Chapter 8 - 398

"Daisy! Y-You're alright?!" Sam grinned the instant he saw his crush. He dismounted and started rushing towards her like a puppy Growlithe. "I was worried after running into so many—"

"What are you doing here Sam?" Daisy growled, cutting through his words and making him stop. "I beat you up back before Viridian Forest! You're supposed to be back in Pallet town! Safe!"

"Eh?" Sam replied as I tilted my head with interest. Oh dear, was she a tsundere? Did Oak attract a certain type of girl?

Her hands clutched around the egg as her eyes flickered around, eventually landing on me and Rhyhorn. "Oh… someone…" She worked her jaw like she was having to force out the next words "What, did he take pity on you?" she pushed out while her eyes flashed in apology before resolving into a harder expression.

Hmmm, this appeared to be more complicated than I'd hoped for. She wasn't actually a brat, but she was forcing herself to be one. Why?

Sam flinched. "T-that's not true!" he hurried to say but I caught the quick glance he sent my way.

Hmmm, she'd caused a seed of doubt there, hadn't she?

I toyed with the idea of stepping in and de-escalating things, but Sam stepped forward.

"He didn't!" Sam growled back and Daisy blinked in surprise at the sudden hostility. "I might have been in a rough situation but… he hasn't been taking pity on me!"

Daisy shook her head. "That!" she took a step back before stopping. Again she seemed surprised. "It doesn't matter. Go home Sam. I have the egg and I'm keeping it for my family!" she announced.

"Eh? But it was a deal made to my family to collect the Bulbasaur egg?" he stated.

Ho? Oak was supposed to get a bulbasaur egg? That was interesting, considering he already had a Charmander. Were they trying to stack the traditional starter pokemon of Kanto? It would make for a powerful combination for any trainer to have on their roster.

"Well, a new deal was reached," Daisy snapped. "They were more than happy to make sure their egg went to a strong family!" she jutted her chin.

Hmmm, there were more layers to this story than I'd first assumed.

Tensions in Pallet town, it would seem, at least according to this girl.

"But… it's my mission to collect that egg," Sam said carefully.

"Well you failed!" Daisy snapped. "Go Home Sam!"

Sam stared at her like he was truly seeing her for the first time.

"You…" his fists clenched. "No."

"No?" Daisy replied, staring at Sam.

"No," he repeated. "I need that egg."

Daisy laughed at him. "Oh yeah? What are you going to do? Beat me?" Her eyes flickered to me. "Or have your bodyguard do it? Is that what this is?"

"No! It's not! He's been mentoring me for this trip!" Sam thumped his chest with a hand. "I'm not weak Daisy!" he declared.

"Well, you could have fooled me," she declared. "How about this Sam? One fight, the winner keeps the egg?" She set the egg down, glancing at me. When I made no move to intervene, the tension in her shoulders relaxed and she exhaled.

"Agreed," Sam said, some steel entering his tone as he locked eyes with her.

His sudden conviction took her a little aback before she smirked. "Same predictable Sam," she muttered as she drew out the ancient-looking pokeball she and Sam both used.

I stepped to the side with Rhyhorn. "Fight well Sam," I offered as I got comfortable on a small terrace overlooking the green space they'd chosen for their battle.

Daisy set the egg down next to her and then both of them sent out their first pokemon.

Charmander appeared only for Squirtle to appear across from it. Charmander bristled at its foe while Squirtle smirked and jutted its chin.

Huh. Daisy owned a Squirtle.

Suddenly, the importance of garnering a Bulbasaur for her family became much more obvious. Oak's family may have been making a play to shore up their weaknesses and threaten her family at the same time.

Charmander began to hop and skip around the field furiously, evading Squirtle's Water Gun attacks rather well, only to counter with a smokescreen of all things.

Daisy's gasp of surprise as Charmander emerged from the smokescreen to hammer her pokemon with a scratch let me know that this fight very much wasn't playing out as it had last time.

"Rapid Spin away!" Daisy barked to gain room for her pokemon. "The use Withdraw! You can outlast him Squirtle! You're stronger!" she ordered.

She had a gleam in her eye that let me know that wasn't all she was going for. I suspected a trap, and sadly Sam wasn't experienced enough to sniff it out.

"Go! Before she boosts her defense!" he ordered.

