Chapter 7 - A STORM APPROACHES

Morning crept slowly over the vast estate, but the air carried none of the calm that usually accompanied sunrise.

Aurora stood before the towering glass windows of the mansion's main hall, her arms folded as she stared across the mist covered grounds. The memories of the night before still clung to her thoughts like shadows.

Intruders at the perimeter.

Encrypted warnings.

And the silent figure standing beyond the estate's gates.

For most of her life, Aurora had believed danger was something distant, something that happened to other people.

Now it has found her.

Behind her, the sound of measured footsteps echoed across the marble floor.

Adrian.

"You've been standing here for twenty minutes," he said calmly.

Aurora didn't turn immediately.

"I keep wondering if last night was real."

"It was."

She finally faced him.

Adrian looked exactly as he always did, composed, precise, untouchable.

"How are you so calm?" she asked.

Adrian studied her quietly.

"Because panic wastes time."

Aurora exhaled slowly.

"I was terrified last night."

"But you acted anyway."

She lifted her chin slightly.

"That doesn't mean I knew what I was doing."

Adrian gave a faint smile.

"You knew enough."

Before Aurora could respond, the doors behind them opened.

Victor Kane walked in first, followed by Marcus Kane, Rafael Navarro, Lucien Vale, and Dominic Laurent.

The room shifted instantly.

Six billionaires.

Six men who controlled industries, governments, and fortunes that dwarfed entire economies.

And somehow, Aurora had become the center of their world.

Marcus spoke first.

"We've identified the man outside the perimeter last night."

Aurora's stomach tightened.

"I thought you already knew who he was."

Victor's gaze settled on her.

"We suspected."

Lucien finished the sentence.

"Now we're certain."

Aurora crossed her arms.

"So?"

Adrian answered quietly.

"His name is Sebastian Voss."

Aurora frowned slightly.

The name meant nothing to her, but the way the six men reacted to it told her everything she needed to know.

Dominic stepped closer to the table and placed a file on its polished surface.

"Sebastian Voss," he repeated. "Technology magnate. International financier. Strategic investor."

Rafael added calmly,

"And one of the most dangerous men in the world."

Aurora blinked.

"That seems dramatic."

Victor shook his head.

"No. Dramatic would be underestimating him."

Aurora walked toward the table and opened the file.

Photographs.

Corporate acquisitions.

Private intelligence reports.

The man in the pictures had sharp features, dark eyes, and a quiet intensity that made him look like someone who calculated everything.

"He came here last night just to look at the house?" she asked.

Lucien leaned against the table.

"No."

Aurora looked up.

"Then why?"

Victor answered.

"To see you."

Silence fell across the room.

Aurora's fingers tightened on the file.

"Why would a billionaire care about me?"

Marcus' expression hardened slightly.

"Because your father once humiliated him."

Aurora blinked.

"My father?"

Rafael nodded.

"More than ten years ago your father orchestrated a global infrastructure acquisition."

Lucien continued.

"Sebastian Voss attempted to take control of the same network."

Victor finished quietly.

"Your father beat him."

Aurora let out a slow breath.

"So now he wants revenge."

Adrian shook his head.

"No."

Aurora frowned.

"Then what?"

Victor's voice lowered.

"He wants your father's system."

Aurora felt her heartbeat quicken.

The encrypted network.

The legacy.

The thing only she could access.

"So last night," she said slowly, "wasn't an attack."

Marcus shook his head.

"It was a message."

Aurora looked around the room.

"And what message was that?"

Lucien answered calmly.

"That he's coming."

Before Aurora could say anything else

Her tablet suddenly lit up.

A sharp alert echoed across the hall.

Aurora grabbed it immediately.

Lines of encrypted code began streaming across the screen.

Adrian stepped closer, his expression tightening.

"That shouldn't be activated yet."

Aurora's pulse quickened.

"What is it?"

Victor stared at the screen.

Then his voice turned grim.

"Your father's system just triggered something."

Aurora watched as the message resolved itself.

PROTOCOL ATLAS ACTIVATED

Aurora looked up slowly.

"What does that mean?"

Lucien answered quietly.

"It means the final layer of your father's network just woke up."

Aurora's stomach dropped.

"And that's bad?"

Victor shook his head slowly.

"No."

He looked toward the massive windows overlooking the estate.

"It means the war your father prepared for has just begun."

And as if summoned by those words

The distant roar of engines echoed across the grounds.

Aurora turned toward the window.

Through the rising morning mist, a long line of black vehicles was approaching the mansion gates.

Her heart skipped.

Adrian's voice dropped into a quiet whisper.

"Sebastian Voss."

Aurora stared at the approaching convoy.

The storm wasn't coming anymore.

It had arrived.

The convoy rolled slowly up the private road, its dark vehicles slicing through the morning mist like shadows moving with purpose.

Aurora stood motionless at the window.

The lead car stopped just outside the estate's towering iron gates.

