Chapter 3 - Generalist

[Job Class: Generalist]

[Explanation: A job class ostracized due to its danger to the power structure, the Generalist can copy Passive and Active Skills from all job classes and Develop them into New Job Classes]

I remained stunned as the black menu bar with white font appeared before me.

For humans who have successfully Awakened, this menu bar is commonplace, explaining their performance status.

But the information displayed should be more comprehensive than just Job Class information.

Perhaps I should press something to trigger that information; I moved my finger across the menu bar screen, but nothing happened.

The menu bar screen still didn't change.

Or maybe a voice command?

I tried to guess, then said, "Performance."

And the menu bar immediately displayed my various stats.

[Name: Atreus]

[Race: Human]

[Job Class: Generalist]

[Level: 1] [Job Class Level: 1]

[Health Points: 1860]

[Mana Points: 340]

[Energy Life Points]: 100]

[Base Strength: 5] [Base Dexterity: 5] [Base Intelligence: 5] [Base Endurance: 5] [Dominance: 18]

[Base Active Skills: Imitate Level 1, Mimic Level 1]

[Base Passive Skills: None]

[Specialty: Exponent Energy Life Points]]

Well, this is interesting.

Before I took the Awakened test, I had already studied the stats that only Awakened can possess.

Health Points and Mana Points essentially describe our health and mana levels.

Health Points are depleted when we engage in combat with enemies, while Mana Points are depleted when we use Active Skills.

Energy Life Points are essentially the lifeblood of Awakeneds.

[Energy Life Points]

[Explanation: Can be used to develop Job Stats, Job Skills, Refinement, and other Awakened abilities under certain conditions. If Health Points run out, Energy Life Points are automatically used as a guarantee of survival.]

Strength, Precision, Intelligence, and Endurance are the four core stats that describe a Ranger's abilities.

[Strength]

[Explanation: depicting physical ability to deal physical damage, stamina, and overall physical strength]

[Precision]

[Explanation: describes a person's ability in terms of how quickly they react, for example, avoiding attacks, and how precisely they aim the enemy]

If I remember correctly, a Ranger with the Assassin job class is an example of a Ranger who relies on Strength and Precision.

[Intelligence]

[Explanation: describes magical ability, both in terms of generating magic and their ability to cast magic.]

Ah, in this case, Rangers with the Magician job class rely heavily on this stat.

However, sometimes other job classes besides Magician have active skills that contain magical power, so they need to increase this stat as well.

[Endurance]

[Explanation: describes the ability to defend against various attacks, both physical and magical.]

Rangers with the Tanker job class rely heavily on this stat.

I've often read in various literature that when someone awakens to a certain job class, their base stats will adjust accordingly.

For example, when someone becomes an Assassin, they typically have a starting Strength of 9 and Precision of 9, but their Intelligence and Endurance are 1 because their job skills rarely depend on those two stats.

And because I now have the Generalist job class, a job class never before encountered in this world, its base stats are quite unique because its stat points are evenly distributed among Strength, Precision, Intelligence, and Endurance.

Even more curiously, Generalists have one base stat that no other job class has ever seen: Dominance.

[Dominance]

[Explanation: describes a Generalist's ability to copy the Active Skills, Passive Skills, and Base Stats of other job classes, including to develop copied Stat and Skills]

Dominance has the highest point value compared to Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Endurance, which means it is indeed the most important stat for a Generalist.

Does this mean I'm focused enough on Dominance as a Generalist?

It seems impossible for me to focus on just that one stat point if I leave the four main ones at such average levels.

Now I move on to the Generalist Active Skills: Imitate and Mimic.

[Imitate Level 1]

[Explanation: An Active Skill for Generalists to imitate the Active Skill of another Job Class (Maximum: 1 Job Class) with a usage time of 12 hours and a cast delay of 6 hours for the next cast]

[Mimic Level 1]

[Explanation: An Active Skill for Generalists to imitate the Passive Skill of another Job Class (Maximum: 1 Job Class) with a usage time of 12 hours and a cast delay of 6 hours for the next cast]

Hmmm... if I read the explanation, it turns out that the Imitate and Mimic skills are the two main skills that are at the core of the Generalist Job Class.