Charmander leapt with glowing claws only for Daisy to snap her hand forward. "Aqua Tail launch!" She called and a tail of water shot out of Squirtle's shell to slap the ground and launch it into the air and directly into Charmander who tottered back from the super effective blow.

He staggered for a few steps before standing tall and growling. "Char! Char mander!" he slurred.

I sat up, concerned about how he was obviously woozy.

"Ember while they're in the air!" Sam ordered, unaware of the danger to his pokemon.

The Ember connected and Squirtle flinched as a tongue of flame caught on Squirtle's body, only for a Water Gun to nail Charmander and send him flying away.

"Charmander!" screamed Sam in fear.

I rose from where I was seated and approached the injured pokemon. "Here, let me look," I offered, already drawing out some of the herbs we'd collected.

Sam blinked at me only to nod eagerly when he saw the salve I had in hand.

"What are you doing? I hope you don't think you can keep fighting with him?" Daisy cut in.

"No," I replied straight away. "Charmander is out of the fight, but Sam still has two more pokemon."

Daisy sighed. "Your two bug pokemon right? You don't actually think they're going to do you any good are you? I admit you've gotten… smarter with your Charmander but we're too experienced for you Sam. Stop fighting."

Sam clenched his fists and shook his head. "No!" he growled back, already reaching for his next pokemon.

From there Weedle and Caterpie both gave good showings, but were unable to do more than draw the match out. Which, if they had evolved and with higher defences, might have changed things as I noticed that Squirtle was hurting the more the fight played out.

Hmmm, neither trainer had noticed the burn.

When the fight finally finished I watched as Sam sank to his hands and knees. "Damn it damn it damn it!" he growled, grabbing at the ground.

Daisy collected her egg and shifted for a moment. "You… you fought well Sam, but… You're not beating me," she announced. "The egg is mine." She swallowed. "Sorry," she said before turning and racing away.

I stood. "Young miss! Stop!"

She stiffened, turning with wide eyes. "I thought—"

I drew out a herbal salve. "Your pokemon is burnt," I said softly, approaching her. "If you had continued to fight for even a minute more, your pokemon would have been the one to fall."

That made her stiffen and behind me Sam made a noise of surprise.

Her expression flickered for a moment before huffing. "I doubt that," she replied. "But…" her eyes flickered to where Charmander was sitting and watching, now awake and obviously doing better for himself.

"Thanks for the salve," she said, accepting it. She lingered, eying Sam's kneeling form. "I'll see you back home tomorrow I guess," she said before darting away.

I hummed, watching her go before turning back to my charge. He dropped his gaze and I hummed. "Let's get your team to the local healer."

Thankfully, while there wasn't a dedicated pokemon centre with a Nurse Joy and a chansey yet, I did know that Towns and cities of Kanto had historically supported healers. During the war, the Joy family would spread far and wide earning themselves the acclaim they did.

If I were to encounter them today, they'd probably still be the original husband and wife pair who would be busy raising a family of twelve children. All of them girls, and all of them adamant in their desires to enter Nursing.

Sam accepted the offer sullenly and we marched in silence for a while. Eventually, he spoke up. "I lost," he muttered, his hand drifting to Charmander at his side.

"Yes," I replied easily. "Did you learn anything?"

"That I suck," he replied.

"No, not that. That's letting defeat claim you before your next match. Find the victory from the defeat, what can you take away that you did well? That you need to improve upon, or any observations you might have made?" I offered kindly.

Sam pursed his lips and fell back into silence, but this time it was a thoughtful silence, full of quiet reflection.

"Do you really think that we'd have won if we'd dragged the match out a minute longer?" he asked.

"Yes, I couldn't see any other pokemon on her belt and while her Squirtle is impressive it is only one pokemon. It can be worn down by extended injuries like being burned, poisoned, or even leech seeded. It is rather silly of her to rely on that one pokemon," I lectured.

"Oh, that might be cause her family isn't so well off…" he made a face and scratched the side of his face. "Our family… has been applying pressure to them," he murmured. "I was… never mind," he muttered.

I hummed, wondering if it was worth pushing on only to reach the small business that signage around Cerulean had led us towards. I nudged him into the waiting room before stepping out myself. "See to your pokemon. Then we'll find out where we'll stay. It wouldn't be wise to be out and about at night."

"Okay," he replied, stepping into the building.

