Chapter 12 - Getting back to business

One Month Later

A construction site in the middle of Musutafu was in full development. Workers in hard hats moved between half-finished metal frames, using power tools and regular tools.

Cranes swung loads of materials through the air, setting them at the edge of the metal fence.

John, in his mech suit, lifted metal bars off a flatbed truck. Two weeks ago, on his first job using the mech, the workers and the people who hired the Uraraka couple had been surprised, thinking how a mech was supposed to be part of the job?

It took time to convince them to try using less machinery, but it worked out. The job had gotten easier for the staff once his mech helped out and John didn't stop, even when they took their lunch break.

His mech was getting attention from other businesses that wanted something built or fixed.

But John couldn't keep up with all the requests, he was only one man with one mech. He couldn't make multiple mechs quickly and he only built them when there were no vehicles that needed fixing.

So he started building something cheap and easy to make more of.

"Do you need help with that?"

A twelve-foot-tall, top-heavy robot with a bulky upper torso, a single red eye, and long mechanical arms sp worker holding a steel column.

The worker nodded. The robot extended one arm that is an impact wrench and tightened the bolts alongside him.

This was John's other prototype a robot based on the Hyperion Loader Bot from Borderlands. To bring some nostalgia from his past life's favorite games. He'd made two so far.

The blueprint were easy. But he'd had trouble building an AI programmed for construction. Good thing John had a way to solve it with his little secret using the Rat Talisman power which had helped him gain more IQ.

However, John couldn't make two new Astral Pulses that would take too much time. So he slightly modified his Mark 3 Arc Reactor-inspired regulators into chargeable batteries for his Loader Bots.

Everything was going well until a sound of a horn got everyone's attention. The culprit behind it was the Uraraka couple.

"Time to go home, everyone. There's been a villain incident, the delivery truck that was supposed to travel with the supply got damaged. They won't be able to do it today, so we have to cut work short."

The workers were disappointed, but they started packing the tools while John and his Loader Bots went inside the truck.

Just before starting the truck, he felt his phone buzz and checked it to see Kaina's message.

Kaina: Hey John, Ai has asked me if the three of us go out for dinner cause I'm free tomorrow and is it alright if Rover doesn't come along.

'Ai sure has a habit of wanting to spend time with her.'

After that hangout with the pro hero, they'd been going out for the past month when both had time. It wasn't like every day, John would call Kaina to let Ai chat with her whenever she got bored. Honestly, he did enjoy knowing her and he's happy Ai has a friend.

John typed back, agreeing not to bring Rover this time. Last time when he brought Rover to dinner at Ai's request, it made a mess and he had to pay for the damage.

John: Okay, Rover won't come with us tomorrow night. What place do you have in mind?

There was a pause, then Kaina texted back.

Kaina: There's this sushi bar people talked about. Will that work?

John: Sure. I wouldn't turn down some good sushi.

She responded with a thumbs-up emoji, making John chuckle. He started the truck and headed home.

"I should buy some Chinese food for lunch before going home." he muttered, passing a background samurai pro hero signing autographs for fans.

.......

Meanwhile, Sora walked through the busy streets carrying shopping bags.

Life had started to get easier for him,he'd gotten a job through his previous boss's request to try it out, and he liked it very much.

Being a janitor didn't feel as fulfilling as being a pro hero, but it was better than going out fighting dangerous people and getting hurt on the job.

Sora liked the mechanic. He was a fun guy, helpful to others who couldn't afford full prices. Sora couldn't help but admire how he wanted to do more, using a mech for construction while providing for his little sister by himself.

BAM.

Sora stopped walking. He'd heard a loud noise in the alleyway then peeked around the corner and saw two men putting an eight-year-old kid into a portal, then paying a drunk guy money.

"You sure this kid's Quirk is good for fighting?"

"Trust me, that brat's Quirk is good to take a punch. Some kind of rubber Quirk."

While those men did their business, Sora held his breath, trying not to make a noise.

'Crap. I shouldn't be getting myself involved in this again. I said I wasn't gonna get into danger again.'

He'd already given his last info to Absalon and swore not to do it again. But his heart pounded, and his mind screamed at him to do something to get help.

Seeing no pro heroes or police nearby, Sora took out his phone and snapped a picture of the three men before they jumped into the portal. The drunk man went back inside.

He sighed in relief and was about to go home but stopped, face-palming.

"Dammit. Absalon doesn't use a damn phone to contact me when I have information. How the hell am I supposed to tell him when I retired the job he gave me?"

Sora slumped, feeling depressed. He decided to walk to the police station and show the evidence, hoping they'd get there fast to save the kid and whoever else was in that arena the thugs mentioned.

Sora felt more comfortable contact Absalon than the authorities because of his background and what job he did before getting a better one.

......

Hours later.

At night, John in his vigilante outfit as Absalon flew above the city while invisible. Ever since he and Ai made contact with Kaina and enjoyed their time together over the past month, he hadn't had the time or urge to go out and do what he does.