Generalists can imitate the active and passive skills of other job classes.

If I imagine it being taken to the extreme, this Generalist can imitate other job classes almost 100% of the time.

If a Generalist can imitate to that extent, then they could easily outperform other Rangers simply by imitating the strongest Ranger.

And if I look at the description, the Mimic Skill, which can imitate the Passive Skill of another Job Class, also imitates the Base Stats of the copied one, so I suspect that my Base Stats will also successfully change according to the job class I'm imitating.

No wonder, Dominance, the Base Stat of the Generalist Job Class, is very important for Generalists.

Finally, I was also interested in checking out Specialty, a unique feature inherent in Awakening itself.

[Specialty: Exponent Energy Life Points]

[Explanation: Every time a Generalist defeats a target, they will gain 10 times their normal Energy Life Points]

For Rangers, Energy Points are their primary assurance, and also their lifeblood, the very essence of the Ranger.

When fighting monsters and beasts, the most crucial thing to keep fighting and winning is ensuring a constant supply of Energy Life Points.

If they run out immediately, the Ranger dies in battle.

If defeating one enemy can give me ten times as much, then this is a guarantee of my survival during the mission.

Apart from that, if a Generalist's skills solely consist of imitating the active and passive skills of other job classes for a certain period of time, I see the risk of them becoming too dependent on other job classes.

Does that mean a Generalist doesn't have any original skills that can be used for offense, defense, or support?

While this is just a small thought, I'm starting to think that there are risks to being a Generalist, despite its uniqueness.

I mean… I'm not complaining about the Specialty that came with my Awakening, but I'm worried that if I rely too heavily on other job classes, this Generalist inherently depends on another Ranger's help for surviving.

"Hey, buddy."

The sound of a grown man tapping me on the shoulder immediately interrupted my thoughts, and my system menu bar immediately closed.

I looked back and saw a blond-haired man, probably around 20 years old, staring at me calmly.

His tall stature and strong shoulders, clad in special protective armor, suggested he was a Ranger Tanker.

Behind him were two women and one man, who, judging by their appearance, appeared to be young and about my age.

From my quick observation, one of the women, with short, shoulder-length hair, carried a healer's special magic staff for healing and supporting buffs, and the other a magician's magic staff for dealing magic damage.

Unlike the healer, who wore a long, covering-the-body coat, this magician wore a special magic coat that revealed quite a bit of her figure.

Next to the two women, a man with short, slicked-back hair wearing a small protective coat that partially covered his shoulders was still staring at me intently.

From the special bow strapped to his back, I could tell he was a Ranger Archer.

[Automated Detection System Established.]

[Please wait for a moment…]

What the…?

Why did I suddenly see a small screen connected to the four people in front of me?

[Installation Completed]

[Mira]

[Job Class: Healer Level 1]

[Vera]

[Job Class: Magician Level 1]

[Kai]

[Job Class: Archer Level 1]

"Hey… did you hear me? Why are you so quiet?"

The silver-armored man's question made me turn my full attention to him.

[Orion]

[Job Class: Tanker Level 6]

Oh, the blond-haired man in silver armor is Level 6, which means he's a Senior Ranger.

"O-oh, yeah, sorry… I was a bit lost in thought. W-what's wrong?" I asked before Orion could get even more suspicious.

"Ah, you finally answered, buddy. You looked drunk earlier. I'm sure you're also a newly Awakened Ranger, like the three behind me," Orion replied calmly, pointing at Mira, Vera, and Kai.

"…so, what's your Job Class?"

Oh shit.

He asked me what my Job Class was.

I guess I couldn't possibly answer with Generalist, since no Ranger has ever had this Job Class.

"My Job Class is…"