I turned my gaze upon Cerulean of the past.

It was larger than I remembered. There were several structures along what looked like the coastline with manors and even a vineyard that I couldn't recall ever seeing in my life.

If it weren't for Mt Moon behind me, and the silver mountain range sweeping around from the west and north, I'd have thought this an entirely different place.

If I'd gone into Pewter City... what would I have seen?

I had half a mind to go door to door, knocking and warning the people of what was to come.

On a whim, I activated my Xtransceiver and began taking videos of what old Cerulean was like. I wasn't sure it would ever be anything that might enter public viewing, but it was still worth documenting.

I couldn't save those people, but I could help people remember them.

"You there!" a strong voice called. Looking over my shoulder I found another knight marching towards me with a blue waterflower emblem on his shield. He was an older man with white hair and a bushy moustache that twitched as he spoke.

Behind him another man scampered along with a shield of his own that was like the knights but only a single waterdrop. In his hands he held the knight's helmet.

The boy held my attention more than the man due to his orange hair.

Hair that perfectly matched that of Misty.

The older man shifted, causing his armor to clank and reveal the pair of pokeballs on his belt.

"What are your intentions here?" he declared.

Shit, was I about to be challenged to another knight fight? I was rather done with the experience after the mess it had landed me in.

"I'm here with my squire on an errand," I replied slowly. "It seems we were too late however and the errand has been completed by another. We're looking for somewhere to take shelter for the night."

The older man relaxed at my response. "Ah, my apologies for waylaying you then. I just wanted to make sure you weren't about to attempt to head home."

"Hmmm?" I shifted a little more and gave the other man a curious look.

He gestured at me. "You are obviously a man from Pewter with your attire," he remarked. "Some think it is an easy jaunt over the mountain despite the night making it harder with the various evil pokemon," he stated. But if you're staying the night, I need not worry," he said.

"My thanks," I replied before tilting my head.

He bobbed his head. "Not a bother! It is only right that as a loyal attendant of Lord Cascade I see to the people of the city!" he declared proudly. He turned and nodded to the boy. "Come along my boy, we shall see you home to your Lord father!" he declared, marching off into the dying light.

I hummed and returned to inspecting the surrounding area. Lord Cascade eh?

I hadn't ever looked into why the Cerulean badge was named that way, but now… now I had a suspicion.

It seemed I was meeting a lot of people's grandfathers.

I'd have to stay away from Saffron. I had no idea how a psychic like Sabrina's grandfather or grandmother might react to me.

"Sir Boulder?" Called Sam's voice after an hour of me wandering the streets. Somehow, I hadn't been able to find a set of rooms at an inn in all that time despite approaching six establishments. There had been damage, overbooking, and even a sudden surge in bookings when I approached with people having 'illicit rendezvous' that I wasn't about to question.

It stank of someone putting their thumb on the scales.

"Hello Sam, I am sorry to report that I've learned much of the local housing situation!," I replied glibbly.

Sam blinked. "Ah?" then he considered me before biting his lips. "So… we don't have a room to stay in just yet?" he asked.

"No!" I cheerfully replied. "Not yet!"

That made him giggle and give me a smile. I inspected him and found that he looked much more upbeat from

Sam approached and I looked him over, he looked mostly recovered from his earlier ordeal which was good.

"Shall we keep trying?" I asked. "I'd rather not stay out with all the dark types likely out and about."

"Hmm? Dark types?" he asked.

"Yeah, you know? Dark pokemon that are strong to psychic and weak to fighting type pokemon?" I stated easily. "Murkrow, and such."

Then I recalled that this might not be information that was well-known at this point. I gave Sam a look and saw he had a wide-eyed look.

Shit. Shit. shit.

Me and my big mouth!

Celebi this is all your fau—

"We need to go save Daisy!" Sam shouted suddenly.

"Uhm, I'm not sure I understand?" I replied.

"She said she'd see me tomorrow! But she doesn't have anyone to lend her a riding pokemon! So she must be trying to do it in one go! She's literally going to run through the night to get back to Pallet town!"

"Oh," I replied, realising just how right Sam was. I tilted my head in thought and drummed my fingers upon my chestpiece. "She… wouldn't be that silly, surely?"

"She's that desperate!" he replied. "I know I'm right! We need to go save her!" he said only to take a step back. "Are you going to help me or—"

"Woah, woah, woah. Alright, I'll come Sam."