Absalon undid his invisibility and landed on top of a building that wasn't too tall for him so he can see any danger.

"Man, I missed this feeling. Going outside, seeing some thug or villain to beat down and taking what they've got to fill my wallet."

He paused scratching his head "But I won't lie—spending time with a character I barely knew about from my past life felt weird. At the same time... nice."

Absalon laughed, thinking back to the one hangout with him, Ai, Rover and Kaina at the park having a picnic, only for it to get ruined by a stupid villain and hero fight.

Fans immediately recognized them. He had to carry the three of them again like last time, using a bit of telekinesis to trip the fans as he ran. It wasn't pleasant, but at the same time it was fun.

"However, that doesn't mean I love her. She's still working with those tricky bastards. I wouldn't want to end up in some corny drama couple TV series. Especially not your domestic life, even though you're just a toy."

Absalon reached into his pocket and pulled out an Endeavor action figure alive and moving, thanks to the Rat Talisman.

Mini Endeavor's limbs were gone, and he glared at Absalon, ignoring what he'd said.

"You will pay for your crimes!" Mini Endeavor shouted, flames erupting from his body and trying to burn Absalon's hand. Instead, the flames melted from the extreme heat mini Endeavor produced killing himself.

Absalon shook his head in disappointment and shake his hand off the melted plastic . The Rat Talisman had massive advantages reanimating a statue or toy of a person gave it their powers, abilities, and memories as the original.

The only two downsides were that the things he brought to life had their own will and the materials they were based on. They wouldn't handle the damage as the original based on the reanimated body made off.

Honestly, John would've abused the Rat Talisman to bring anything to life. Like Dragon Ball, for example he could just animate Shenron and wish for anything. Sadly, the MHA world had no franchises from his past world, so no infinite wishes for Absalon.

But then again, it would get boring very fast for him. Imagine having a Super Shenron figure to reanimate and wishing to become a god of destruction in no time.

That doesn't sound fun at all. Absalon wouldn't want to become some fat-ass purple cat that does nothing.

He could imagine the perfect body he built being ruined, replaced by disgusting flaps of flesh.

"Yikes, don't want to end up like a fat slob from Star Wars."

WHAM.

"Hm?"

Absalon looked down to see a female pro hero injured, surrounded by villains wearing shinobi clothes. One of them oange clothes, blonde hair. He even looked like Naruto Uzumaki, minus the whiskers.

"You think going around our territory won't cause you trouble? How about we teach you a lesson."

The fat one spoke in a voice like sandpaper rubbing against flesh and smoking five packs of cigarettes.

Absalon click his neck not bothering checked around to see if others are coming.

"Time to play hero with some murder."

He manifested a katana out of thin air and jumped down, cutting off one of the gang members' arms.

"GRAAHH!"

Blood sprayed everywhere, some of it hitting the female pro hero. She'd been scared for her life now she was surprised. Her pupils shrank as she watched the person who cut the gang member's arm slowly stand up, towering over them.

"Ab... Absalon?"

Absalon didn't bother turning around to check if she was alright. He'd only seen some bruises nothing fatal.

He was staring at the gang, who looked awfully similar to Naruto characters. He even saw the freaking symbols from the Naruto villages.

"Where did you all come from? Last time I checked, in my year and a half of killing or breaking I've never seen or met anyone with those ridiculous styles. Mind telling me where you're all from? I promise to let all of you live except this one dude bleeding out."

He pointed at the guy whose arms he'd cut off, slowly losing consciousness from blood loss.

The gang was scared, but their leader the one who looked like Naruto stepped up. His expression was confident, though a little scared. He stood his ground.

"You think your reputation of being dangerous is nothing? Could be some damn rumour people made up. We, the Shinobi Clan, will never take the disrespect you've shown. Prepare to die."

The leader raised his hand as a blue orb of energy appeared. Before he could make a move, Absalon turned into a blur and stabbed the leader from behind.

The gang froze stunned by the sheer speed of it. But anger and desperation took over, and they charged, believing numbers would give them the advantage.

They were wrong.

Absalon pulled the katana back and swung it in one swift motion, cutting through them like paper. Heads separated from shoulders, blood gushing out like a fountain as bodies collapsed to the ground.

The leader's face was frozen in dread. The female pro hero stared in horror, her stomach turning.

"BLUERGG!"

She vomited understandable and most people would. The sheer amount of bloodshed was enough to make anyone sick.

But Absalon didn't care how bloody it was.

He didn't know if it was because he'd never felt much emotion for the dead in his past life or if Guts' body carried the instincts and lack of guilt for killing.

Probably both.

He walked back to the kneeling leader, who was clutching his chest and staring up at him in fear.

"You know being that arrogant to someone you've never faced before is a big mistake and that will lead to bad outcomes.

Especially against someone like me. Cause I'm not some pro hero or villain and don't follow the bullshit rules that delusional people listen to."

