Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Augmentation Surgery

[Green Goblin Human Enhancer: Enhances the injector's strength and intelligence, but carries a high probability of causing mental issues in the subject.]

[Lizard Serum: Grants the user extraordinary strength and regenerative abilities. Warning: The user will inevitably transform into a Lizard.]

Inside the biological laboratory, Harry scrutinized the agents before him; both were properties of the Osborn Group.

The former was a project Norman Osborn had previously collaborated on with the Military. As everyone knew, Norman Osborn had been obsessed with aircraft design his entire life, especially individual flight vehicles. However, after developing the Green Goblin Glider, they 'amazingly' discovered that the human body could not withstand such exaggerated loads. Consequently, the company developed the Green Goblin Enhancer. Due to its severe and unresolved side effects, the Military eventually decided to cease funding for the project.

The second vial was Dr. Connors' masterpiece. In terms of pure strengthening effects, it might not even match the Green Goblin Enhancer, but the key was that Dr. Connors' serum production process could be applied to other materials, allowing Harry to attempt creating various types of serums.

"Serum production complete." The serum production equipment ejected two new serums; it was time for inspection.

[Genetically Modified Spider Serum: Grants the injector superhuman strength, agility, and reflexes. The user will grow new glands to produce Web Fluid. Warning: The injector will transform into a giant spider within 24 hours!]

[Spider-Man Serum: A serum created using Peter Parker's blood. It grants the user Spider-Man-like abilities but will cause the user to grow four extra arms and potentially transform into a spider-faced monster.]|I{•---» «---•}I|[

Looking at the system prompts, Harry wasn't surprised that the effects of the two serums were Worlds apart.

One must realize that the birth of Spider-Man was actually a very magic process; it wasn't something a single small genetically modified spider from the Osborn Group could fully explain.

[Human Enhancement Technology Collected (4/3)]

[Complete the mission?]

To Harry's surprise, the system even counted the Genetically Modified Spider Serum toward Human Enhancement Technology. It seemed there was a bit of a misunderstanding between Harry and the system regarding the concept of a "human body."

"Complete mission."

[Host has over-completed the mission. You may choose one additional reward.]

[Transcendent Mind: Enhances the host's intelligence and computational capacity.]

[Super Regeneration: Grants the host extremely powerful regenerative abilities.]

[High-Intensity Web Fluid: The host can produce Web Fluid.]

[Sixth Sense: Perceive danger, foreknowledge of events.]

There's even this kind of reward?

Clearly, the rewards for over-completing a mission seemed to be generated based on the circumstances of the completion.

He skipped the first option immediately—it wasn't that Harry didn't want to be smart, but there were too many things in this World that science couldn't explain. Without a protagonist's halo, thinking about it was pointless. Besides, didn't he have the system?

The third option was also skipped without a second thought. He wavered between the second and fourth options, but after weighing them for a moment, Harry chose the fourth.

Rather than waiting to regenerate after being beaten to a pulp, it was more practical to dodge the danger entirely.

[Host has unlocked Sixth Sense.]

[Rewards have been distributed.]

A vast amount of knowledge was instantly branded into Harry's mind. He felt as if the system had opened a new partition in his head. Although there were things he couldn't yet understand, it didn't stop him from storing the system's technology and exporting it to real-World equipment.

[Since the host has over-completed a mission for the first time, an additional reward is granted.]

[The host's first human augmentation will have a 100% success rate. Please use it wisely.]

"It seems I must be the first guinea pig."

Harry rubbed his chin. However, before that, he still had some preparations to make. For performing human augmentation on himself, he needed a reliable assistant.

After thinking it over, it seemed the only person was his old man, Norman Osborn.

One month later.

Inside the secret laboratory at Harry's home.

"Son, are you sure you want to do this?" Norman asked with some concern. "Are you really sure we don't need to run some experiments first?"

After a month of preparation, Harry had everything he needed ready. The augmentation process was fully automated, with the program written by Harry himself. He couldn't guarantee the program would run 100% correctly, but since the system said it would be 100% successful, he shouldn't have to worry too much.

"Don't worry, Father. I'm absolutely certain," Harry said as he undressed and lay down on the operating table. "Besides, you should know what this technology represents; many eyes are watching."

Until he developed his own power base, Harry didn't dare lay all his technology out on the table.

"Very well. You are my pride, and your mother would be proud of you too, Harry."

"Hey, Father, can we not say things like that right now? It doesn't sound very lucky."

Harry's banter lightened the atmosphere a bit, and the father and son began operating the instruments.

"Computer, initiate 'spartan program'," the two of them shouted simultaneously.

"Command confirmed. Authorizers: Harry Osborn, Norman Osborn. Related experimental records will be cleared in three days; please handle them in a timely manner."

Lying on the medical bed, the mechanical arms closing in felt like the hands of a demon, making Harry's heart race.

Having lived two lives, although he had come to this extraordinary World, he was still nothing more than a millionaire so far. To his shame, before awakening the system, he had always been afraid.

Afraid of Norman Osborn becoming the Green Goblin, afraid of Dr. Connors the Lizard coming to his door to turn him into a Lizard, afraid of Doctor Octopus breaking into his house to steal things, afraid of Electro, and even afraid of Kingpin.

After all, this was a World centered around superheroes.

But starting from today—no, it had already begun—he, Harry Osborn, would become the protagonist.

"Bone enhancement surgery initiated. Reinforcement materials: Vibranium, Carbonized Ceramics."

In the original surgery, the only material for bone reinforcement was Carbonized Ceramics, but this World had a better material—Vibranium. Aside from its superior performance, biological rejection of this metal was minimal, almost non-existent, which could effectively avoid the white blood cell necrosis that the augmentation surgery might cause.

In the month before the surgery, Harry had mainly been preparing this stuff. Relying on some memories, Harry instructed Norman to go to Africa and procure these high-performance metals at a high price. Fortunately, the required amount wasn't large, and Norman obtained them easily.

"Bone enhancement surgery complete. Starting nerve fiber modification. Reinforcement material: Superconducting Fibers."

"Nerve fiber modification complete. Starting gland modification and enhancement. Reinforcement material: Artificial Glands."

"Gland modification and enhancement complete. Starting modification of the suboccipital capillary reflux path."

"Modification complete, beginning..."

The augmentation of Spartan Warriors was bloody and comprehensive. A special anesthetic was used during this process, one that would not let Harry fall completely asleep.

In this semi-chaotic state, Harry felt as if his body were being cut open piece by piece and then reassembled.

Finally, he attained a new life.
