Chapter 1 - The Name Erased from History

The truck didn't even honk. It just ended things.

One moment, Ren Sato was crossing a rain-slicked Tokyo street at 3 a.m., mind numb from another overtime shift debugging code that nobody would ever thank him for. The next, darkness swallowed him whole—no light tunnel, no voice from a goddess, just the wet crunch of metal and bone.

Then, nothing.

Until something pulled him back.

He woke to the smell of damp stone and old blood. His body felt wrong—too small, too fragile, too cold. Tiny lungs drew in shallow breaths. A baby's body. Again? No—still the first time, but this time the world had already decided he was disposable.

Voices echoed above him, muffled through layers of cloth and shadow.

"...another failure. The Shadow Lineage has produced nothing but weaklings for three generations."

"Dispose of it quietly. The prophecy says the forgotten one will return when the light heroes falter—but this child has no mana signature at all. Useless."

A rough hand lifted the swaddled bundle that was now Ren. He felt fingers tighten around his fragile neck, testing. No emotion. Just efficiency.

Ren's mind screamed. Not again. Not like this.

Then something inside him stirred. Not anger. Not fear. Recognition.

[Echo of Oblivion – Awakened]

You are the vessel of the erased.

The Legendary Shadow Assassin, Vaelor Nightshade, whose name was stricken from every record after he slew the God of Light's favored champion.

His techniques, his essence, his curse—they have waited centuries for a host nobody would suspect.

A child already marked for death is the perfect shadow.

The words weren't in a blue box. They weren't friendly. They burned into his infant brain like acid whispers, carrying fragments of memory that weren't his:

A cloaked figure moving through moonlight, daggers drinking light itself. Kings falling in their sleep. Armies vanishing without a trace. And then betrayal—heroes who feared what they could not control, gods who feared what they could not see. They erased him. They erased everything.

Ren's tiny hand twitched. The assassin's instinct was already there, buried in muscle memory older than empires.

The man holding him grunted. "It's struggling. Just snap—"

Ren's eyes snapped open. They weren't a baby's eyes anymore. Violet-black, glowing faintly like dying stars in a void.

A thin thread of shadow—barely thicker than a hair—slithered from his fingertip and wrapped the man's wrist.

The grip loosened instantly.

The assassin inside smiled through the infant's face.

The shadow thread pulsed once. The man's eyes widened. His heart stopped before he could scream. He dropped like a puppet with cut strings.

Ren fell with him, tumbling into cold straw. The second figure—a woman in dark robes—whirled.

"What in the—"

Another thread. This one faster, sharper. It pierced her throat before she finished the sentence. Blood sprayed in a perfect arc, black in the dim torchlight.

Silence returned.

Ren lay there, breathing hard, tiny chest rising and falling. Two corpses. One accidental death. One deliberate.

The more forgotten you remain, the stronger you become.

He couldn't laugh yet—not with this body—but the feeling was the same.

Good.

Outside the stone chamber, distant footsteps approached. Guards, probably. Or more of the family that had just tried to kill him.

Ren closed his eyes. Let them come. Let them look at the "useless" infant surrounded by dead adults and see nothing but coincidence.

Because the Legendary Shadow Assassin nobody remembered... had just been reborn.

And this time, he wouldn't leave any records to erase.

He would make sure the world forgot everything—except the fear.

End of Chapter 1.

(Next chapter would escalate with his "family" discovering the bodies, the prophecy stirring, and Ren's first conscious steps toward rebuilding the forgotten legacy—while staying completely off everyone's radar.)
