Chapter 1 - mahayagya ka puraskar 1

How!" came out of Seth's mouth, "Alas! The poor creature must be hungry for many days." In his mind came the thought, my work can be done even with water. If this poor mute and helpless creature gets one more roti, then surely it will gain enough strength to reach a settlement.

Seth did not think much and fed that last roti to the dog as well. He himself drank a pot of water, rested a little, and set off on his way!

At dusk, Seth reached Kundanpur. When Seth reached the mansion, Dhanna Seth stood up and welcomed him. Asked, "Tell me Seth! How did you happen to come?"

Seth said, "I am in trouble and have come to sell a Yagya (sacrifice) at your hands."

Meanwhile, Dhanna Seth's wife came, greeted Seth and said, "Seth ji! We are ready to buy the Yagya, but you will have to sell your Mahayagya (great sacrifice)."

"Mahayagya!" Seth said in surprise.

"Yes, the one you performed today," said Dhanna Seth's wife.

Seth was greatly surprised. Mahayagya! And today! He thought they were making fun of him. He said politely, "You talk about today, I have not performed any Yagya for years. My situation was not such."

Dhanna Seth's wife said seriously, "No Seth, today you have performed a great Yagya. Maharaj! If you sell that, we will buy it, otherwise not."

Seth was astonished and bewildered. He was sure that these people did not want to buy the Yagya. That is why such things were being said.

"What are you thinking Seth? Speak, are you willing?" asked Dhanna Seth's wife.

Seth said dejectedly, "Sethani ji, stop joking! Talk business. I haven't performed a Yagya for years, you talk about today."Sethani explained that today, instead of eating on the way, she fed all four chapatis to a hungry dog. If this is not a great sacrifice (Mahayagna), then what is? A sacrifice performed with the desire to earn virtue, by spending wealth, is not a true sacrifice. An action performed selflessly is the real sacrifice, the great sacrifice. Are you ready to sell this?

The Seth felt as if he had fallen from the sky. Feeding the hungry is everyone's duty. What is so special about it like a sacrifice?

"What do you think, Seth ji, do you want to sell this sacrifice or not?" asked the Sethani.

The Seth did not answer. He quietly picked up the bundle and walked out of the mansion. He did not think it appropriate to take payment for a human duty.

Spending the night somehow on the platform of the inn in Kundanpur with an empty stomach, at dawn (7. Sunrise),

walking from there, the next day in the evening the Seth reached his home. The Sethani was waiting with great hopes. Seeing the Seth return empty-handed, she trembled with apprehension. She said, "Why didn't you meet the wealthy Seth?"

The Seth narrated the entire story from beginning to end (8. From beginning to end). Hearing it, all of Sethani's pain vanished somewhere. Her heart was filled with joy. Even in adversity, the Seth did not abandon his religion/duty. Blessed is my husband! Touching the dust of the Seth's feet to her forehead, she said, "Have patience, God will make everything alright."

The darkness of the night was spreading. Sethani got up to light the lamp and came into the courtyard. She tripped over something on the way. She barely saved herself from falling, steadied herself, reached the niche, lit the lamp, and looked down. She saw that a stone had risen up near the threshold, in the middle of which an iron loop was fixed. She had tripped over this loop.

Until evening, the stone had not risen at all. How did this suddenly happen now? The Sethani stood there in astonishment. Then she called the Seth and said, "Look at this... how did this stone rise up here?"

The Seth was also surprised. In the flickering light of the lamp, he carefullyUpon seeing it, he realized it was the lid of some lease. What exactly is this matter? The Seth caught hold of the handle and pulled, the stone lifted, and stairs for going inside emerged.

Carefully, the Seth and Sethani, holding a lamp in hand, descended. After descending a few stairs, so much light appeared in front of them that their eyes were dazzled. The Seth saw that it was a huge cellar and was glittering with jewels.

The mystery of this divine illusion did not come to their understanding. Both stood silent. Just then, an invisible but clear voice was heard saying, "O Seth! By remaining hungry yourself, considering it your duty, you happily fed four chapatis to the dying dog and saved its life; this is the reward for that great sacrifice."

The Seth and Sethani felt fulfilled upon hearing this divine voice. They bowed their heads there on the ground and offered their respects at the feet of God.
