Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Bride Who Arrived Too Late

The bridal room smelled faintly of roses and expensive perfume.

White flowers were arranged carefully around the mirrors, their soft petals glowing under the warm lights. The room was decorated with ribbons of silver and ivory, and a long train of delicate lace spilled across the polished wooden floor from Elena's gown.

Everything looked perfect.

Just like the wedding she had imagined for years.

Elena sat quietly in front of the mirror, her hands resting gently on her lap. Her fingers trembled slightly, though she tried to calm herself.

Today was supposed to be the happiest day of her life.

Her wedding day.

She lifted her eyes slowly to look at her reflection.

For a moment she almost didn't recognize herself.

Her dark hair had been styled into soft waves that fell over her shoulders, and the makeup artist had carefully highlighted her delicate features. The thin veil resting over her head made her look soft and elegant.

For once, she didn't look like the quiet daughter her family often ignored.

Today she looked like a bride.

Elena slowly opened the small notebook she held in her hands.

The pages were filled with neat handwriting.

Since childhood, the notebook had been her voice.

When she was younger, doctors had told her parents that Elena might never speak properly again after a severe illness damaged her voice.

Over time, silence had simply become part of her life.

Most people had learned to ignore it.

Some people pitied her.

But Adrian had never treated her that way.

At least… that was what she had believed.

Earlier that morning, she had written a short sentence in the notebook.

Today I will marry Adrian.

She traced the words with her fingers.

A small, hopeful smile touched her lips.

A soft knock came from the door.

Before Elena could respond, the door opened gently.

Rachel walked inside.

Her younger sister looked radiant in a pale pink dress that hugged her figure perfectly. Her long hair flowed over her shoulders, and her makeup was flawless.

Rachel had always been beautiful.

People often said the two sisters were like night and day.

Rachel was lively, charming, and confident.

Elena was quiet.

Invisible.

"Elena," Rachel said with a bright smile.

"You look stunning."

Elena looked up and smiled warmly.

She quickly picked up her pen and wrote in the notebook before turning it toward Rachel.

Thank you.

Rachel leaned against the dressing table, watching her reflection.

"It's hard to believe the wedding is finally happening," Rachel said casually.

Elena nodded.

Her heart beat faster just thinking about it.

Rachel reached toward a nearby tray and picked up a glass of orange juice.

"You must be nervous," she said softly.

"You haven't eaten all morning."

She held the glass out toward Elena.

"Drink this. It will help you relax."

Elena hesitated for a brief moment.

But Rachel was her sister.

The one person who had always seemed to stand by her side.

So she accepted the glass.

The juice was cold and sweet.

She drank several sips before placing it back on the table.

Rachel watched her carefully.

Something in her expression slowly changed.

The warmth disappeared from her eyes.

A few minutes later, Elena felt a strange heaviness spread through her body.

She blinked.

The room seemed to tilt slightly.

Her fingers tightened around the notebook.

Why did she suddenly feel so dizzy?

She tried to stand.

But her legs felt weak.

Her vision blurred.

The notebook slipped from her hands and fell to the floor.

Rachel quickly stepped forward and caught her before she collapsed.

"Elena," Rachel whispered softly.

But her voice sounded different now.

Cold.

Almost amused.

Elena's eyes widened as realization slowly crept into her mind.

Rachel gently removed the veil from Elena's head.

"I'm sorry, sister," she said quietly.

"But Adrian was never meant for you."

Elena tried to move.

Tried to push her away.

But her body refused to obey.

Her limbs felt heavy, like stone.

Rachel leaned closer, her lips almost touching Elena's ear.

"You should rest," she whispered.

"I'll take care of the wedding for you."

The last thing Elena saw before darkness swallowed her vision was Rachel placing the veil over her own head.

When Elena woke up again, the world felt strangely silent.

Her head throbbed painfully.

For several seconds she lay still, trying to understand what had happened.

The soft ticking of a clock echoed through the room.

She slowly pushed herself upright.

The bridal room.

The decorations.

Her wedding dress.

Her heart suddenly began to race.

Elena looked at the clock on the wall.

Her breath caught in her throat.

Hours had passed.

Panic exploded inside her chest.

She jumped to her feet and rushed toward the door.

Her heels clicked loudly against the floor as she ran down the hallway.

Her dress dragged behind her as she hurried toward the grand hall.

But the moment she stepped inside—

She stopped.

The hall was empty.

Completely empty.

The music had stopped.

The guests were gone.

Rows of white chairs stood silently beneath the dim lights.

Petals from the flower arrangements were scattered across the floor.

Half-empty glasses of champagne remained on the tables.

It looked like a celebration that had already ended.

Elena slowly stepped forward.

Her heartbeat thundered in her ears.

"Adrian…"

Her lips moved silently.

No answer came.

Her trembling hands pulled out her phone.

She quickly dialed her mother.

The call rang once.

Then it was declined.

Confused, she tried again.

Declined.

Her breathing grew uneven.

She called her father.

Declined.

Her chest tightened painfully.

Finally she called Rachel.

The phone rang several times.

But no one answered.

Elena's fingers shook as she lowered the phone.

Something was terribly wrong.

That was when she noticed the large wedding banner still hanging above the stage.

Her eyes slowly moved toward the names written on it.

And her entire body froze.

Adrian & Rachel

The phone slipped from her hand and hit the floor.

The words blurred as tears filled her eyes.

Rachel.

Her sister.

Her sister had taken her place.

The wedding had happened without her.

The priest had married them.

The guests had celebrated.

And no one had even looked for her.

Elena's chest tightened as though something inside her had shattered completely.

She tried to scream.

Tried to cry out.

But the familiar silence trapped the sound in her throat.

Her sister had stolen her wedding.

Her parents had ignored her calls.

And the man she loved had married someone else.

She ran outside.

The night air felt cold against her skin.

The streets were almost empty.

Elena looked desperately for a taxi.

But none appeared.

Several cars passed slowly, their drivers staring in confusion at the bride standing alone by the road.

But none of them stopped.

Her phone vibrated suddenly.

Hope flashed through her chest.

She quickly opened the message.

It was from her mother.

"Stop causing trouble. The wedding is over."

Her hands began to tremble.

So they knew.

Her parents knew everything.

And they still chose Rachel.

Tears streamed down her cheeks.

But this time Elena wiped them away.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

Then she began to run.

Her white dress trailed across the pavement as she ran through the dark streets.

Anyone who saw her would think she was a runaway bride.

But Elena wasn't running away from a wedding.

She was running toward the truth.

And somewhere deep inside her shattered heart, something cold and dangerous was beginning to grow.

If the world had already decided she was the villain…

Then she would become the villain they would never forget.
