Chapter 3 - Advancements

Having tried to push doors while crawling and failing to do it made me realize that I was still too weak. I didn't want to waste my time on things I was physically unable to do, so I focused on different tasks a baby is supposed to achieve while they grow up, like standing up and talking.

Standing up proved to be the easiest of the two, as I already had experienced walking around. The vastly different proportions of my current and past legs were really disorienting at first, but after about a month of trial and error i managed to stand and even walk around a bunch.

The hard part definitely was managing to understand the language. I tried approaching it how you would approach learning a new language, but I didn't have any reference material I could compare to what my mother was saying. All I knew for a fact was that two particular words kept reappearing in my mother's sentences. The one was Wil. If I had to guess, it is either my name or the word for "baby". The other was kotza. I'm not sure what it means exactly. It is just frequent. Both pronunciations were like taking Japanese and English, mixing them together and making that pronunciation a bit coarser.

Now being able to walk, I started bringing or pointing to random objects to my mother, noting everything she said as a response. I pointed at the door and she answered "Deo?". Then the table. "Tapo?" It really felt like a mix of two languages, mixed awkwardly together until they formed something new. Is this how language in every world would naturally evolve given enough time?

I tried speaking those words. My phonetic cords were a lot weaker than those of my past body, which is understandable given i was just a baby. I didn't manage to say them at first. The only one I managed to say was Wil, but it sounded more like saying the name of that one console back on earth. I will continue practicing and see how this goes.

One perk of being able to move was being allowed to go outside. Of course, my mother was watching over me. It felt refreshing going out after so long. Judging from the trees in the garden and my mother dressing me a lot more than usually, it looked like it was autumn currently. That means I was born in winter, huh? Poor mother and father. That must have been hard for them.

A breeze of cool wind passed over my face. It felt nice. Cleaner than earth, yet as calming as ever. I think I like this place after all.

I went towards the entrance to the residence to look outside. There was no gate, so i thought it was an excellent opportunity for some world exploration. From what I could see, our house was surrounded by fields. Most of them were already harvested, but some still were full of wheat. We were probably in the middle of harvesting season. In the far distance, there was a mountain range covered in snow, with some dark clouds forming above them.

The moment I got close to the entrance, my mother ran and picked me up. She looked angry. And rightfully so. She did just witness her baby running for the exit as soon as it saw it. She shouted something at me. I didn't understand what she said, but from the harsh tone of her voice I guessed that she was probably scolding me. It didn't really bother me though. It was totally worth it. But next time, I'll have to watch the outside world a bit further from the gate, so I'm not scolded again.
