Chapter 1 - Chapter That Rainy Afternoon

The Shadow of You in My Heart

Chapter One: That Rainy Afternoon

Ashik Alom is one of the city's most promising young architects—grave, composed, and fiercely meticulous in his work. The pages of his diary are crowded solely with designs and calculations. Yet, beyond those figures lies a world he allows no one else to see.

It was a day of torrential rain. Standing beneath his office building, Ashik was waiting for a rickshaw. Just then, a blue scooter pulled up right in front of him. As the rider removed her helmet, a pair of enchanting eyes and a beaming smile were revealed. It was Afrin Jahan Noor—the office's new intern.

"Sir, don't you have an umbrella? If you'd like, you can catch a lift on my scooter," Afrin's lively voice rang out, cutting through the sound of the rain.

For the first time in his life, Ashik found himself staring into a young woman's eyes and was left utterly speechless. He simply shook his head in refusal, yet Afrin's smiling face became a permanent fixture within the blueprints of his mind.

Chapter Two: Camaraderie Amidst Work

Afrin was Ashik's polar opposite—spirited, talkative, and incredibly full of life. In the somber atmosphere of the office, she was like a radiant slice of a sunny afternoon.

Working on a massive project, Ashik and Afrin often had to stay late into the night together. Over sips of coffee, they would pore over drawings, correcting errors and refining designs.

"Ashik Sir, why are you so serious? Life isn't a blueprint where everything has to be perfect," Afrin blurted out one day, quite unexpectedly.

Ashik paused his pen and looked up. "Without perfection, everything falls apart, Afrin."

"Sometimes, falling apart is a good thing, Sir—it allows you to build anew," Afrin replied; in her enchanting gaze, Ashik felt—for the very first time—the stone walls within his heart begin to crumble.

Chapter Three: The Deep Hue of Friendship

Ashik slowly began to change. He no longer thought solely about his work; instead, he found himself waiting eagerly for Afrin to arrive. They would share tea together at the TSC and go for rides in rickshaws, simply enjoying each other's company. Ashik realized that the name "Afrin Jahan Noor" no longer resided merely in his phone's contact list, but had instead become intertwined with the very rhythm of his heartbeat.

One evening, they sat together by the banks of Dhanmondi Lake. The sky above was bathed in a soft, violet glow.

Ashik gently took Afrin's hand. "Afrin, had you not entered this monotonous life of mine, I would never have known that colors, too, possess a language of their own."

Afrin lowered her head in shy modesty. Her fingers found a sense of profound peace within the warmth of Ashik's grasp. "I, too, had longed for someone to embrace and shelter this restless spirit of mine, Ashik."

Chapter Four: The Foreboding of a Storm

Beneath the veil of happiness, a dark cloud always lurks. Ashik's family had already chosen a bride for him—the daughter of a wealthy businessman. Ashik's father, Mr. Alom, was a man of extremely stern temperament; to him, lineage and social standing were everything.

When he discovered that Ashik was associating with a girl from a humble background, his fury knew no bounds.

"Ashik, do not forget the dignity of our lineage. You have no future with that girl," his father's harsh decree left Ashik in a state of deep turmoil.

Meanwhile, Afrin's family, too, learned of their relationship. They were consumed by anxiety regarding their daughter's future with a young man from such an affluent background.

Chapter Five: The Melody of Separation

Afrin realized that her presence was causing discord within Ashik's family. She began to withdraw into herself; she stopped answering his calls and took a leave of absence from her office.

Ashik would stand outside Afrin's home, waiting for her with a desperate intensity that bordered on madness.

One day, they finally met. Wiping away her tears, Afrin spoke: "Ashik, our worlds are miles apart. Your father's honor means a great deal to me. I cannot bear the thought of you losing your family because of me."

Ashik stood frozen in stunned silence. It felt as though his carefully constructed world had crumbled around him—collapsing like a house of cards in a single, fleeting instant.

Chapter Six: A Long Separation

Six months passed. Ashik had become even more withdrawn and somber. He had immersed himself completely in the boundless depths of his work. Yet, every one of his designs now bears the melancholy of separation. And Afreen? She has left the city behind to pursue an internship in a distant provincial town. Every page of her diary now bears but a single name: 'Ashik Alom.'

That night, a fierce storm raged. Ashik stood on his balcony, watching the rain fall. Suddenly, a message arrived on his phone—from an unknown number. It read: "Afreen is very ill; she keeps calling out your name."

Ashik did not hesitate for a single moment. Disregarding his father's prohibitions and the fear of social judgment—treating them all as trivial—he sped off in his car toward that unfamiliar city.

Chapter Seven: A Vow to Cherish

Upon seeing Afreen lying in the hospital cabin, swathed in white sheets, Ashik's heart nearly burst with grief. Afreen's cheeks had turned deathly pale. Ashik sat down beside her and gently placed his hand upon her head.

Afreen opened her eyes. "You came?"

"I am not going anywhere else, Afreen. No social status, no family—nothing is more important to me than you," Ashik declared, his voice ringing with firm resolve.

When Ashik's father saw that his son was willing to face even death itself for the sake of his love, the hardness within him began to melt away. He finally understood that the human heart cannot be judged by mere designs.

Chapter Eight: The Arrival of Spring

Surmounting every obstacle, that auspicious day finally arrived—the wedding of Ashik Alom and Afreen Jahan Nur. It seemed as though the entire city had adorned itself for the occasion. Ashik wore a white *sherwani*, while Afreen, clad in a vibrant crimson *lehenga*, radiated a celestial glow.

On their wedding night, the couple stood together on the rooftop. The sky above was studded with stars, and a gentle breeze drifted by.

Taking Afreen's hand, Ashik said, "Jan Nur, you are that very design in my life which God Himself has sketched."

Afreen smiled. There was no trace of concealment in that smile—only the boundless happiness of an entire world.

Chapter Nine: Conclusion (Eternal Love)

The story draws to a close on a beautiful morning—within the humble, cozy home of Ashik and Afreen. Money plant vines swayed on the balcony. Ashik was sketching, while Afrin approached and stood beside him, holding a cup of coffee.

Ashik showed her his sketchbook. Inside was a drawing of a house, bearing the name—"Noor Mahal."

Afrin gazed at it in astonishment. Ashik whispered in her ear, "This is our futu..."

"Our future home. A place where there will be only us, and our love."

The bright sunlight from the sky streams into a corner of their room. The story of Ashik Alam and Afrin Jahan Nur—it seems to end, yet never truly does. For true love never grows old; it is born anew with every passing day.🖤☺️