He deflated in relief.

Within seconds, we'd once more mounted up on Rhyhorn, and we were tearing our way out of Cerulean.

To save the girl who'd just stolen Oak's family egg, and beaten him up twice.

This was not the adventure I had been expecting.

"Charge Rhyhorn! We have a Maiden to save!" I cheered.

Then again, just cause it wasn't the adventure I'd planned for didn't mean I wasn't enjoying it.

We blitzed through route four, and I was starting to angle towards the tunnel once more when Sam pointed to the side. "She wouldn't have gone through the tunnels! Only crazy people go that way!"

I changed course but gave Sam a pointed look that he ignored as he continued to look around the darkening landscape for any sign of Daisy.

With my own attention turned to the trail leading over Mt Moon, I started to spot several signs of travel.

As the sun set, I spotted more than a few fires off the path, with several tents being clustered together. Each tent had a single pokemon seated outside it. It took me a moment to realise what was going on.

It was the pokeballs.

Older style pokeballs meant that it was rare for a person to have an entire team. If you wanted to travel around you would need a pokemon that could stand sentinel at night.

In a way, it was like having a HM slave from the games, only that one pokemon back in the day was the difference between waking up… and not in some environments.

As we climbed higher, the air grew colder and less and less tents littered the path.

Sam only grew more anxious. "She couldn't have made it that far," he muttered. "We're riding a Rhyhorn, and she was on foot. She left at most two hours before us."

A scream ripped through the air, and Sam and I stiffened as in the air above us, flittering shapes turned as one towards the noise and began to coalesce into a proper swarm of zubat.

"That sounded like Daisy!" Sam shouted.

"Yes, and her scream has drawn the swarm!" I replied. "Rhyhorn! Show me your speed!" I demanded as I began to feed him some of my energy.

Rhyhorn accelerated and within moments, we closed to where the swarm was starting to descend upon a small ditch. We shot towards it and upon crossing the ridge we found Daisy with… a wartortle?

Huh, it would seem she got into a few more fights, or something happened in the space of time since we saw her last.

"Daisy!" Sam shouted upon spotting her and throwing himself off Rhyhorn to tumble down the slope that she must have fallen down.

He barely regathered control of himself halfway down to make it a sprint rather than a fall.

Daisy whipped around, her eyes wide with fear and surprise, only for a watery look of hope to spread as he skidded to a stop next to her.

My gaze flicked around the area, noting the downed zubat, geodude, and Onix that were spread around, only to pause and put a hand to Rhyhorn's back to stop him from throwing himself down the slope towards the children.

"You there! Behind the boulder! What are your intentions?" I boomed, causing both of the kids to startle.

"Tch!" Someone clicked their tongue and from behind the boulder a young dark-haired man swept out and glowered at me. He had a small brown cap on his head that caused my mind to itch.

Shit. This was the Pokemon poacher that appeared in the fourth movie. Only, he didn't have the odd replacement eye he would.

"Trust a fucking knight to stick his nose where it doesn't belong!" he growled, his hands sliding down to his pokebelt. "I won't bother trying to appeal to any common sense. Knight like you are a bane to fucking good working men like me!" he drew both pokeballs and flicked them to release a Houndoom and a Scyther who locked eyes with me and Rhyhorn. "Just know… I'll enjoy whooping you good!" he barked as he thrust his hand forward.

His pokemon surged towards me.

I kipped back, dismounting off Rhyhorn to give him a chance to fight freely.

Through the firming up bond I directed him to focus on the Houndoom. I had my suspicions about the Scyther and this pokemon poacher.

Suspicions that were quickly proven correct as Rhyhorn closed with the pair of pokemon only for Scyther to streak past Rhyhorn and sprint towards me.

Instead of faltering and exposing himself to Houndoom, Rhyhorn committed, trusting in me as I stepped forward to meet Scyther.

"Sir Boulder!" screamed Sam as the Scyther closed.

I raised a fist and inhaled.

Then, in one explosive movement, I exploded forward, causing a spray of rocks behind me while lashing out with a deadly punch that slammed into Scyther's thorax.

Scyther bent around the blow and then was launched back away from me, limbs flailing and screeching in disbelief and pain.

Heh, bug meets rock.

Rock wins, ain't that a tale as old as time.

"EEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHH!?" screamed the kids and the Poacher, their eyes tracking the soaring pokemon.

Seeing in this case was disbelieving.

Scyther tumbled a few times before digging in its blades into the ground to plow the rocky ground.

It stared at me in shock, and for a heartbeat, everyone on the field did likewise. Even the zubat overhead stared at this strange reversal.

Then Rhyhorn smashed into Houndoom and sent it howling into the air before crunching down heavily into the ground. It staggered to its feet a moment later, but it was dazed and weakened from that blow.

I raised my fist towards the trio.

"It would seem that you lack any decency, but that was self-evident from how you were sending wild pokemon to do your dirty!" I growled.

The Poacher swallowed. "Nothing personal," he sneered, only to whip out a cylinder towards the children.

I leapt, unsure what that was but knowing it wasn't good.

"Retreat for—" his command broke off with a yelp of pain as Daisy threw a rock that smashed into his right eye, causing a spray of blood. "Argh! Fucking brat! You had this coming to you!" he snarled right as the cylinder hit the ground and exploded into a howling firework that spread and detonated again.

I skidded into both Daisy and Sam and then pushed them into the ground before burying them in the soil and rock of the slope just enough to cover any parts I couldn't with my armor.

I felt several pings on the back of my armor along with a slight heat as more and more explosions went off behind me.

When everything finally went dark, I straightened only for Wartortle to spray me with Water Gun.

I glared at it for half a heartbeat, causing it to back up a step and gesture at my back. "W-war tort!" it hurriedly said.

"Ah, my apologies. Thank you for putting out the fire," I replied, having not really felt it. I then reached behind me and drew both children out of the earth. They emerged covered in soil and wide-eyed, but perfectly fine.

"Are you both alright?" I asked, kneeling down to check on them both.

Daisy clutched at the egg and stared at me. "You punched a Scyther."

"Indeed," I replied. "It wasn't expecting that, which made it all the more effective."

Sam and Daisy continued to stare at me and I hummed only for a screech from the swarm above us to remind us that we'd just had a lot of noise and light dropped on us.

Something that would no doubt piss off the already present swarm.

"Rhyhorn!" I called and a moment later Rhyhorn slammed into the ground next to me. I grabbed both kids up and stacked them in my lap before mounting up. They barely had the chance to so much as squawk before Rhyhorn was turning and running uphill.

"Away!" I roared at Rhyhorn.

Daisy leaned around me to return her pokemon, showing she had good instincts before she turned to me.

"Why are you running?" she shouted.

Rather than answer, I let the screeching mass of zubat answer for me.

"Oh, right, yeah. Running is good!" she replied as we hurtled across the rocky slopes. I turned my head just in time to watch a sled skidding off down the slope towards Cerulean with the Poacher glaring back at me while holding a hand to one eye.

Heh, Daisy got him good with that throw.

Sma leaned around me. "We're not going to be able to escape them! We're too heavy! I'll—" I started to wiggle. Instinctively, I knew what he was about to do, and when he got his legs underneath him and launched himself, I snatched him out of the air like an errant pup.

"Not today!" I roared. "Don't just throw your life away so carelessly boy! You have family, friends and your pokemon to consider! Also, don't just give up like that! Always keep searching for a way out!" I roared at him as I fed some more energy to Rhyhorn who was flagging horribly.

"B-but! What are we supposed to do?" he wailed.

I glanced up at the cloudy skies. I'd just barely seen it rising on the way up the mountain, but now it was obscured.

"Gonna need you to lift a finger here Celebi," I muttered, hoping it could hear me as I turned Rhyhorn towards a specific crater.

When we hit the downhill portion we gained a slight lead but I knew that Rhyhorn was flagging. Urging him towards a small crack we skidded to a stop before I shoved the children into the crack.

"Eh? But you said not to gi—"

"I'm not!" I declared as I swept around and raised my fists.

I called upon my aura and stared up at the heaving mass of zubat that were closing.

Rhyhorn stepped up next to me and raised his horn in readiness to fight on.

The children released their own pokemon and stepped up behind me.

Then, from overhead, the clouds shifted, and the moon appeared.

Like a heavenly beacon a moonbeam fell directly upon the boulder in the middle of the crater.

For a few seconds nothing happened and I was forced to start hurling rocks at the swarm.