The door opened.

A man stepped out.

Even from a distance, Aurora could feel the weight of his presence.

Tall. Impeccably dressed. Completely unhurried.

It was the kind of confidence that only came from a man who had never feared losing.

Adrian's voice broke the silence behind her.

"That's him."

Aurora didn't take her eyes off the figure.

"Sebastian Voss."

Lucien exhaled quietly from across the hall.

"He doesn't usually appear in person."

Marcus folded his arms, watching the scene carefully.

"That means this visit is important."

Outside, Sebastian Voss slipped one hand casually into his coat pocket as he surveyed the massive estate. His gaze moved slowly across the property, as if measuring its value, its defenses and the people inside it.

Aurora felt a strange chill crawl up her spine.

It felt as if he already knew she was watching.

Victor spoke calmly.

"He's not here for a fight."

Aurora turned slightly.

"How can you be so sure?"

Victor's eyes remained fixed on the man beyond the gates.

"If Sebastian Voss wanted to start a war, he wouldn't announce his arrival."

Dominic nodded once.

"He would simply destroy everything from the shadows."

Aurora looked back toward the window.

Sebastian hadn't moved.

He simply stood there, calm and patient.

Waiting.

The silence stretched for several seconds before Aurora spoke again.

"So what do we do?"

Marcus answered immediately.

"We invite him in."

Aurora turned sharply.

"You're serious."

Rafael stepped closer to the table.

"If we refuse, it shows weakness."

Lucien added,

"And Sebastian Voss is the kind of man who feeds on weakness."

Aurora let out a slow breath.

Wonderful.

Her life had gone from divorce court to diplomatic meetings with rival billionaires in less than forty-eight hours.

She straightened her shoulders.

"Fine," she said.

Her voice was steady now.

"Let him in."

Marcus gave a short nod.

Moments later, the iron gates slowly opened.

The convoy moved forward.

Gravel crunched beneath expensive tires as the vehicles approached the mansion.

Aurora could feel her heartbeat in her throat.

The lead car stopped in front of the entrance.

The door opened again.

Sebastian Voss stepped out.

Up close, he looked even more imposing.

Dark hair. Sharp jawline. Eyes that seemed to calculate everything in the room within seconds.

The mansion doors opened.

Footsteps echoed across the marble hall as Sebastian entered.

Every billionaire in the room watched him carefully.

But Sebastian didn't acknowledge any of them.

His gaze moved across the room once, twice

And then stopped on Aurora.

For a long moment, he simply studied her.

Aurora refused to look away.

Finally, Sebastian spoke.

"So," he said calmly.

"You're Victor Hale's daughter."

His voice was smooth, controlled, and faintly amused.

Aurora crossed her arms.

"Yes."

Sebastian tilted his head slightly, observing her like an unusual discovery.

"You're younger than I expected."

Aurora raised an eyebrow.

"And you're ruder than I expected."

A faint chuckle escaped Marcus.

Sebastian's lips curved slightly.

"Good," he said.

"I was hoping you wouldn't be disappointed."

Victor stepped forward slightly.

"You didn't drive here to judge her personality."

Sebastian glanced briefly at him.

"No."

Then his attention returned to Aurora.

"I came to see if she's worth the trouble."

Aurora's eyes narrowed.

"And what's your verdict?"

Sebastian walked slowly across the hall, his footsteps echoing in the quiet space.

When he stopped, he was only a few feet away from her.

Close enough for Aurora to see the calculating intelligence in his eyes.

"I haven't decided yet," he said.

Silence filled the room.

Then Sebastian's gaze shifted toward the tablet resting on the table.

The screen still displayed the message.

PROTOCOL ATLAS ACTIVATED

For the first time since entering the mansion, Sebastian's calm expression changed.

Just slightly.

"Interesting," he murmured.

Adrian's voice hardened.

"You recognize it."

Sebastian looked back at Aurora slowly.

"Of course I do."

Aurora's pulse quickened.

"What is it?"

Sebastian smiled faintly.

"It's proof."

"Proof of what?" Aurora asked.

Sebastian's eyes held hers.

"That your father was even smarter than I gave him credit for."

The tension in the room thickened.

Victor's voice turned cold.

"You're not here to admire his work."

Sebastian shrugged slightly.

"No."

His gaze returned to Aurora again.

"I'm here because of what he left behind."

Aurora's heartbeat quickened.

"The network."

Sebastian nodded slowly.

"Yes."

He took one more step forward.

"And the key that controls it."

Aurora felt every billionaire in the room tense slightly.

Sebastian's voice softened.

"You should know something, Aurora Hale."

She held his gaze.

"What?"

Sebastian's faint smile returned.

"You just became the most valuable woman on Earth."

A pause.

Then he finished the sentence.

"And the most hunted."

The words hung in the air like a storm waiting to break.

Aurora felt a chill run down her spine.

Because for the first time since this nightmare began

She believed him.