Absalon stabbed the Naruto lookalike in the groin. The leader screamed in pain.

"I would've let you live with some broken bones or an amputated limb. But looking at your face reminds me of a series that's trash in story and character development. Especially how those people made a sequel that's a lot worse than the original."

He raised his katana, ready to cut the leader down. The man, feeling death closing in, started begging.

"Please, let me live! I can give you information on my clan's clients! They've done far more terrible things than I ever have. Just please, let me go!"

"Not so fast villain!"

Absalon glanced to his right, wondering who had called out. What he saw was a bootleg version of the Flash.

'Looks like my focus to those nobodies looking like Naruto characters let my guard down. Meh, I'll deal with later.'

"Can I help you, whoever you are?"

Absalon wasn't that knowledgeable about every MHA character's name and didn't care, most of them weren't recognized much by fans anyway.

"The name's O'Clock. I heard what you did to those criminals and villains from the Hero Public Safety Commission report. You have no right to do any of that."

While he rambled, Absalon tilted his head, trying to remember the name.

'Oh... he's Knuckleduster before he had his Quirk stolen by All For One. Talk about unlucky for him to encounter me of all people. Now that I think about it, why is he here?'

In his year and a half as a vigilante, Absalon had never faced many pro heroes who weren't ordered by the HPSC to hunt him andd he'd broken them before.

This was the first time meeting Knuckleduster in his "glory" days, before the downfall. Absalon decided to cut him off.

"You should know what I'm capable of. Trying to stop me from killing this guy is impossible and It's better you get this girl out of here, she's not in any shape to fight after seeing what I did."

Absalon thumbed at the female hero staring at him in fear. Even though he'd literally saved her from those guys, who knows what they would've done if they hadn't been there.

"That's why he's not alone."

Absalon turned his head at the new voice. From the shadows emerged the same samurai pro hero he'd passed this afternoon.

Two pro heroes had blocked both passages of the alleyway, Absalon wasn't even slightly impressed. Especially since these were two characters who were about to get their asses kicked if he chose to.

'This is ridiculous, first the character who moves five times faster than a regular person and second, some nobody whose Quirk is a glowing sword. I'm literally surrounded by idiots.'

Just as things were getting more out of hand, threads latched around the female pro hero and the leader. They were lifted up fast away from Absalon.

Absalon looked up and saw a familiar character from My Hero Academia but much younger in this era.

'Best Jeanist? Why is he... ah, I get it. He must've turned eighteen in this era and was currently on patrol with one of these bozos until I made a ruckus. Jeez, the author really made this time too vague for me to understand in my past life.

But I can still get that Naruto copy's head after I deal with these two.'

Absalon looked at the bootleg Flash, who ran toward him thinking he was unleashing a surprise attack. Only to get palmed by Absalon and slammed into the ground so hard it caused a small crater, knocking him out.

"O'Clock!"

The samurai hero shouted and pulled out his katana, now glowing white.

It wasn't that impressive to Absalon, even seeing it in person. He made his own assumptions how it functioned after seeing this.

"Judging by how your Quirk works, it's some sort of enhancement type that augments equipment.

But the way you only use a katana means you can only do it one at a time. Since you showed your power, it's only fair I show you how I enhance my katana."

Just to intimidate him, Absalon used the Dragon Talisman to engulf his katana in a massive amount of fire.

The elderly hero stepped back as the flames around the blade took the shape of a dragon's head, staring at him.

Just ss the hero blink his eyes, he felt sharp and burning pain spread across his body quick, but enough to lose consciousness.

Absalon now stood behind him, the hero's burn marks cuts, his armor and katana sliced into pieces.

It only took one second to defeat the pro hero without killing him.

"Now where is he?" Absalon muttered, levitating into the air. Then he spotted young Jeanist, carrying the Naruto copy and the female hero is running with him.

...........

Best Jeanist had recently graduated and had only been operating as a pro hero for a few months.

He'd never faced something this serious so fast in his life, when he and the other three pro heroes were on patrol investigating missing people. They try follow the Shinobi clan members after going through their unusual meet ups. Jeanist never expected Absalon had killed them so quickly except for one jeanist has while restrained.

"We need to head to headquarters and alert the others for backup!" the female hero said, her voice mixed with panic and desperation.

"We can not just yet. We have to get this man to a hospital to stop the bleeding." Jeanist spoke as he looked at the gang leader the one who'd assaulted a hero and felt pity for him, given his crotch was stabbed.

Jeanist didn't know if the heroes were still holding Absalon off or if they were already dead. But he hopes they are not dead cause Absalon didn't attack heroes to his knowledge of the news...

"GAHH!!"

The young hero felt a powerful tug on the threads he was using to carry the leader. Both heroes turned around to see the man being pulled by Absalon, who was holding his head.

"It's better you let go and give me this guy's head, I don't want to harm you like the other two since you're still a rookie."

End.
