It does not matter. They will know soon."

Bruce took out the paper cups printed with Duck King and Black Uncle, then handed one of them to Ferrus.

Ferrus had once used this to contact Mortarion, so he naturally knew its function. After receiving it, he immediately began calling.

It was just a shame that there were too few of such useful things. Otherwise, Ferrus truly would have wanted to use them to replace inefficient messengers.

"Corax, can you hear me?"

"Hm? Another daemon's voice? Damn it!"

"It is not a daemon, you fool! I am Ferrus! This paper cup was given to you by that fellow called Bruce Wayne!"

"Ferrus? Heavens. This little thing can really transmit speech? How does it work?"

"Do not worry about that for now. There are some things I need to synchronize with you. I will organize a counterattack, but this requires your cooperation."

"Speak. I am listening."

"Lord Vulkan, can you hear me?"

"Oh? Bruce? I did not expect this thing to truly function as a communicator. How exactly does it work?"

"Golden Age technology. Do not dwell on that for now. We need to discuss the enemy."

"Using this? The enemy will not be able to eavesdrop on our conversation?"

"In theory, no. Trust it."

"Very well. Speak, then."

Faced with paper cups that suddenly emitted voices, the two reacted differently.

Corax first suspected whether this was a daemon's trick, while Vulkan was curious about the technological aspect of it.

But regardless of who it was, both quickly accepted the paper cups and patiently listened to the next deployment.

At this moment, no matter who they were, everyone was holding in a belly full of rage.

They had to beat the hell out of Guilliman!