Then, like an avenging army, battle cries erupted from the surrounding crater.

"Cle-fairy!" "Fairy!" "Clefable!" roared tiny pokemon as they bounced out of cracks and holes only to return to their full size.

The zubat swarm suddenly found itself in the middle of an ambush and were torn from the skies only to be crushed as Moonblasts, Meteor Mashs, and more fell upon them.

Within moments the fight went from hopeless to a complete victory on our part.

I exhaled and let the shudder that had been threatening me escape as adrenaline faded.

"Who? Who's that pokemon?" gasped Daisy as her eyes flitted around at the bouncing Celfairy and the single Celfable standing proud atop the glowing meteor.

The Celfable all waved, and my lips twitched. Feeling a little mischievous, while also thinking that they had earned it I saluted. "They are the defenders of Justice and Beauty. They are Clefairy and Clefable, and no evil escapes their sight!"

Sam's head whipped from me to the clefairy. "Soooooo cool!" he gasped.

The clefairy for their part twitched in surprise only to perk up at the praise being directed their way. Clefable smirked as they wandered up to me and patted me on the chest.

Around the area various Clefairy floated around causing Daisy to 'squee' with delight. "They're so cute!" she gushed.

"They're also powerful pokemon in their own right," I offered with a sage nod. Turning back to the obvious leader of the swarm of fairy pokemon I bowed my head. "Might we beg your protection for the evening? The children and I are tired from fighting off a poach—"

"Clefable!" barked the Clefable, its hand pointed out towards me. It nodded once and then tapped its eyes and pointed towards the direction we'd come from.

"You… saw us fighting and are glad we drove off the poacher?" I asked, unsure if I was translating that properly.

Clefable nodded once and gestured to the side where an even smaller group of fairy pokemon emerged.

"Cleffa?" chimed the little pokemon.

"Oh Sweet Lord Arceus! They're even cuter!" she squealed. "Can I hug the—" she tried to ask only for the tiny group to bounce into her in a show of affection.

Sam and I laughed only for a few of the Cleffa to break off and inspect us.

One stood out as it was slower, weaker, and seemd more lethargic in its motions.

I knelt and allowed the action only to pause the sickly one approached and sniffed at me. Something about this one… perhaps it was the way it styled its hair, or the slight colouration difference… I wouldn't be positive unless I saw it evolve into a Clefable but… I got the feeling I'd met this pokemon…

It coughed and without thinking about it I drew out a small pile of herbs that I mashed into a quick and easy tea. Instead of just having it drink the brew I tapped Cleffa on the chest. "Breath in the steam, it will help," I offered.

Cleffa inspected me for a few moments only to hop up my arm and into my helmet where it patted at my face. "Cleffa!" it cheered, hopping back down to follow my instructions.

I chuckled at its actions and hummed happily when it appeared Cleffa was feeling better form the medicine. "You ned to find this thin grass. It's all over Mt Moon, brew it up with some water and breath the steam, then drink the tea and you'll be fine," I offered. If this was during my time I'd have caught it to heal it up but in the current time period health care wasn't as well established.

Huh, that was just another thing Oak insitutied during his time as Champion, wasn't it?"

"Cleffa!" cheeredthe now much more energetic pokemon as it downed the bitter tea and bounced off to play with its fellow pokemon.

My gaze drifted upwards, and I found Celebi floating there with a smug look on its face. Ah, it wasn't just people that I was saving, but also some pokemon as well, wasn't it?

Celebi vanished a moment later and I hummed as the children gushed over the little pokemon.

I let this continue for a few minutes before raising a serious question. "I don't suppose you have any sleeping gear?" I asked Sam and Daisy.

They both slumped and I put my head into my hands.

"Clefable," spoke the leader of the fairies. I glanced up just in time for a group of Clefairy to bounce out of a hidden crevice with what looked like extremely dusty bedding and a few old tents. A few more appeared a few seconds later with platters of trail mix and some berries.

Huh, look at that, they were really rolling out the welcome wagon for us.

"Wow! I think these pokemon are better hosts than even Lord Gemheart!" Sam declared.

Before I could help myself, I threw back my head and laughed.

He wasn't wrong. That night I slept in a tent of my own, with Rhyhorn loudly snoring next to me, with a smile on my lips.

Regardless of the time, it was nice to know you'd made the world a better place.
